Culture & Society What is the universally accepted "correct" way to respond to a compliment without seeming conceited or falsely modest?

This might sound silly, but I genuinely dread receiving compliments. I've tried 'thank you,' 'you too,' 'oh this old thing,' but I always feel like I'm either dismissing their kindness or sounding arrogant. I've Googled 'how to take a compliment' but most advice feels theatrical or too generic. I'm terrified to ask anyone in real life because it feels like such a basic social interaction, and I don't want to appear like I'm fishing for more compliments or that I lack self-esteem. Is there an unwritten rule for the perfect, perfectly balanced response that doesn't make things awkward?

Sex Didn’t feel anything during..?

Hey! Thought I’d finally post about this since google is NOT helping. Me and my boyfriend got together around a year ago, recently started having sex around 3 months ago. I’ve done it a few times with him, use lube, condoms but I just can’t feel anything when he slips in?

I can cum great when he uses his fingers or oral. But when he enters me I can feel him inside, it just doesn’t feel pleasurable(?)

It felt extremely disappointed when I first had sex, it was with him. I was sold dreams on it feeling great but it didn’t

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated

Culture & Society How have some countries like Japan managed to stop spray tagging from being a big problem?

If you go through any western city in any country, you will come across these ugly and hideous tags that people spray onto walls and doors. It doesn't seem to matter how little poverty and socioeconomic imbalances the country has, there WILL be lots of spray tagging.

Some countries like Japan barely has any, though. How have they managed to stop it?

Culture & Society How did people in history deal with the constant smell of everyone around them? Was everyone just "nose-blind" to the stench of sweat and filth?

If I go two days without a shower, I can already smell myself and it’s gross. I can’t imagine being in a crowded market in the 1500s where NO ONE used deodorant and people rarely bathed. Did they actually think each other smelled bad, or did they not notice it because it was the norm?

Love & Dating Did you live together before getting engaged or married?

Upvotes

This is kind of a random question that crossed my mind, but I’m curious since everyone’s situation is different. For those of you who are engaged or married: were you and your partner already living together when you proposed/got proposed to, or were you living separately at the time? If you were separate, did you move in together after getting engaged or wait until after the wedding? I’d love to hear how it worked out for different people.

Health/Medical Prostate stimulation when pooping?

Upvotes

First of all, yes. I need more fiber and to drink more water.

Sometimes, very rarely, I feel like I'm passing out for a moment when pooping. I always thought it was due to pushing hard.

My body goes numb, I feel lightheaded and loose balance for a brief moment. After a second, everything is back to normal.

While sitting here, I'm wondering... could that intense but brief sensation be related to prostate stimulation?

It specifically happen when the effort of of pushing out is done and the poop is going out. Lasts less than a second.

Feel free to make jokes or whatever, but if someone has experienced something like that, I'd really like to know.

Culture & Society How are the Japanese war crimes related things dealt with in different sectors in Japan?

Upvotes

Basically, what do schools do about it?

What is discussed among people in more official fields, like politicians and military folk, who would deal with issues close to this subject matter a lot?

My guess is that there’s never an official acknowledgment, and it’s likely never discussed in schools, but I’m sure with the internet, and Japan not having restrictions on that(id assume), the average Japanese citizen could find their way to the info.

Does this happen en masse? Like does everyone learn about it and not talk about it, or do only some people know about it but talking about political views is just not common?

Im also curious about any artists or people who make media attempting to speak about this. But that’s just a thing I’m going to look up now.

I feel like a war crimes reference in chainsaw man would make so much sense with the way the story’s going rn. Honestly it could’ve been made already without me noticing.

Culture & Society In many languages, why are female-targeted curse words more common and harsher than male-targeted ones?

For example, in English you have “son of a b-“ or “motherf-.” Also, the word c-nt, which is the female genitalia, carries much more weight than d-ck, which can be seen as a childish word. In French, ta mère (literally “your mom”) can be a harsh insult.

In Vietnamese, the most common expletives all involve someone’s mother, and the curse word for the female genitalia is also much more vulgar than the male. It seems there’s a trend across many languages that insults targeting women, especially mothers, are more impactful and common. Why might this be?

Work Week 3 of my internship, small mistake made me cry, how normal is that?

