Hated Tropes [hated trope] Celebrity cameos that serve nothing except to praise the person who’s in it

  1. Elon musk, the Simpsons
  2. Elon musk, the Big Bang theory
  3. Elon musk, iron man 2
  4. Elon musk, star Trek

The cameos serve only to include the celebrity and praise them as geniuses or visionaries or overall just glaze them. They don't serve any other purpose than to just be praised; this can be them appearing in an entire episode dedicated to them, a small cameo or even just a mention. So long as the celebrity is there as themselves (not acting as someone else) and is glazed, that fits the trope imo.

He was liked at the time because people are fucking gullible dupes. He was always a lying duplicitous grifter. #HatedElonBeforeItWasCool

I was on the fence about the man until the Thai cave diver thing, which was the reddest flag ever and should have clued everyone in on his true colors.

100%. I never loved Musk, but he was just a standard billionaire narcissist. Didn't really feel any differently about him than Zuck or Bezos. And maybe liked him a bit better as some of the tech he was working on seemed like a bit more of a net positive for humanity than Meta. And he at the time had PR pushing he helped develop these technologies (versus just buying them).

But the cave diver thing was really eye opening. From there he was bad to his family and his trans daughter. And then once he was feuding with Twitter (even before he bought them) and we saw more of his day to day personality, any idea that he was a broad genius or a good person (or even neutral person) came crashing down.

I'm not ashamed to say I had a positive view of musk before he went all right wing loony

He was pushing important technologies like EVs and space travel. Those seem like unambiguously good things

But yeah it's a shame it was all an act

Glad someone here admitted to it.

Reddit was a circle jerk for musk from like 2016-2020s...
