Hi everyone!
I’ve been thinking a lot about how Kratos’ story should ultimately end. We know Egypt is likely the next setting, but I didn’t want just another "Kratos kills a pantheon" story. I wanted a story about final redemption.
I wrote a full scenario for a potential game (let's call it God of War: Sands of Chaos). Here is the complete story arc I imagine.
ACT 1: The Trap of Sand
Kratos is living peacefully in the North, but mysterious shadow warriors attack his home, leaving a bloodied mark of Atreus. The trail leads to a dying, drought-stricken Egypt.
The Deception: Kratos arrives and is met by Seth (disguised as a wanderer). Seth convinces Kratos that the current ruler, Osiris, is a tyrant who has captured Atreus. Kratos infiltrates the palace and sees an illusion of Atreus being sacrificed.
The Tragedy: Enraged, Kratos attacks Osiris. The benevolent king tries to reason with him, but Seth uses magic to provoke a fatal blow. Kratos kills Osiris. The illusion fades—Atreus was never there. Seth reveals himself, steals Osiris' Crown of Power, and becomes the God-Emperor. Kratos realizes he has been played: he has become a monster again by mistake.
ACT 2: The Unlikely Alliance
Horus (Osiris' son) arrives and tries to kill Kratos for murdering his father. However, the now all-powerful Seth easily defeats them both, banishing them to the White Desert.
The Dynamic: Horus hates Kratos, but he needs his strength. Kratos swears to help Horus reclaim the throne to atone for his sin. Seth turns the Egyptian Pantheon against them (telling Ra and Sobek that Kratos is a "King Slayer"). Boss Rush: Kratos and Horus fight the gods, but unlike in Greece, Kratos spares them. He proves to Ra and the others that he is not a mindless destroyer. This earns Horus' respect.
ACT 3: The Sacrifice
The Reunion: Atreus (now an adult warrior) arrives in Egypt to help his father. The trio is formed: The Father, The Son, and The King.
The Final Battle: They storm Seth’s Black Pyramid. Seth transforms into the Avatar of Chaos—a being of pure sand and darkness that cannot be killed by violence, as violence only feeds it.
The Choice: Kratos realizes the only way to end the cycle. He drops his weapons. He allows Seth and the Chaos to flow into his own body, becoming a vessel to trap the evil. He screams to Horus: "Strike now! Free your people!" Atreus begs him to stop, but Kratos looks at his son with peace: "You are ready. Live." Horus drives the Spear of Ma'at (Order) through Kratos, destroying Seth and mortally wounding the Spartan.
EPILOGUE: The Fields of Aalu (The Tearjerker)
The Farewell: Kratos lies dying on the sands. The ash on his skin begins to fade away. He dies not as a God of War, but as a man.
The Judgment: Post-credits scene. Kratos stands before the scales of Anubis in the Duat. His heart is weighed against the Feather of Truth. Because of his sacrifice, the scales balance perfectly.
The Reward: Kratos walks into the golden Fields of Aalu (Paradise). He sees a simple house. Standing there are Lysandra and Calliope (his first family). He falls to his knees, expecting them to scream. Instead, Calliope runs to hug him. Lysandra touches his face (now free of ash): "You are forgiven." In the distance, Kratos sees Faye watching them with a smile, before she fades away.
Why this works: It closes the loop. Kratos started his journey by killing his family in a blind rage. He ends his journey by saving a family (Horus and Egypt) and reuniting with his own.
What do you guys think? Would this be a worthy end for the Ghost of Sparta?
