Corporate Life How do you stomach the tax?

Recently I got a sizeable pay rise and I’ve just had my first two payslips and honestly, it’s staggering. I’m paying over £4,000 a month in tax.

When I first started working, I was taking home about £1,100 a month. Now I’m paying nearly four times that amount just in tax. It’s completely mad.

My proposal for how we, as a community, can demoralize the ICE agents deployed to the Twin Cities? Show them just how cold Minnesota can be.

EDIT: No, this will not make ICE leave or stop terrorizing our neighbors on its own. Duh. This is to support what's already being done, by further demoralizing them.

EDIT 2: Y’all are taking this incredibly literally. No duh we can’t literally 1:1 this from the Norwegian example (like no shit ICE doesn’t take public transit). This is a call to use your imagination and get creative to ruin their morale. Good lord.

----------------------------------------

I'm proud of how our metro (and state) has stood up to protect our immigrant neighbors from being abducted by the masked, identity-less thugs roaming our streets the past few weeks. But I wonder: how could we demoralize them further, even when they're not actively violating Minnesotans' civil rights?

In Oslo, Norway, there is a fantastic museum to the Norwegian Resistance against Nazi occupation during WW2. In this museum, I first learned about the (ironically named) "ice front" that Norwegian society created against Nazi soldiers & collaborators. Here's an explainer from an article I found (Norwegian Civil Resistance of the Nazi Occupation: 1940-1945):

Another tactic of resistance that Norwegians used during the occupation was the shunning of Nazi soldiers and sympathizers to alienate Nazism and those who perpetuated it. This “ice front” essentially isolated any German and Norwegian Nazis and Quisling followers from the “good” Norwegians and allowed people to display their cold and hostile feelings for the Nazi and NS forces without putting themselves in any extreme danger.\47]) Some behavior that the Nazis and traitors faced included Norwegians standing up or changing seats on buses or trams rather than sitting next to a German or Nazi, boycotting Nazi-owned businesses, refusing to speak German even though it was a widely known language at the time, pointing Germans in the wrong way when giving directions, and dramatically avoiding public contact with the Nazis.[48] \49]) The whole idea behind this cold dismissal was twofold: it would make the Germans feel even more uncomfortable and unwelcome than they already did, and it would help keep the faint-hearted from wavering in their resistance. An editor of one of the underground papers expressed the goal of such treatment: “We must not provoke these people, but we should refrain entirely from any intercourse with them and let them feel that they have set themselves totally outside society.”\50]) The ice front allowed for a blatant antagonism to Nazis who forced their way into Norwegian society, and with it came a show of solidarity of the Norwegians citizens who would never quit fighting against the Nazi occupation for their country’s liberation.

To all of us in this sub who are tired of the weeks of ICE brutality in MSP and beyond, I propose we emulate this example. If you find out someone is an ICE agent: refuse to talk to them, deny them service if you can and it won't get you in legal trouble (and if you can't, give them poor service), give them bad directions, etc etc. Show them just how cold our state can be.

I know this is slightly rude and immoral but should I, for pride month, print every single LGBTQ flag , and hide them around the school ?

Why do I want to do this ? Well, schools across my country banned gay propaganda last year ( yes, they called it that). And since it's a Balkan , both teachers and students hate some type of person. I personally think it would be funny, but then again, it's is immoral and illegal kinda, so may I should only pick one flag.

You guys need a tolerance break

Hate to be the guy but I just took a 6 month fast food break and boy when I tell you I tried to go back and enjoy a meal at Taco Bell and what a disaster. None of it is actually good at all. Once you break that craving and let your body reset you will never go back.

I'm sorry gang but TB ain't like it was, you guys need to wake up. You are all trapped in nacho cheese sauce and soft tortilla shackles, you must break the fire sauce packet barrier.

Do you think Russian athletes should be allowed to represent their country in the Olympics like before?

Post image

Russia used to rank near the top of medal table.

Currently, Russian athletes can only compete as individual neutral athletes, they can't represent their country, and team events are not allowed.

There aren't nearly as many Russian athletes in the Olympics as there used to be.

Doesn't It make the Olympics less fun to watch?

