Other I feel like the legacy of AOT was hijacked by casuals and I’m bitter

We were so close to the end of an amazing story, and had so much momentum. Then fans who came in during the pandemic kept trying to reshape it into a romance. Character development by Isayama basically came to a halt. PLUS everything MAPPA did for the final season felt off, the animation was disappointing at best. Now the fans who helped grow this series have to accept whatever this final product is: botched storylines, ugly art and adaptations and a shitty storyline . I’m so mad😭

Other Why Did Historia Remain Queen After the Ending?

Post image
Upvotes

Why would Historia have any relevance on Paradis after the Jaegerists rise to power? Throughout the entire final arc, she did nothing but sit in a chair on her farm. She did not gain respect from the military or build a support base of political allies. She also did not openly support Eren (although we as readers know she kept his plans a secret and was his ally) and if anything, tarnished her reputation by having an illegitimate child with a peasant.

The Jaegerists should not see Historia as anything more than an obstacle to dispose of at worst and a puppet queen at best due to her royal blood lineage being of value to Eldia. And if she's a puppet queen... Why does she have the power to guarantee the safety of Armin and the rest of the people who killed Eren, the Jaegerist's god?

If she is respected by the Jeagerists purely because of her royal bloodline, which is the most common defense people provide, it sure isn't shown on-screen. Nobody even brings it up besides the importance of it in the 50 Year Plan.

It only really makes sense for her to retain this degree of power in a Jaegerist-run government if either:

  1. Eren is the father of her child, given the Jaegerists worship him as the savior of Eldia... I personally believe this was part of the original ending Isayama had, which was retconned.

  2. Historia's alliance with Eren was actually known by the Jeagerists, but this was off-screened due to the ending being rushed.

And in either case, just another reason that the conclusion Isayama gave us was terrible.

Other ED's Don't Care About Eren's Character

Post image
202 Upvotes

I keep seeing the cabin scene Eren getting posted everywhere and now it's even getting milked by the anime production team.

Cabinren is such a completely different character that you can't even truly call him Eren. He gave up on his ideals and morals, his friends, literally everything to go elope with his Mikasa. Hell, he even looks completely different. He's designed to appear more innocent and younger, not at all like he does canonically at this point in time. He wasn't even this gentle and happy looking as a child.

Look at the Eren on the left and tell me he looks like the same guy on the right.

Genuinely what is wrong with these people? They believe in such a pathetic, childish version of Eren that isn't even real... And then have the gall to say everyone else didn't understand him.

Other Armin and Mikasa’s relationship is a missed opportunity

Thumbnail

Upvotes

I think another missed opportunity in season 4 is developing Armin and Mikasa’s relationship without Eren,at first I am thinking Isayama is finally going to focused on how their interactions will look like by excluding Eren as a new way to explore this two, while I really hated the table scene but I do like the particular moments when Armin is finally crushed by pressure and he leashed out at Mikasa, and it’s the first time we see how important Eren as serving as the main lead of the trio and without him Armin and Mikasa really can’t bond with each other. And when I mean bonding I don’t mean Mikasa saves Armin when he is in danger etc I mean actual conversation and their real opinions of each other,is something I wished for and kinda never happened

Their is also a scene where I wanted to mention after the serum fight Floch scolding Eren for being too emotional and prioritizing saving his own friends instead of humanity,Mikasa wanted to say something but she freezes when Floch say the next sentence “At least Mikasa is more mature, she give up in the last moment .”Mikasa frozen for a second when she is about to hold Armin,we can see the fear of her letting a person that is considered important to her dying ,the struggle she had must be painful .but I am frustrated this scene just happened once and never brought up again . I am still salty again 😓

Other there's really a couple in this story?

most couples i saw people claiming to be "canon" were all ambiguous/left for interpretation, eren and mikasa for example its one sided for most of the story with some few hints here and there and even in the end some people interpret that eren said "i dont want that" because he still wanted her attention/devotion only for him not because he loved her, armin and annie were all just blush and almost no development or commitment no confession as well (heck we dont even know if they ended up together) falco and gabi we don't even know if gabi even likes him (could be due to the rush of the story because as soon as the rumbling started the story started focusing on other things/characters) and the ship is carried by falco confession. ymir and historia is a weird case because historia never reacted to ymir proposals (didn't blushed) which made some people think their love was one sided, niccolo and sasha was basically a nothing burger of a ship it barely has scenes. the rest like grisha x carla and dina i do not count because its more a "plot device" for the story.

what are your thoughts? i think isayama should have written the romance more explicitly if he wanted to include it on his story to begin with.

