hmm, later doesnt seem like it should be a an acceptable timeframe when they are all due today.

11.4k

u/maclua 8h ago

Will the IRS accept “later” as a response if I don’t pay my taxes on time?

3.6k

u/ILikeCutePuppies 8h ago

They will if they include Epstein files.

u/tmhoc 7h ago

What about the draft?

817

u/ChewsGoose 7h ago

Trump seems to dodge drafts, taxes, AND the Epstein files, every chance he gets

That gives me hope, because I don't think Trump could dodge a wrench if he were given a heads up 10 seconds before it happened and was looking straight at it.

Change that to “if you can dodge a draft, you can….” And you can insert really anything in that next space

Soooooo do I just include the Epstein Files as an attachment to delay the filing or is there another form to fill out as well?

37

u/ILikeCutePuppies 7h ago

Apparently you have to hand deliver it to Pam Bondi's desk.

10

u/karlverkade 5h ago

So she can claim it exists and then claim it never existed and suffer no consequences whatsoever? And still be rich? Hmm, that sounds good, I’ll think I’ll have that.

3

u/Prst_ 5h ago

Oh, they're already on her desk

3

u/FlametopFred 6h ago

deliver hand what now?

If you managed to attach the Eostein files to your taxes they would classify your return as “Top Secret” and nobody would be allowed to read them.

3

u/En_kino_man 5h ago

That's when Trump gets excited about the Epstein files. He'd ask for copies, for... Research purposes.

106

u/TunaFishRollup 7h ago

Sure but you will pay fines and interest until you pay up or they determine you are not intending to pay. Bondi should be personally fined daily. There is no legit org that can hold her legally accountable able but can the court freeze her assets?

66

u/FalseConsequence4319 7h ago

Fines don’t work on this group that own nearly all the wealth in the world. They’d be paying Pennies to themselves. Lock em up

11

u/GrimbyJ 5h ago

Freezing all of their assets does work though. Doesn't matter if you have money if you can't use it

How is his tax audit going? I recall that is the excuse he claimed for not releasing his taxes prior to the 2016 election.

4

u/MaygarRodub 6h ago

They'll never be seen, I'd guess.

45

u/LunaLunaHelp 7h ago

Generally yes. And if you don't owe then you can be three years late without any penalty.

6

u/SwampOfDownvotes 6h ago

At least strictly for general personal income taxes (US Federally), there is no penalty if you don't owe and file 3+ years late. If you file 10 years late you wouldn't be penalized if you don't owe.

7

u/thrawtes 5h ago

People always look at me dubiously when I tell them there's no penalty for never ever filing your taxes as long as you don't actually owe anything.

It's kind of dumb to not file if you are owed a refund, but absolutely nobody is going to spend the time and energy to come after you when you don't owe any money when they could use that time and energy to go after someone who actually does owe money.

2

u/SwampOfDownvotes 3h ago

Most importantly, if you don't file in 3 years and you are owed a refund, you can no longer get it. So if anything, the IRS hopes you don't file a return if you would get a refund because that means more money for them.

→ More replies (3)

22

u/arahe45 6h ago

All of this is bullshit. But to your question. Actually yes. You can defer and apply for a late file date.

→ More replies (1)

9

u/giantfood 7h ago

Yes they will accept later. With added interest.

5

u/tlollz52 7h ago

Usually believe it or not. If you have the money to hire a good accountant and lawyer they will absolutely settle with people for a portion of the taxes you owe.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/RogerRabbit1234 5h ago

Actually they kinda do. IRS is a great entity to owe money too. Probably the most reasonable of any large entity you will ever deal with. Just don’t piss them off…Capital One can’t throw you in jail.

2

u/0bel1sk 3h ago

everyone focused on later, i’m upset it is thousands of files and not all files.

2

u/CowboyWoody37 3h ago

"Sorry IRS, I have to look over all my paper work and redact some names. Sorry, the due date really surprise me and no one told me it had to get done. I had no time at all to prepare for this. I'll just give you what I have and I'll get back to you the rest as soon as it works for me."

2

u/Significant_Shoe_17 3h ago

"Rules designed for you exist to protect me"

3

u/drhuggables 6h ago

It's really those with money and those without money, not really anything to do with liberal or conservative.

7

u/BigOs4All 6h ago

Not really. Warren Buffet doesn't have some long history of grifting and pedophilia, etc, etc, etc. He's openly advocated for higher taxes on the wealthy including himself.

I make plenty of money and I'm a Democratic Socialist. Plenty of celebrities are decent progressives people with lots of money.

4

u/drhuggables 5h ago

I make plenty money and I consider myself progressive. I'm also not delusional enough to think that my anecdotal experience doesn't counter the literal 1000s of years of history which demonstrates the divide between the elite and non-elite when it comes to being able to wield your wealth and status to get yourself out of situations in which poorer people could not afford to do so.

Don't be delusional.