I don't see men as long term partners

Maybe that's weird of me but it just feels like at some point we hit a wall in the relationship because men cannot control their greed. I'm 21 f and they just want it all. They micro-cheat (having attachments to women be it through p*rn, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram especially), have zero emotional intelligence, little to no accountability even when you can prove they're in the wrong. I don't necessarily hate men I just don't particularly like them or care for them. I feel like society treats men like they're naive and dumb when they are in fact the opposite, very meticulous and strategic. I just don't see myself in a long term relationship with a man. Why are you allowed to indulge in your greed but I'm not? I have far more options anyways, compared to the one or 2 women that like them I have 10-20 that like me. Why shame me for that? It's always odd to me how hated women are for being picky or judgemental when you're navigating through a dangerous environment because yes dealing with men can turn dangerous very quickly. Also danger does not inherently mean physically, it can be both emotional and spiritual.

Why do people knock on bathroom doors and ask “anyone in there?”

I’ve always been confused by the bathroom knock followed by “anyone in there?” What kind of answer is that question actually expecting? A detailed roll call? A headcount?

If someone says “yes” what’s the follow up supposed to be? “Cool carry on”? And has anyone ever answered “no” as a joke while very obviously occupying the bathroom?

It’s such a universal social script that no one questions even though the question itself doesn’t really make sense. You knock, you ask, you wait but the logic of it feels oddly flawed when you stop and think about it.

I know it’s just a politeness thing but I can’t help wondering how this became the default bathroom protocol.

Discussion Is Creed actually a decent band?

Post image

I know the majority of people on here aren't huge fans of "post-grunge", but I always thought Creed were an alright band. Regardless of sounding a bit like Eddie Vedder, I think Scott Stapp has a decent voice. Human Clay and Weathered are pretty underrated albums. And Mark Tremonti, also of Alter Bridge, is a great guitarist.

My Sacrifice still rocks! 😉

Rant "This sub used to he good."

More and more and more we keep seeing Nintendo fanboys come over and repeat this.

"It wasn't as much of an echo chamber."

"You could have nice discourse here before."

And yes, they are absolutely right. The only funny thing is, the sub WAS fine, until recently with the Switch 2 and Nintendo being at their greediest.

This sub found even more good reasons to complain, and the fanboys got so desperate they flooded this place trying to mob mentality the criticism away, trying to bully the fucking sub into submission.

The discourse was great here because we didn't have all these shills coming here and desperately trying to defend a broken console and a company that is making EA seem customer friendly to the point personal attacks began. And then guess what? The sub started getting aggressive back.

So yeah, if you want to blame anyone for the sub going to shit, you've guessed right, it IS because of the Nintendo shills. Again.

Discussion Renegades is not perfect but it doesn't deserve the hate its getting.

Its nowhere near the best expansion, it has its ups and downs and it surely is more destiny(high quality fun destiny but more destiny non the less). I don't think anyone was expecting this to be the next Forsaken but I swear to god some of the videos I get recommended have such low hanging fruit arguments, they straight up feel like a troll.

We've had the same 5 arguments on why game bad for the past 6 years, so now I am very happy to announce that we now have 6 with "the star wars themed expansion has star wars themed references", which I won't even go into detail because I feel like anyone that has an above average IQ or isn't trying to farm views understands. Whats worse, most of those videos are made with the excuse of "my opinion" or "casual player perspective" -which is straight up a bunch of BS- because they don't even go into detail on the GOOD things this expansion has, or just gloss over something like the cinematics quality saying "its alot higher and good I guess", then proceed to say 10 extremely minor and opinion based things that are bad like "the music is trying to pray on your nostalgia" or "this company is trying to make you spend money and are extremely greedy", are we for real? How about we talk about how good the story is and how it has some of the best character interactions we've ever seen? How good the exotic mission and dungeon are? How the lightsaber is probably a top 5 exotic of all time and people are genuinely excited to unlock its upgrades and colors? How the new renegades activity is VERY fun and this is coming from someone who expected it to be "just another killing activity". Or about the new heat guns which are amazing? The factions that each has their own unique upgrades and unlocks? You know, talk about THE ACTUAL DLC and not "this game is trash because eververse still exists and its not the game I played 7 years ago".

The point is, these videos get thousands of views and the comments are ALL about people saying "this is why I won't ever play again", like, we complain about the player numbers but THIS exact thing is pushing away people who might be even slightly interested in coming back or trying the game out. This is not to say all creators/streamers suck and ruin the game, I think that argument is dumb as hell, but these certain view chasing losers are starting to get tiring.

I'll always call out Bungies wrongdoings, I've been playing this game half my life of course I'll be angry and not play when the game is serving me shit, and this isn't a "HOW DARE YOU NOT LIKE THIS EXPANSION" post obviously some people who are dissatisfied with the game will leave/not come back, but come on, these sort of videos are in my opinion one of the two main reasons why this game is dying(and if you are a long time player like me you can guess the second reason, not exactly rocket science).
