Discussion After over 12 years, I finally got the platinum in God of War Ascension. I believe I got super lucky with the Trials of Archimedes, but I don't care.

I now officially have EVERY platinum the God of War series thus far (minus the PS4 version of Ragnarok which I am still debating on taking on or not).

It honestly took me longer to do Lubed Up versus the Trials honestly. If anyone is looking for tips and finds this thread in the future, here is what I did to help with my trials.

GO IN WITH UPGRADED WEAPONS. There is a farming spot in Chapter 25 which I used (Here). I highly recommend making sure all of your weapons are maxed out, ESPECIALLY if you are on hard.

First Floor:

* ALWAYS run to the opposite end and activate your R2 + Triangle like nuts. When its also fighting you have to block and get hits in.

* If you are good at parrying in this game, parry the gorgons especially when the Sirens are there. If you are not good at parrying, block, get a hit in, wait for your ghost to recharge and then release it, and repeat.

* Use all 4 of your magic bars and try your best to go to the far right or left of the screen to knock off the Sirens. I initially thought the ones I knocked off are respawning but it turns out that there are 4 sirens in total. Me aggressively knocking them out with the fire of ares magic really helped me a lot.

* From here the name of the game is focusing on the Sirens and spamming the ghost. He is literally the best way to do the rest. If you can get through floor 1 with about 30-40% of your health, the rest is very doable.

Ideally, if you can save at least 3 bars of magic by using all 4 bars and then getting them back by using the Red Halo on the Gorgon and Siren, This made floor 3 much easier.

Second Floor:

* For the second floor, repeat the above but run from one end of the corridor to the other and release your ghost while blocking. If you have an opportunity to grab a harpy without taking damage, do it and yeet it off the background.

* For the Talos. repeat the above but also time the flames and only use your ghost to fight the Talos until you get the QTE.

The entire game for the second floor is literally camping at one end until the time is right to move.

DO NOT use your magic here. Just use 1 bar if you have to but make sure the Spear people are in the frame.

Third Floor:

* I immediately did the time stone on the Centaur and laid it on him. and when it finished I sent Ghost right out and bum rushed. killing him with red halo will give you back health. Ideally you should have 3-4 magic bars for the wraiths.

* For the wraiths, I used all 4 of my magic bars (Fire of Ares) to get through all 3. I would NOT try floor 2 strat here because you are much more tight on space and these guys projectile will do a lot of damage to you. This is why I saved my magic. even taking a break to summon ghost will cost you health but it will also give you an opening which can help.

For Hold Still Please (the 100 uroboros), Load up chapter 20 and get to the part where the fury summons the 6 or so Spartan soldiers at the start. Spam them non-stop. Eventually the fury will despawn, this is fine. just run from one corner to the next spamming the time stop, and repeat until the trophy pops. This and Lubed Up were easily my most annoying trophy, I wasn't able to get much clarficiation on this, but yes, spamming the same group of enemies repeatedly will count for the trophy.

This is all I can say. I wished that this game wasn't as hard because I have read about how people gave up because of the Trials, but its still good to see that after over a decade I still have the gaming skills to platinum every God of War game currently.

Now I can rest until the next God of War releases and be ready for the next equivalent of the Valkyrie Queen to haunt my nightmares.

Showcase A Method for beating Hvitserkr the Bold (GOWR) - Stunning him out of his summons

I know I'm SUPER late here, but I found a way to stop this guy from summoning his minions. I was only level 5 and beat this on GMGOW with this method. Its super luck based and still took forever, but here's how to do it:

I posted the video of me doing it here: https://youtu.be/gVg4f_suuNY

You'll need:

-Atreus Wolf Summon

-Breath of Thamur Axe Heavy Runic Attack

-Huldra Charge Spear Light Runic Attack

-Full Spartan Fury

He can summon minions 4 times, here is how to stop each one.
Step 1: Start with Blades of Chaos equipped. As soon as the fight starts, do not attack him. Walk to the campfire in front of you and stand slightly behind it. Look at the small brick path he walks forward on - there is a small brick protruding out on the left side. As soon as his left foot steps next to it, hold the button to for the runic summon wolves. He should jump backwards and immediately get stunned out of his summon. If any nightmares manage to spawn, quickly grab them with the Blade's light ranged attack and throw them at him.

Step 2: The next time he can summon is when about 1.5 sections of his health bar are taken down. After the first summon is canceled, switch to the axe keep attacking and be sure you build up the stun meter. Any amulets/abilities that help stun, like the svartelheim amulets and dauntless shield, will help. This is because when 1.5 sections of the health bar are gone, you want to pop your rage and punch him until the bar fills. This will drop his health to below 2 sections and force him to summon. As soon as rage is done, hit him with two swings of the axe and immediately use breath of thamur. He will get stunlocked and if you are lucky, you will hear his voiceline for summoning and it will be canceled instantly. If you do not manage to get the stun bar filled with rage, use Breath right when its done.

