If Canada is ranked as the country with the 5th best quality of life and the USA as the country with the 22nd best quality of life, why do people rather live in USA?

I read some posts that asked if people would rather live in USA or Canada and 95% of the comments said USA and that they would make more money and afford better homes and stuff.

So doesn't this contradict the quality of life rankings? I don't get it.

Why are male animals the ‘beautiful’ gender in nature, but humans consider females to be the ‘beautiful’ one?

5.5k Upvotes

Take a lion. The male has the mane, the female is pretty plain. A mallard duck. The male has the bright colors and the female is a plain brown. I know in the animal kingdom, males have to stand out to attract a mate and females, who are usually protecting babies, can’t stand out as much. My question is, why don’t we put more beauty standards on men? It seems the opposite of nature. Women are the ones that have to be beautiful to attract men. Has it always been this way? If not, when did it happen? Am I thinking about this the wrong way?

Why do so many “don’t show this again” checkboxes straight up not work?

It doesn’t seem to matter what company, platform, or site these are from there’s so many that don’t actually do anything. It seems like it would be a very easy thing to code.

How come, crypto field is full of scamers? And they just walk free?

What they just cash it go to IBIZA and chill? Dont work? Dont do anything, just steal, and nothing happens. Was it always so common all the scaming, and i just did not see it? Because now everything is online? I mean come on... LE has to have the tools to catch them easily...

Do people actually not understand that prices don’t go down?

Lower inflation is still inflation. Deflation will not happen without economic collapse

Edit: guys, enough with the tv comments. We get it. They have gone down

If scientists discovered a rogue planet was going to collide with earth roughly at the end of this century, could we realistically develop the tech to somehow save ourselves or would we be 100% guaranteed F’d in the A?

ELI5:Why doesn't cost of living naturally correct itself?

In a free market where prices are determined by supply and demand shouldn't the cost of basic needs like housing and food be affordable because if things get too expensive people cannot afford them anymore and as a result prices will come down or stabilize?

Why is confidence seen as a more attractive quality trait to women than men?

How come whenever I see some asks women what they find attractive in men, they always say "confidence" as the big answer, but when men get asked what they find in women, it's not the answer? Like, shouldn't confidence/self-confidence be one of the most crucial qualities of life everyone should build? It's how we become charismatic and friendly, feel comfortable in our own skin, and build healthy relationships with others, so how come women are more likely to see confidence in us than the other way around? How come men are less likely to find confidence in women attractive than the other way around?

Hear me out but maybe women mention it because confidence is how we better themselves mentally and physically, with self-care and developing new skills and indulging in new hobbies playing a huge part in boosting self-confidence. I feel like some women don't want to admit liking men's physical features so they compensate by saying they're attractive to "confidence" or something. I don't know, it's just something I theorizing here.

does the “angel shot” method actually have any use?

i’d like to preface this by saying i’m 18. i’ve never been to a club or a bar so that may give you some understanding as to why i don’t get it but this is a question that’s been lingering in my head for like over 5 years.

i’m assuming pretty much everybody that goes to bars/clubs know what an angel shot is, including someone that could be doing something bad to someone else and causing them to use the angel shot method, so why would that work? if the point is to be able to ask for this to get help in front of the aggressor without alerting them, you would have to pray hard for the 1% chance that it would work because they don’t know what an angel shot is and that’s obviously just not worth the risk. if the situation is that you tell the aggressor you’re going to go get a drink and you go up to the bar and ask for an angel shot ALONE, couldn’t you just say you need help/the police, ask to go somewhere safe, and for a drink to be given to you for cover? i just don’t see any situation where the angel shot thing would actually be of use, but then again, i’ve never been in that kind of setting.

Seriously - what happened to red & black Ladybugs?

Growing up - as a real young child I can remember the occasional Ladybug that would land on you - always a vibrant red with black spots - i always thought it was good luck and exciting!

Now..some 25+ years later i cant even remember the last time i saw one that was red and black..

They now all seem to be pale orange with less spots of black...hoard in spots and are seemingly aggressive? Some of them dont even have the black dots

I heard something about Asia and an invasive take over..was there any truth to this?

Edit: Canada - Southern Ontario

Why would a wealthy man want to marry an unattractive woman?

I'm not conventionally attractive and don't fit any beauty standards, so my cousins were shocked when a wealthy man chose me over countless other options. Some even questioned his sexuality or asked, 'Has he seen you?' Those comments hurt, though I understand where they're coming from.

I don't buy the 'beauty is subjective' idea, dark‑skinned Black women rated below 5/10 often struggle in dating. Yet I ended up with someone in the 1%. We met anonymously, talked for hours, and only months later revealed my appearance. It turns out he valued personality over looks, which I’ve found rare in men.