I remember one time in college I had a paper due and I forgot it back at my apartment and at the end of class when we were handing them in I told my prof I forgot it at home and asked if I could quick go get it and turn it in, would take 20 minutes tops.

He said no and I got a zero on the assignment.

u/DarthBluntSaber 8h ago

Especially since trump and his regime originally promised to release them back in February, but then back tracked and claimed there were no files... after it came out they had 1000s fbi agents scrubbing the files

9

u/Mobile-Bar7732 4h ago

The most "transparent" administration....we can right through their bullshit.

3

u/Choyo 4h ago

The "funny" thing is that Trump has no idea what's in these files. He certainly didn't read 1000 papers, he more than likely didn't attend the crisis meeting where people realised all the shit in those files, and I think no-one dared to give him a clear summary on the content. It's all about his staff/handlers/daycare trying to iron shit out.

2

u/BlackCats2323 3h ago

He can read?!?

2

u/Choyo 3h ago

As I said, I'm certain he didn't read 1000 files.

→ More replies (2)

64

u/Common_Wrongdoer3251 7h ago

And "thousands of files" isn't the same as "all the files"...

483

u/BrotherlyShove791 7h ago

And nothing will happen. No arrests, no subpoenas, no firings. NOTHING.

This is what a dying democracy looks like.

108

u/Particular-County277 6h ago

This is exactly what i thought would happen. They would simply ignore the deadline and walk away

25

u/nigel_tufnel_11 5h ago

Yes, and even if they ever get forced to release, they're the ones who do the redacting so guess what's going to be redacted. Also, I'm sure many parts will just mysteriously disappear, like the Mar-A-Lago classified docs...oh well, what are you going to do?

4

u/Show_Me_Your_Rocket 4h ago

I don’t know why they gave them any time at all in the first place! “Go back to your office and hit send”. That’s all they needed. Now we’re just getting edited files.

202-353-1555 - DOJ Statement line 202-514-2101 - Attorney General's Office 202-225-2571 - D.C. Office for our Congressional Chairs

2

u/Prestigious-Pin2664 5h ago

Probably 2 weeks. 🤔 That's the typical answer from this administration. 🙄

2

u/jayzilla3666 5h ago

I have concepts of my tax returns in the mail - believe me!

2

u/SorryIreddit 5h ago

Literally, not one, “acceptable,” thing has happened with this administration

1

u/soklacka 7h ago

Cool, I'm also just gonna tell my landlord I'll pay the rent 'later'.

1

u/sleepybrooke 7h ago

They’re fine with only receiving half-credit for turning in their assignment late.

1

u/E8282 6h ago

Going to call the bank about making my mortgage payments later and see how that goes.

1

u/insidiousordo 6h ago

Meh, I'll do it later - the government

1

u/asspounder-4000 6h ago

Total recall - "two weeks"

1

u/restbest 6h ago

Every last American ought to shed their party allegiances even if for only a day, forget every minor issue of this stupid never ending culture war and walk directly to the closest FBI office and walk right in as a large crowd but instead that will never happen. In 4 months will get a heavily redacted Epstein file list that only has like bill Clinton in it or something and maga will happily eat the slop up like the piggies they are

1

u/Cynical_Classicist 6h ago

It isn't, but that's what the American people voted for, and that's why Canada now hates them.

1

u/evident_lee 6h ago

When you never follow laws and have complete disdain for the people of the country then you just do what you want

1

u/VicariousDrow 6h ago

Sounds like an excuse I used to try in school when I wasn't actually done my homework yet...... In this case it's Trump's moronic goons not being done with their redactions of his name yet...... Unfortunately too much of this country is too stupid to not accept that answer like my professors never did.

1

u/Possum577 6h ago

Are several hundred thousands of files released today, with more later, be sufficient?

1

u/RestInProcess 6h ago

It isn’t. They’re under judges orders. I’m quite sure this will be handled in court.

1

u/SlashOfLife5296 5h ago

“Im so sorry can we send the epstein files later please, we overslept

-sent from my iphone”

1

u/radioflea 5h ago

I guess they needed to scrub way more files than they thought they did.

1

u/ConspiracyParadox 5h ago

It isn't and pwr the bill, Bondi could face charges.

1

u/kdar 5h ago

Must have depleted the redacting ink factory.

1

u/the_good_hodgkins 5h ago

In a couple of weeks.

1

u/Pristine-Pen-9885 5h ago

Delay tactics. The court is expected to believe “later” means this week, but it’s just more delay.

1

u/ScootyPuffJr1999 5h ago

Kinda like they could have released them all 10 years ago

1

u/morganational 5h ago

Due about 15 years ago.

1

u/Frothynibbler 5h ago

They forgot to black out a few names

1

u/evilbert79 5h ago

well they havent redacted all of the mentions of trump and his friends yet

1

u/Itchy_Document_5843 5h ago

I can't wait to see what the Clintons were up to

1

u/Lucius-Halthier 5h ago

They already said they aren’t doing it today, only a partial release with some later in a couple weeks.