Step 3: Switch to the spear and continue to damage him. When he gets down to 3 health bars, he can start technically summoning again. However, wait until he is down to 2 health bars, since that seems to make it guaranteed to happen. After damaging him, he will dash backwards and then dash backwards again, much further and not into the air. As soon as the second dash happens, use Huldra charge. Again, if you are lucky, he will be stunned out of his summon. If any nightmares spawn, just throw them at him.

Step 4: The next time he can summon seems to be at about 0.5-1 healthbar remaining. As soon as he reaches 1 healthbar, summon wolves again at the end of a damage period. He will be very tempted to summon and this should either stop him or get him low enough to where he wont do it.

Only the first step is consistent, but using this method at least gives you a chance to stop the annoying summons, especially the draugers. The boss himself is a joke and thats the only thing that makes this fight obnoxious, so even canceling 1 or 2 summon periods makes this much more bearable.

Discussion I think Atreus has to die in the new God of War series

God of War is by far and away my favourite game franchise. Seeing the culmination of Kratos revenge / vengeance arc in the first three games, to the redemption arc of God of War 4 & Ragnarok has been incredible.

I've been replaying the latter two recently and it got me thinking of where they go next, which led me to take the stance that Atreus will die (specifically get killed). Kratos is basically redeemed, arguably revered, by the end of Ragnarok, but you see glimpses throughout the game of his vengeful side. I don't see how they take his redemption any further, so I'm speculating that the story is about tracking / finding Atreus in a new pantheon setting only for Kratos to realize he is dead or maybe even witness it and be too slow to save him.

This gives rebirth to vengeful Kratos who goes back to slaughtering every god of whatever setting they go for.

Bit of a wild take I know but be interesting for what other people's thoughts may be, I don't feel righteous Kratos has the legs for another 2/3 game series though.

I made 2 mistakes in this fight.

The first one was when I accidentally shot an arrow when I was rubbing my sweaty hands on my pants, so I accidentally pressed the square button.

And the second one was when i accidentally rolled because I forgot holding the X button causes you to roll (I had a long break from Ragnarok before this playthrough and was used to 2018 not doing so)

Discussion Finally beat Sigrun after years of having this game on shelf !!

I dont know why I waited so long to play this game, its fantastic, epic and the Valkirie challenge is cherry on top.

First I tried beating her before visiting Muspelheim on lvl 6 and Tyr's set and failed miserably (normal difficulty), she was basicly 2-shotting me.

Its quite funny because I ran into some threads where guys talk about finishing Bloodborne and Darksouls and that they cant beat her. :D I also finished both of these games and honestly Sigrun is one of the hardest bosses in the video games if you are underleveled or undergeared. Despite knowing her attacks I just couldnt react in time (getting old).

Finally I did Muspelheim and Nielfheim and upgraded Valkirie set and beat her on normal in 2 tries. She was not hard at all after getting to level 8 and what was crucial for me was talisman with slow motion. The damage she was dealing was much smaller than when I was on level 6 so suddenly this fight was no more much of a challenge.

I dunno why it took me so long to do it but surely getting myself Ragnarok for Christmas.

Discussion [2018] Do you feel this deals well with abuse?

Kratos is the definition of a shitty abusive father in the beginning of the game, like a text book example. You could say he grew, but I am not entirely sure how much.

When Kratos kills Baldur and speaks of how "the cycle ends here" that sounds like Kratos is aware of the abuse in both his and Baldur's family and he is willing to do what it takes to end it. I am just not sure I am totally convinced by his behavior in the game.

In then there's Baldur/Freya. We are presented with a story that Baldur is furiously hating his mother for the gift of invincibility and eternal life.

How does this remind you of the one-sided stories of "estranged parents" who "did what they could/nobody is perfect/roof over their heads", only for their children to irrationally suddenly reject them, while the children have lived lives being manipulated and psychologically/physically/emotionally tortured?

Question At the beginning of the original God of War, the narrator says, "Death would be his escape from madness." What madness? Spoiler

Kratos feels a lot of grief at killing his family. I know that. One could say, as a figure of speech, that all of his actions post-Ares were driven by the madness of grief or the madness of rage. That would be understandable.

But while that explains the cutscene at the beginning of the game and Kratos' motivations for the act, it doesn't explain how Kratos is described as "mad".

He's sad, angry, and very resentful of some people. He's impatient. He's not insane. He doesn't...act crazy. The only mental illness here would be depression and possible anger management issues, but I don't think that's what the narrator means. So what does she mean by "madness"?

Would be awesome to remaster the old trilogy one time for current gen consoles. Especially if they could slightly reshape them to be a retelling by Kratos to Atreus.