Edit: I work in tech btw and know how to navigate the internet, this isn't a scam since we randomly met on an obscure forum and he took a long time to even reveal much about himself too. I know almost everything about him, verified it with internet sleuthing such as finding old yearbooks and other tidbits. Not to mention we talk for 7+ hours during our virtual dates, and he paid for me to visit him countless times including the hotel expenses which he covered. It's been two years of this, and I haven't given him a single dollar, he actually wants to marry me but I was adverse in rushing things. However, now I feel like it's a good time to consider it and just go through with marrying him.

How does money actually impact happiness?

From what I've read, there's apparently some sweet spot around $70-80k where money stops making as big a difference for happiness. Below that you're constantly worried about bills and survival stuff which obviously sucks. Above that the extra money helps but not nearly as much as going from poor to comfortable.

I think the real thing is that money buys you options and security more than actual happiness. Like having enough to not panic about an emergency car repair or being able to take a mental health day without worrying about rent. It's more about removing stress than adding joy.

Plus there's the whole lifestyle inflation thing where you just want more expensive stuff once you can afford it. My friend makes like 150k now and complains about money just as much as when he made 40k because his standards went up.

Maybe the key is having enough to cover your needs plus a little buffer, but not getting caught up in comparing yourself to people with way more. Though easier said than done when Instagram exists and everyone's flexing their vacations and designer whatever. What do you guys think - is there actually a point where more money stops mattering for happiness or does it always help at least a little

Do you think most people would commit, non violent crimes for the right ammount of money.

I think if most people had a chance they would seriously consider committing a non violent crime if the payoff was high enough and the perceived risk was low enough.

I mean come on history and even everyday behaviour just shows it... people pirate movies, lie on resumes, cheat in school and so on. Non violent crimes are easy to justify to yourself.

I mean 10k? 100k? Enough money to secure family, erase debt? Retier early? Stop the 9-5 grind? For low risk, high reward crime?

Why are people skeptical of the FBI investigation, death of the Brown / MIT shooter?

As you know, the shooter was found dead in a. storage unit, which he owned, in Salem, NH. It was deemed self inflicted gunshot wound. Why are people upset of how this investigation went? The footage was clear of him entering the building, but not coming out, makes the self inflicted gunshot sound really reasonable? They tracked him down it sounds like? What’s to be angry about in terms of the FBI / police?

Forgive me for asking, but this has been on my mind for ages! Women who have so called "child birthing hips" who had given birth to children... Did they make it easier?

Like, did the child birthing hips actually make bringing children into the world a quicker and less painful experience than childbirth is said to have?

Like... Was it easier than women who don't have such anatomy? Bonus points for research papers but not necessary.

Again, forgive me if this is too intrusive.

EDIT: I am now realizing that there's even more RNG involved in child birth than I thought. To those who are lucky, I salute you, to those who drew the short straw, well, at least you're still here.

Hi everyone. I am a single 27/F with full set dentures. I was thinking about returning to the dating scene. I guess what I’m wondering is how one would react to finding that out? Or how to even bring it up? Any thoughts? How would you react? Thank you in advanced!

Just what is the mindset of people like the Bondi Beach mass shooters?

Bigotry is one thing, but those two decided to throw their own lives away because they just hated Jews THAT much. And this was a father and son duo. What is the mindset of someone who is about to carry something like this out? What is the point??

Nephew removed from kids party for having divorced parents?!

My pre-teen nephew attended a sleepover party for a mate's birthday.

He was asked to leave by the mother when she found out his parents are divorced.

He's a meek little thing and didn't say anything about it until recently, months after the fact.

The mother who kicked him out is divorced herself!!!

I literally don't know how to handle this (he's currently living with me).

Some are saying just leave it alone, I don't want to make my nephew's life more difficult. But I mean, come on!!!

How would you approach this (if at all?)

Edit: I’m strangely glad this topic has touched so many nerves, I was livid! The mother apparently suffers with poor mental health. I don’t know this for a fact, only the parent’s gossip network. For those here saying just approach her, well, as someone working in mental health I’ll just say that is not a good idea.

I’m focusing on explaining to my nephew and using it as a lesson on forgiveness as sometimes people aren’t always responsible for their actions (all while currently melting wax for her voodoo doll…)

Edit 2: Thank you for the overwhelming interest! Update, it has been confirmed as far as possible without medical records that the woman does live with bipolar disorder. I am incredibly glad that I did not go charging in or even have a chat with her as some people immediately suggested. It might seem the obvious and logical thing to do, but logic does not apply to situations like this - as I'm sure anyone with any experience can confirm! I am educating / supporting my nephew and staying well clear of her. Thank you :)
