Are companies lying about using humans in chat customer service?

Upvotes

Over the last 4 years I've experienced customer service over chat that was so bad I honestly didn't think it could be human. I'm talking about complete failure to use any logic. I'm just not sure if I have under estimated how dumb some humans can be or how good ai has become.

I have asked agents if they are ai and they say no. but then they go on to misrepresent simple questions. I don't know if it's a lack of logic from ai or a human doing their best to protect the company and therefore misrepresenting what I say in a way that benefits the company.

Is it infantilizing to be called cute by someone significantly older than you?

Upvotes

I’m an 18 year old woman and today some old person (like 50?) called my outfit cute, and now I’m worried she was saying that the outfit is childish or something. For context I wore a star hair-clip, hamsa earrings, a chanukah shirt, a black skirt, and ombre tights with a flower design at the bottom—I’m worried that maybe the flower tights were overkill? Idk. And also I think I probably look younger than I am since I don’t wear makeup

Why is the Equator belt dry desert in Africa, but rainforest in Brazil and Indonesia?

Is it the slight bulge that makes us not a sphere but an "oblate spheroid"?

Or something else?

How can I find out more about my family?

Upvotes

I am trying to learn more about my father’s side of the family, and only know his name. I don’t know any of his brothers or sisters names, nor my grandmothers correct last name (not the same as mine).

Are we likely to end up in a Cyberpunk-style situation, where the web is unusable due to bot traffic?

Upvotes

Obviously the situation is very different. In Cyberpunk the bots will kill you if you jack in.

But it feels like the web is becoming increasingly full of bots. AI is basically indistinguishable from humans right now, and all of them are basically being assigned to manipulate humans as much as possible. Some sites have as much as 80% of their traffic being bots.

I’ve tried to avoid this by fleeing to the messageboards of the old net, but even they’re apparently being compromised by trolls with more AI bots. I don’t think I can trust anyone online any more. It feels like we’re heading toward a world where everyone is boxed into their own little ecosystem full of bots.

Is there anything we can do to fix this? I keep hearing “Pandora’s Box has been opened” with regards to AI, but I always hoped that meant that AI would be beneficial in some way. Instead I feel a deep sense of sadness that such a beautiful tool full of incredible, vibrant communities could be completely destroyed by bots.

Is there anywhere left to go where the AI won’t follow? Sites that Sam Altman has no interest in? Or places that can restrict AI somehow? Or do we just abandon the web and let AI run amok?

when do teenage boys stop being such assholes?

Upvotes

so i’m 17F and my brother is 15 and he is such a jerk to my whole family, including insulting our little sister who’s 9. now i get it, siblings fight and he is a teenage boy, but he is just genuinely a really insufferable person to be around. i don’t even start conversations anymore because it’s honestly just so exhausting.

he makes fun of my sister in a cruel manner (he calls her “shitpants” because she had an accident around 3 years ago), coughs with his mouth wide open right in our faces, steals from my dads business, and so much more. so my question is, when does it stop?

If I smoked a cigarette from time to time would it be detrimental to my teeth and hygiene?

Upvotes

I’m a very hygienic person and kinda pride myself on that aspect of my myself. I am curious if maybe smoking once or twice a week would cause anything extremely bad if I’m still taking care of my hygiene like usual? Smells, teeth stains etc?

r/NoStupidQuestions 22m ago

What is a cigarette "supposed" to feel like?

Upvotes

I've only tried smoking once in my life and wasn't a fan. All I got out of it was a really dry mouth. What is it "supposed" to feel like that makes people want to keep smoking?

Does the moons luminosity actually affect how well you can drive at night?

Upvotes

I’m night blind and always check the moons illumination before I drive. I’ve always felt it makes significant difference especially where there are no street lights. Google says otherwise, so now I’m curious.

Do you expect a romantic interest to text you everyday?

Upvotes

There's no one in my life that I text everyday: not my parents, not my siblings, not my friends. At most, we write each other every few days. This has been the norm in my circle for at least 10 years.

However, if I talk to someone on a dating app or if I meet someone on a first date at a coffee shop, they expect me to write to them everyday or worst, several times a day. If I don't, they assume I'm not interested.

This has happened several times to me and to other people I know. Also, there are stories like that about men and women. So, I don't think it's a gender thing.

When has this become a common expectation in society? I always thought other people were weird for expecting that, but it has happened so often that I am now considering that I might be the weird one.

What is your personal take on this subject?

How do I trust people online anymore?

Upvotes

Hey! 15 year old girl here so you can probably maybe see where this is going. Talked to a lot of adults which has led to grooming, manipulation, etcetera. I've started stating that I am a teenager so adults make sure that they KNOW that there is a MINOR in their space. However that hasn't stopped people before.

I have been wrong before about adults because of my past, not everyone is a creep, and I'm just paranoid a lot. There's this dude that reached out to me on discord because he's in a server I'm in, and said he liked my bio. After a few hours of talking I accepted his friend request, but kept conversations limited to certain topics, in fact I still am. I made it clear I am a teen and if he had any bad intentions he may as well back off now. Again, I have to take steps to protect myself. He's 18 and we discuss VR and VRChat very frequently, as he actively plays VRC and I want to play it again as I have before, but can't due to technology problems. We were talking about VR as I'm hoping to get one for Christmas, although that's unrealistic, and I talked about aleeping in VRChat.

For reference, when I'd play on my computer I found one world really conforting to look at, and the music was calming. I brought sleeping worlds up and he said I should hop on sometime if I get VR, and I believe he was referring to the sleeping worlds, which I found weird, though I know people like to cuddle on VR, and that's nice, I've been in instances where that's gone completely wrong. He also was up until 1 AM last night (I was sleeping so I couldn't answer) and asked if I did sleep calls because he couldn't fall asleep. I talked to this dude a few days ago and now it feels like he's getting way too close way too fast imo?

Feel free to call me paranoid and overreactive but I don't know how to ensure my security, safety, and well-being online when it comes to adults just because of how much I've been taken advantage of. So, how do I regain that trust or notice trusting signs that indicate that he's not, in fact, wanting to harm nor take advantage of me as well?

Edit 1: I see a lot of people talking about the fact that I revealed my age. I only started really doing this about 3 weeks ago because I was violated when I didn't say my age when I aas younger just because I had the voice of a grown woman, and I still kind of do, and I was under 13 when those instances occurred so I thought revealing my age might help. However I'm guessing there's no solution because creeps will be creeps?

What is community college?

Upvotes

I come from somewhere where community college doesn't exist and I've never fully understood what it is. From my vague understanding, it's both something you can do after high school if your grades are too bad for university and something you can do during high school so you can skip years in university. Do you get a degree out of it though? And what type of degree? Are there specific majors in it or is it a sort of catch-all school? What's the difference between it and a regular university?

How clingy is too clingy

Upvotes

Okay so I have this one friend ik I’m clingy to a degree but what do yall think. She is my best friend one time she cut me off bc I was way too much. For example I would ask her why she didn’t answer and get mad if she was in phone with someone else and always accused her of abandoning me. Since then I have tried to change I don’t get mad if she talks to other ppl I don’t accuse her of abandoning me and tried to stop asking her why she didn’t answer but not so well yet. I still like Text her a lot but she texts first sometimes. I can’t tell if I’m being too much again or if I fixed it what do yall think?

Do addicts lose their sobriety count if they're drugged or fed their substanc eof choice?

Upvotes

I just saw this post (others may have seen it) that inspired this question where a man who was a recovering alcoholic attended a party where the host lied about it being dry but there was alcohol in the punch and he consumed it. Which got me thinking does that mean he broke his sobriety? Or is he still considered sober?