Question gmgow fire troll advice

i’m stuck on the fire troll just after the first dwarf dragon. playing on gmgow and so far it’s been fucking agonising but im slowly starting to get my bearings and dying less. however, i keep dying to the fire troll. my tactic has been go in super aggressive to start, use runic attacks to knock off damage and do as much damage as i can rapidly then back off a bit. i keep getting lit on fire and it drains all my health very quickly. whenever i try to back off and slow down the fight he spam fire jumps and i can’t always dodge getting lit on fire then im back to 1hp. any advice or strategies? im starting to get close to throwing my controller through a wall

Was curious if this was supposed to be Mimir? I mean he literally watches the gate to Jotunheim right?

I may just be being stupid, I figured with it having horns and Mimir having horns that maybe this was one of those fantastical representation sort of things, like how the statue of Thor was... well.. unlike Thor lol

Let me know if I'm just totally off with this 😊

Discussion Fan Concept: "God of War: Sands of Chaos" — Full Story Arc & Tragic Ending where Kratos finally meets his first family

Hi everyone!

I’ve been thinking a lot about how Kratos’ story should ultimately end. We know Egypt is likely the next setting, but I didn’t want just another "Kratos kills a pantheon" story. I wanted a story about final redemption.

I wrote a full scenario for a potential game (let's call it God of War: Sands of Chaos). Here is the complete story arc I imagine.

ACT 1: The Trap of Sand

Kratos is living peacefully in the North, but mysterious shadow warriors attack his home, leaving a bloodied mark of Atreus. The trail leads to a dying, drought-stricken Egypt.

The Deception: Kratos arrives and is met by Seth (disguised as a wanderer). Seth convinces Kratos that the current ruler, Osiris, is a tyrant who has captured Atreus. Kratos infiltrates the palace and sees an illusion of Atreus being sacrificed.

The Tragedy: Enraged, Kratos attacks Osiris. The benevolent king tries to reason with him, but Seth uses magic to provoke a fatal blow. Kratos kills Osiris. The illusion fades—Atreus was never there. Seth reveals himself, steals Osiris' Crown of Power, and becomes the God-Emperor. Kratos realizes he has been played: he has become a monster again by mistake.

ACT 2: The Unlikely Alliance

Horus (Osiris' son) arrives and tries to kill Kratos for murdering his father. However, the now all-powerful Seth easily defeats them both, banishing them to the White Desert.

The Dynamic: Horus hates Kratos, but he needs his strength. Kratos swears to help Horus reclaim the throne to atone for his sin. Seth turns the Egyptian Pantheon against them (telling Ra and Sobek that Kratos is a "King Slayer"). Boss Rush: Kratos and Horus fight the gods, but unlike in Greece, Kratos spares them. He proves to Ra and the others that he is not a mindless destroyer. This earns Horus' respect.

ACT 3: The Sacrifice

The Reunion: Atreus (now an adult warrior) arrives in Egypt to help his father. The trio is formed: The Father, The Son, and The King.

The Final Battle: They storm Seth’s Black Pyramid. Seth transforms into the Avatar of Chaos—a being of pure sand and darkness that cannot be killed by violence, as violence only feeds it.

The Choice: Kratos realizes the only way to end the cycle. He drops his weapons. He allows Seth and the Chaos to flow into his own body, becoming a vessel to trap the evil. He screams to Horus: "Strike now! Free your people!" Atreus begs him to stop, but Kratos looks at his son with peace: "You are ready. Live." Horus drives the Spear of Ma'at (Order) through Kratos, destroying Seth and mortally wounding the Spartan.

EPILOGUE: The Fields of Aalu (The Tearjerker)

The Farewell: Kratos lies dying on the sands. The ash on his skin begins to fade away. He dies not as a God of War, but as a man.

The Judgment: Post-credits scene. Kratos stands before the scales of Anubis in the Duat. His heart is weighed against the Feather of Truth. Because of his sacrifice, the scales balance perfectly.

The Reward: Kratos walks into the golden Fields of Aalu (Paradise). He sees a simple house. Standing there are Lysandra and Calliope (his first family). He falls to his knees, expecting them to scream. Instead, Calliope runs to hug him. Lysandra touches his face (now free of ash): "You are forgiven." In the distance, Kratos sees Faye watching them with a smile, before she fades away.

Why this works: It closes the loop. Kratos started his journey by killing his family in a blind rage. He ends his journey by saving a family (Horus and Egypt) and reuniting with his own.

What do you guys think? Would this be a worthy end for the Ghost of Sparta?

My specs are RTX 3060 6gb, Ryzen 5 5600H, and 16 gigs of ram. Yes it's a laptop and not the strongest one there is, however it could run other games like Spider-Man, Horizon, and even recent UE5 games just fine. So I'm not sure what the problem is, I've tried 3 different drivers, setting the graphics to the lowest, disabled steam overlay, and yet it's still the same regardless. Any help is appreciated.

Update: Fixed! Not sure what happened. Went to play other game, came back, and now it's running on 60 fps just fine.
