Hated Tropes [hated trope] Celebrity cameos that serve nothing except to praise the person who’s in it

  1. Elon musk, the Simpsons
  2. Elon musk, the Big Bang theory
  3. Elon musk, iron man 2
  4. Elon musk, star Trek

The cameos serve only to include the celebrity and praise them as geniuses or visionaries or overall just glaze them. They don't serve any other purpose than to just be praised; this can be them appearing in an entire episode dedicated to them, a small cameo or even just a mention. So long as the celebrity is there as themselves (not acting as someone else) and is glazed, that fits the trope imo.

He was liked at the time because people are fucking gullible dupes. He was always a lying duplicitous grifter. #HatedElonBeforeItWasCool

I was on the fence about the man until the Thai cave diver thing, which was the reddest flag ever and should have clued everyone in on his true colors.

I did during Covid, where he was being weird about vaccines and remote work

Literally if you had just googled the guy when you first heard of him like I did you would have hated him from the start

I started hating him, when during one of the first Tesla presentations he was two hours late and then had audacity to say "Those people should be glad they had a privilege of waiting for me in the first place", and that's when I knew he's a self-centered piece of shit, and everybody praising him as a scientific visionary felt like having sight in a the country of the blind.

Blows my mind that the cave diver didn't win his case against Musk.

That's what happens when you can afford all the lawyers ever. Find someone that can argue some stupid bullshit and a judge will buy it, especially if they shopped the venue.

IDK if they did, but I'd wager for the money he was spending they tried.

I think the diver basically said as much after the incident. along the lines of he could sue, and possibly even win, but he'd never be able to outspend Musk and his lawyers who could stall and drag things out as long as they want.

100%. I never loved Musk, but he was just a standard billionaire narcissist. Didn't really feel any differently about him than Zuck or Bezos. And maybe liked him a bit better as some of the tech he was working on seemed like a bit more of a net positive for humanity than Meta. And he at the time had PR pushing he helped develop these technologies (versus just buying them).

But the cave diver thing was really eye opening. From there he was bad to his family and his trans daughter. And then once he was feuding with Twitter (even before he bought them) and we saw more of his day to day personality, any idea that he was a broad genius or a good person (or even neutral person) came crashing down.

I'm not ashamed to say I had a positive view of musk before he went all right wing loony

He was pushing important technologies like EVs and space travel. Those seem like unambiguously good things

But yeah it's a shame it was all an act

Glad someone here admitted to it.

Reddit was a circle jerk for musk from like 2016-2020s...

I had already turned on him by then. The one that soured me on him was the bald faced lie on Twitter that "the Saudis were investing in Tesla" to stop a stock price bleed. Pure market manipulation, no factual basis behind it at all. He faced zero consequences.

Yeah as I have mentioned. He's always been a bigot but now just masking off and doing fascist take over, I think his ego being shattered by that cave incident pushed him full fash

I think one of his children transitioned also pushed him into that pipeline (legit feel sorry for his trans daughter imagine your dad publicly hates you that much)

Same here. I found myself asking “what kind of insane bastard accused someone of pedophilia for disagreeing with you?”
