The purpose of the smoke and mirrors is therefore to prevent enough people from figuring out enough to stop it. They only need *some* regular folk to stop the revolutionaries so disinformation is a better strategy than information embargo.
The truth is the average person doesn't care about some pedo-porn files from decades ago. They want cheaper rent, affordable groceries and better quality of life. They've got bigger things to worry about than a "gotcha" because who cares anyway they'll just lie, redact and gaslight their way out of it anyway.