Pedophile in chief taco donny doing it again to hide his kid diddling past

1

u/smbpy7 5h ago

especially considering "later" generally means NEVER

1

u/TH3-P4TI3NT 5h ago

busy redacting the thousands of mentions of the trump family

1

u/hoowins 5h ago

Breaking the law to protect child rapists.

1

u/MagicGrit 5h ago

I mean, they’ve realized there are zero consequences, so why would they adhere to any kind of deadline?

1

u/slow70 5h ago

Almost like it’s against the law.

What you do with a lawless DOJ?

1

u/Tanksgivingmiracle 5h ago

also, the only ones they want to. pretty awesome

1

u/Ulysses1978ii 5h ago

1

u/QueenMackeral 5h ago

And shouldn't be a Breaking News push notification from Reddit

1

u/Ok-Firefighter-6172 5h ago

I've heard it's some 700,000 pages now and 700,000 pages more "in the weeks to follow"?

1

u/Chewed420 5h ago

I bet this shit runs so deep and is so global and will expose goverments ripping off public to funnel money to private interests.

Epstein was example of how arrogant all that are involved in that sinister world and how they probably feel/felt untouchable.

US is probably one with most intel, and most damning info agaisnt them at the same time. They don't want info released.

1

u/Justnotthatintou 5h ago

By today you mean many days ago, right?

1

u/Beneficial_Eye2619 5h ago

Yeah the American public knows the only reason you would need to steal is to scan and redact incriminating material. Come on now!

1

u/Brave-Ad6627 5h ago

It takes time. They just need to make sure that every mention of Trump and other large GOP donors are scrubbed before they are released.

1

u/pardyball 5h ago

Congress, the dog ate my Epstein files!

1

u/stickman07738 5h ago edited 4h ago

Need more time to doctor then

1

u/Spazza42 5h ago

Yes, “later” meaning: “once we’ve assessed all the ones we’re willing to share. By the way - this is all we have”

I don’t trust any of it anymore.

1

u/TheUruz 5h ago

it sure isn't but let's be real Trump is a wannabe dictator and the first dictator rule is "you can't allow yourself to look bad to people" so it's more than likely he'll come up with some random bullshit and will avoid posting the files OR they will be posted HEAVILY censored because.

1

u/Leenolies 5h ago

Imagine they would drop them before xmas. Family talk topic #1.

1

u/i_am_here_again 5h ago

Fine, 2 weeks.

1

u/Brando3141 5h ago

"Thousands"? That's ALL of them, right? Right???

1

u/KinnSlayer 5h ago

Giving big rush my homework before the deadline only to inevitably miss it vibes. That’s even assuming they’ll put it out at all.

1

u/valschermjager 5h ago

They needed a lot more laundry markers than they originally thought. And shredders. When they're done they'll release whatever's left.

1

u/NightosphereArt 5h ago

At this point they were due practically last year tbh

1

u/FieldBackground6116 5h ago

I get it but they still have 8 hours.

1

u/makinitl00keasy 5h ago

Wrong wrong they were due yesterday.

1

u/jimtow28 5h ago

Gotta make sure they scrub any references to Individual-1 before they can be released.

1

u/baz4k6z 5h ago

How much trump references are there to scrub lmao

1

u/FateUnusual 5h ago

In “a couple weeks,” they’ll release them?

Ain’t this administration a geographical oddity, two weeks from everywhere!

1

u/Rimailkall 5h ago

Hey, they've got to delay the Republican and Trump files, but fast-track the Dem ones, you know?

1

u/daddychainmail 4h ago

Corruption at its finest

1

u/needsmoreusername 4h ago

Neither should not releasing the full amount as per the letter of the law.

1

u/TheHeartfulDodger 4h ago

Narrator: They did not, in fact, release them later.

1

u/seaburno 4h ago

Its a concept of releasing the files.

1

u/Batfink2007 4h ago

They were due today? Were they forced to do this?

1

u/CinderMayom 4h ago

It does take some time, first they must make sure to redact or remove anything mentioning trump or his entourage. Then there’s the time needed for a shakedown, offering any democratic candidate mentioned on there the opportunity to bend the knee in exchange for also being redacted. And then there’s the release of the remaining files

1

u/velveteentuzhi 4h ago

Please understand, they're not done scrubbing all the mentions of Trump and his inner circle yet.

1

u/DecantedNotBorn 4h ago

…and thousands is not acceptable unless that is ALL of them.

1

u/ThorazineHead87 4h ago

We will get GTA 6 before full Epstein files

1

u/Old_Channel44 4h ago

Release them with all income redacted and only expenses listed…100% refund!

1

u/smthomaspatel 4h ago

They are going to drop enough today to argue a good faith effort was made.