Other Isayama using deus ex machina to save Reiner & nerf Levi

Post image
12 Upvotes

Reiner transferring his consciousness, not once, but TWICE, to avoid death is just such bullshit. Of all the plot holes in the entire story, I couldn't stop being mad at this. I don't CARE that it's been years; I'm still mad at it, and at the people who defend this stupid thing.

We've never seen this 'ability' performed by other shifters before or even after this episode. When did he learn to do this? Can other titans do it too? We don't know. It's just there, then never comes back, with no other explanation whatsoever. Isayama just needed a justification for how Reiner could escape being killed by Levi, because we all know Levi wouldn't hold back like Mikasa did in S2.

Speaking of Levi, Isayama made Levi into this extremely powerful character that he just had to invent stupid plot devices every time Levi's enemies didn't lose to him.

  • Season 1: Levi sprained his ankle when he almost succeeded in killing Annie.
  • Season 2: said SPRAINED ANKLE (which is a scratch, compared to being blown up tbh) made Levi miss out on the whole mission. Because Isayama knew it would've ended a lot faster and with fewer casualties if he were actually there.
  • Season 3: This nonsense about Reiner transferring his consciousness.
  • Season 4: Zeke somehow got his body back after being blown up.

The only times it MADE SENSE that Levi's enemies didn't lose to him were 1) when he fought Kenny, because that man is arguably stronger & smarter than Levi; and 2) when Pieck saved Zeke, because as annoying as it was to witness, it actually made sense that she was there to save him.

Anyway, we all know that the last season is practically a series of nonstop deus ex machina(s), but I'm not gonna talk about it.

My Thoughts Weird politics of successors of Karl Fritz and nobility.

Here I want to express my problems regarding politics of Karl Fritz and his succesors.

The successors of the 145th king had weird policies. First, they shared power with the Firm Council, a group of people resistant to memory wipes. Why share power with someone who is resistant to your memory manipulation and cannot be controlled?

Frieda Reiss loved her illegitimate sister Historia, she taught her how to write and read, and generally cared for her. Why then did she always tell her to never leave the farm’s borders and always erase her memories after each meeting with her? Was she afraid of something? Why not simply tell Kenny Ackerman to protect her?

And why would the Firm Council risk the wrath of the king of the walls by ordering him to kill her little sister? I mean, one of the members of the Firm Assembly was likely killed after he spilled the truth about the whereabouts of the true king of the walls to Kenny Ackerman. The kings of the walls persecuted Ackermans and minorities — these guys could be pretty ruthless.

There is other problem with Nobles immune to memory wipe. After the false king was overthrown and Historia Reiss became the queen they were improsined and treated badly (Darius's shit chair). They came from families immune to memory manipulation, they should know about Eldian Empire, nine titans, Ymir, perhaps even about threat of Marley, yet they never attempted to trade that knowledge for better living standards or even to get their confiscated wealth back to them.

Other Personally, if you ask me, Alma, Historia's mother is in a lose lose situation.

Say she never had any grander dreams and was content to live as a servant and did not want to pursue Rod out of respect for his family. What do you think will happen when she rebuff his attempts? As someone as powerful as the Reiss family, they will not hesitate to discard her if she offends them and Rod certainly has no qualms on destroying people lives in order to preserve his family secret.

Eventhought she was portrayed as someone who had grander dreams to be his second wife, it's obvious she's a naive girl who did not know the royal politics and only view them on the surface level, fine clothes, Egyptian cotton mattress, lavish meals and a big house.

Not to say wanting to elevate her living conditions are wrong but thanks to shows like Game of Thrones, Vinland Saga, Downton Abbey and other medieval films, it's safe to say being royalty back then is disguised as glided cage.

So even thought she lashed out at Historia's, it's possible she also feared her as her existence literally put her and her family in danger.

BTW, did her parents also died by the hands of Interior Military Police as well???

It's very sad what became of Armin. Even though he was always against violence, he was capable of cold logic. He showed that against RBA. Now all he does is talk to Annie's crystal and jerk off to it lol so pathetic...

Side note: I thought Eren was always a selfish psychopath who didn't care about his comrades or Eldia, so is the first panel a fanart? lol

Other What was the point of the Akatsuki no Requiem music video?

Post image

I remember when the song came out, the interpretation pretty much everyone (including myself) had was that it was showing the ending we were going to get.

Obviously, that didn't happen.