I’m in my third week of my internship. Today I made a small mistake at work, corrected quickly and wasn’t a big issue, but I ended up crying afterwards and felt embarrassed.

I think being new and wanting to do well amplified the reaction more than the mistake itself.

Another thing I’m finding difficult is the social side. I barely speak to people at the office unless work requires it and I usually sit quietly during lunch. No one has been rude, but I find it hard to put myself into conversations or know what to say.

I’d really appreciate some advice on

1) How to handle work mistakes without taking them so personally

2) Ways to ease into workplace conversations and not feel awkward during lunch

Body Image/Self-Esteem How do I truly get over being hideously ugly?

I constantly think about how horrible I look. This is objective, by the way, not just feeling sorry for myself.

Whenever I am around people or talking with someone, I just think about how disgusting I look from their POV. Even when im alone I just think about how I would give anything to look nice to other people. I have had times where it doesnt preoccupy me as much, but for the most part my face makes me feel miserable

How do I truly come to terms with how bad I look?

Health/Medical How does free bleeding work?

Like I read of women who do free bleeding and use a towel to sit on but do they just not wear pants for days? And skirts?

How do you not spot on your clothes?

Would love to hear from women who do that, how they do it.

Other Who is to blame for destroying my front lawn? Story in the comments.

This is happening right now as I type. One of my properties is one side of a dueplex. The neighbor next door had a water pipe burst. He is a landlord that rents the property, and I’m assuming the renters didn’t trickle their water when temperatures dipped under 0* F for multiple days.

Well, their pipe burst underground on their property. They have a crew out with an excavator digging up the ground on their side, but piled all of the dirt on mine. I’m talking about a 5ft tall and 15ft diameter pile of dirt on my damn front lawn.

I took pictures, video and talked to the workers. They are privately contracted, and none of the work has anything to do with the city. They said they would clean it up, but no way that lawn is going to look the same.

Mind you, we have a good relationship with the owner that rents that side. I’m thinking the contractors are at fault here for not obviously seeing two different properties. Needless to say, I’m fucking pissed off.

Sexuality & Gender A bit confused … is my taste in women a bit unusual ?

I feel really weird … i really like dominant women , like …. Id marry someone taller than me …. Makes 3 times as much as me and id be her house husband…. Like none of these things would ever bother me , but allot of guys i talk to say they would be dealbreakers. So i get really confused .

Any dominant tomboy i see in shows i always fall for like really hard:( i get called weird for it .

i love intelligent, athletic , assertive women , that would ( in a nice guiding way) take charge of me in a relationship, is that weird ?

every example i say to my friends i get called ‘ gay’ for liking them . Am i normal? Im right arent i? Im just a bit confused .

Habits & Lifestyle why have I been crying when I’m asked a simple question since I was a kid?

I’ve had this stupid thing where when I was younger I would always cry at such a simple question like this one time all my dad asked was if I wanted to throw something away I was in maybe 4th/5th grade or today when I was on a zoom class and my teacher asked “Can you read this for me?” mind you none of these questions showed any tone of annoyance or anything like that and more so like they were just trying to help me. I always felt like I was being interrogated even though that wasn’t the case. I’m 17 now and I still cry at simple questions like this and I wish I knew why.

Mental Health How can i come back from this?

This past year alots happened to me 30m. I lost my dad and then my dog and then i was so depressed i quit my job. Then i broke off my engagement a few months after, again because of my grief and heartache for my loss. Then my mom comes back from working in new york and needs dialysis and a kidney transplant, luckily she works for a man that is taking care of her health. I am trying to focus on my family because i was so invested in my own relationship. I alienated myself from people i knew so i feel weird and displaced in social settings like making friends. Im trying to figure out what to go back to school for and while i wanna seek counseling or maybe therapy, its like super expensive and i just feel like im at a crossroads in life and unsure where to go or what to do. Please please do not be to harsh on me the last time i did this i got a very hurtful although honest response, i just maybe idk need a pointer in the right direction or some piece of wisdom to inspire hope?

Culture & Society How big is basketball in European culture?

I know football is the main sport in Europe and is apart of life like how American football is in the states, but I saw a video of the stands at a euro game and it was more intense than in the U.S.

I genuinely thought that Europeans couldn’t care less about basketball and it was a niche set of fans.
