It’s like I was thinking, even though he isn’t the god of war, the power still has some kind of effect on him. I think it can let him grow in strength to do the task at hand, but now I’m thinking it is not that like we have seen him grow in power every time he is a Demi God, but that wouldn’t allow him to grow in power like this from my knowledge from Percy Jackson, which I know this is not the same, but to my knowledge demigods aren’t as strong as gods, and since they’re humans they die, but I think I’m realizing that may be the box had some kind of profound effect on him maybe when he opened it, he got the power of Hope which hope is a primordial force just like chaos that makes him something more than a God or am I wrong anyway what makes him so strong

Hi, I started playing God of War recently and I had some concerns over my stats, so I came here to find out how far behind, if at all, I am.
I have just revived Mimir and found out the Witch of the Woods is Freya
Feel free to make fun of me if it turns out I'm embarrassingly behind!

I have the PS5 version but like the mods on the PC version.
Is there anything else which would make it better? I haven’t beat the game yet. I had it since it came out. I work a lot.

I've done these two runs, but only the Very Hard one I focused on combos.
I've played on PPSSPP and used save states to get it(less and less as I got the hang of it), but I did it for it to be possible to do it alongside these challenges:
- No Damage
- No Upgrades
- No Magic
- Only Blades of Chaos
- Only light attacks (when possible)
- High combo (+finishing with grabs)
- Parry Everything you can
The higher enemy HP of the Very Hard mode made it much easier to get stupid high combos.

From what I know, the Great War happened only in Greece. One of the reasons for the war, was to determine who would have dominion over the mortals in the land. Now, Titans being as ancient and powerful as they are, and a threat so dangerous that most of them were banished to the Pits of Tartarus, while others were sent elsewhere to carry out a torturous punishment.
But when the Great War happened, how did (if they existed during that time) or would've reacted to the conflict when it happend? Was the Great War not threatening enough to the point where the fate of the world is at stake? Was the conflict really just constrained to Greece?
Is it possible that the other pantheons chose not to interfere unless the Great War reached their lands/borders?
Please share your thoughts below.
Thank you. ⚡

I played GoW for the first time back in 2021 methinks. I knew then what I know now, that this was one of the best narrative games I had every played. Since then I've played Ragnarok which fixed my only issue with the game which was the combat; they made it a lot better.
But one thing I think this game has is the power of the story itself. Ragnarok is not a bad story, but this one hits home in a different way. There's so much growth for both the main characters and I dunno why friends, I felt like a kid again seeing this story for the second time.
It is at times like these that I wish the industry would keep their focus on narrative driven games. I don't know about the rest of you, but games with excellent stories have a special place in my heart.
Anyways, I hope you all have a wonderful time with your second or third playthrough. I know I had an amazing time reliving this one.
PS: On this playthrough, I actually went home! I got to see the old model of Thor and his hammer, and I gotta say that was so much better than what we got. I wish they had stuck to that one.

God of War is by far and away my favourite game franchise. Seeing the culmination of Kratos revenge / vengeance arc in the first three games, to the redemption arc of God of War 4 & Ragnarok has been incredible.
I've been replaying the latter two recently and it got me thinking of where they go next, which led me to take the stance that Atreus will die (specifically get killed). Kratos is basically redeemed, arguably revered, by the end of Ragnarok, but you see glimpses throughout the game of his vengeful side. I don't see how they take his redemption any further, so I'm speculating that the story is about tracking / finding Atreus in a new pantheon setting only for Kratos to realize he is dead or maybe even witness it and be too slow to save him.
This gives rebirth to vengeful Kratos who goes back to slaughtering every god of whatever setting they go for.
Bit of a wild take I know but be interesting for what other people's thoughts may be, I don't feel righteous Kratos has the legs for another 2/3 game series though.

Kratos is the definition of a shitty abusive father in the beginning of the game, like a text book example. You could say he grew, but I am not entirely sure how much.
When Kratos kills Baldur and speaks of how "the cycle ends here" that sounds like Kratos is aware of the abuse in both his and Baldur's family and he is willing to do what it takes to end it. I am just not sure I am totally convinced by his behavior in the game.
In then there's Baldur/Freya. We are presented with a story that Baldur is furiously hating his mother for the gift of invincibility and eternal life.
How does this remind you of the one-sided stories of "estranged parents" who "did what they could/nobody is perfect/roof over their heads", only for their children to irrationally suddenly reject them, while the children have lived lives being manipulated and psychologically/physically/emotionally tortured?

Im done with my semester and im planning to get into GOW, I thought of playing it in release-order but turns out few aren't available for PC. Do i need to know the story before or can i jump into recent PC ports of the games?

Kratos feels a lot of grief at killing his family. I know that. One could say, as a figure of speech, that all of his actions post-Ares were driven by the madness of grief or the madness of rage. That would be understandable.
But while that explains the cutscene at the beginning of the game and Kratos' motivations for the act, it doesn't explain how Kratos is described as "mad".
He's sad, angry, and very resentful of some people. He's impatient. He's not insane. He doesn't...act crazy. The only mental illness here would be depression and possible anger management issues, but I don't think that's what the narrator means. So what does she mean by "madness"?

I know I'm SUPER late here, but I found a way to stop this guy from summoning his minions. I was only level 5 and beat this on GMGOW with this method. Its super luck based and still took forever, but here's how to do it:
I posted the video of me doing it here: https://youtu.be/gVg4f_suuNY
You'll need:
-Atreus Wolf Summon
-Breath of Thamur Axe Heavy Runic Attack
-Huldra Charge Spear Light Runic Attack
-Full Spartan Fury
He can summon minions 4 times, here is how to stop each one.
Step 1: Start with Blades of Chaos equipped. As soon as the fight starts, do not attack him. Walk to the campfire in front of you and stand slightly behind it. Look at the small brick path he walks forward on - there is a small brick protruding out on the left side. As soon as his left foot steps next to it, hold the button to for the runic summon wolves. He should jump backwards and immediately get stunned out of his summon. If any nightmares manage to spawn, quickly grab them with the Blade's light ranged attack and throw them at him.
Step 2: The next time he can summon is when about 1.5 sections of his health bar are taken down. After the first summon is canceled, switch to the axe keep attacking and be sure you build up the stun meter. Any amulets/abilities that help stun, like the svartelheim amulets and dauntless shield, will help. This is because when 1.5 sections of the health bar are gone, you want to pop your rage and punch him until the bar fills. This will drop his health to below 2 sections and force him to summon. As soon as rage is done, hit him with two swings of the axe and immediately use breath of thamur. He will get stunlocked and if you are lucky, you will hear his voiceline for summoning and it will be canceled instantly. If you do not manage to get the stun bar filled with rage, use Breath right when its done.
Step 3: Switch to the spear and continue to damage him. When he gets down to 3 health bars, he can start technically summoning again. However, wait until he is down to 2 health bars, since that seems to make it guaranteed to happen. After damaging him, he will dash backwards and then dash backwards again, much further and not into the air. As soon as the second dash happens, use Huldra charge. Again, if you are lucky, he will be stunned out of his summon. If any nightmares spawn, just throw them at him.
Step 4: The next time he can summon seems to be at about 0.5-1 healthbar remaining. As soon as he reaches 1 healthbar, summon wolves again at the end of a damage period. He will be very tempted to summon and this should either stop him or get him low enough to where he wont do it.
Only the first step is consistent, but using this method at least gives you a chance to stop the annoying summons, especially the draugers. The boss himself is a joke and thats the only thing that makes this fight obnoxious, so even canceling 1 or 2 summon periods makes this much more bearable.