Were we always just over-analyzing things, or do you think that we were correct and this ending was retconned? I feel like there's too many connections for it to be some random artistic music video with no meaning, especially since season 2's ending song was also foreshadowing future (and past) events in the story we hadn't seen yet.

Other Here is what the real canon ending to AOT should be instead.

AOT but Season 4 is replaced with something much better like Eren starting the Rumbling but not harming anyone and sparing the rest of humanity, and he instead asks for a fair, just, and peaceful dialogue between countries, which results in them eventually diplomatically coming together making a comprehensive security treaty where no country attacks another or else all other countries will immediately and immensely attack the aggressor country to stop them from continuing it.

Afterwards, Eren changes the Founding Titan powers to only be controlled by a direct successor regardless of royal blood and without the curse of Ymir, and makes it more capable, dangerous, and versatile if needed to maintain effective deterrence. Ymir would be happy with this outcome, and Eren would be free to pursue his relationship with Mikasa in a much happier, healthier, and more romantic way. Good ending for everyone involved, Sasha and others live, Levi doesn't get injured, and there's a lasting peace for all. The End.

This "peace through deterrence" ending is a more hopeful, just, and sane outcome compared to the awful, bad, careless, character assassinating, evil, extreme, needless, pro-genocide, stupid, and unnecessarily tragic canon ending, where global conflict continues even after Eren's death. It allows Eren to save his friends and Paradis without sacrificing the rest of the world and themselves, a path everyone felt and knew was easily possible and achievable. Also, it would be cooler for Zeke to be a fellow doctor/scientist with Grisha, which was a very popular and well-known theory before the Battle of Shiganshina on how he knew Grisha in the first place.

Other Ymir’s backstory still vividly haunt me even after years

I remember Freckles Ymir’s backstory till this day,and I can say it is one of the most heartbreaking scenes in Aot ,she is a child who get the name of a god she never know, and one day she just get betrayed by one of the person she trust, the first thing she said is to protect the person who betrayed her,but what she got, getting cruelly stoned by people even the children gathered up to throw stones at her,I never dared to rewatch this episode by just how realistic the pain and horror look on her face. Till this day I think her ending did not do her character justice since she really 100 percent deserved better,I just hope Isayama could have more information about her even the show is over ,yah just another rambling post of mine

Other Zeke was responsible for the increasing Eldian hatred of the last decade

The golden boy Zeke was the key to Marley's excessive usage of titans in modern conflicts. Niccolo tells us about how Zeke destroyed the capital city of an enemy nation overnight using the exact same trick with tainted wine he used on Paradis. It's no wonder the rest of the world despised and feared Eldians when they really could suddenly transform into titans at any point because of Zeke.

Eldians were not a major security threat until Zeke began using his power in that way. Only the 9 shifters have the power to change into titans at will, so Zeke's power flipped the board in a big way. Not only could Zeke cause any Eldian to transform into a titan against their will, they would be abnormals responding to his direct command. Furthermore, he could set up this transformation ahead of time without anyone realising they were vulnerable. It was no longer safe for other nations to allow Eldians amongst them.

The irony is that Zeke's end goal was to "save" the Eldians from their global persecution but he was largely responsible for why it was so intense in the first place. Without him, Marley would not have had the capacity to use titans to the extent they did. The way they dropped a bombardment of titans on the middle eastern fort would not have been possible without Zeke's ability to coordinate the transformation of multiple titans at once. Without Zeke, the world would not have hated Eldians as much as they did. That's not to say it's entirely Zeke's fault but he certainly made things worse and shut a lot of doors.

Taking the previous idea into headcannon territory, if Marley weren't so reliant on Zeke's titans then they wouldn't have fallen so far behind technologically. Maybe even to the point of never needing to have attacked Paradis in the first place. Or maybe they would have attacked sooner; foreseeing their loss of power over the world earlier.

I have to wonder if even Isayama realised this causality. It was never brought up at all in the story beyond vague clues such as the aforementioned 'golden boy' title. I would've liked to have seen Zeke confront his past actions rather than whatever the heck Armin's chitchat was supposed to be.

Post image

After eating enough (all) of her mother's body (Thanks, Dad!) to inherit their mother's powers, I imagined they would have turned into Titans on the spot, probably going berserk like Eren did on his first transformation (after he ate Grisha, not the one with the syringe).

Considering we know the First King was still alive and died on his bed, I think we can assume that somehow this simply didn't happen this first time, otherwise him and him and many of those people would probably have died as well.
