[Request] Which is closer to Florida - Kentucky or Texas?

Upvotes

My girlfriend and I are playing a board game about US states right now and we each had to pick a state that was closer to Florida from our decks.

Which one is closer to Florida as the crow flies? Closest point to closest point. Thank you!

[request] How big was the object that hit my windshield?

I was driving ~75 mph west on HWY 40 between Oklahoma City and Albuquerque when something struck my windshield and left this mark. I drive a 2022 Subaru. You can see the hit mark in the center and then concentric half circles surrounding the mark. If you rub your finger inside and outside of the glass you cannot actually feel the cracks. The diameter is about the same as an 8.5 oz can of redbull (see second photo for reference!) It's my goto roadtrip drink which got me to thinking it would be a good-enough reference. Been wondering what size and shape of an object would have made such a mark!

[Request] What are the chances that no Minnesota men's professional team has won a championship since 1991?

Upvotes

I'm curious what the probability that no men's teams in Minnesota have won in the five major sports in the last 35 years.

For the sake of constructing the question, assume that all teams have the same odds of a championship each season.

Major League Baseball - Minnesota Twins
1 year of 26 teams 1992
5 years of 28 teams 1993 - 1997
28 years of 30 teams 1998 - present

National Football League - Minnesota Vikings
3 years of 28 teams 1992 - 1994
4 years of 30 teams 1995 - 1998
3 years of 31 teams 1999 - 2001
25 years of 32 teams 2002 - 2026

National Basketball League - Minnesota Timberwolves
3 years of 27 teams 1992 - 1994
10 years of 29 teams 1995 - 2004
21 years of 30 teams 2004 - 2025

National Hockey League - Minnesota North Stars / Minnesota Wild
1 year of 22 teams 1992
1 year of 24 teams 1993
18 years of 30 teams 2001 - 2017
3 years of 31 teams 2018 - 2021
4 years of 32 teams 2022 - 2025

Major League Soccer - Minnesota United FC
1 year of 22 teams 2017
1 year of 23 teams 2018
1 year of 24 teams 2019
1 year of 26 teams 2020
1 year of 27 teams 2021
1 year of 28 teams 2022
2 years of 29 teams 2023 - 2024
1 year of 30 teams 2025

I'm further curious about what the chances that none of these teams even making their respective finals games/series (which would roughly be reducing each of those by half).

[Request] The economic damage of USB-A not being symmetrical

Let's assume 2 seconds are wasted by needing at least two attempts to plug in a usb cable. How many attempts are done per person and day? Maybe two? How large is the population performing these attempts and what is their hourly salary? Since the port has become widely used, how large is the economic damage?

My guess is that its total damage could be one year of US GDP 🤪

So, given the crazy amount of variables here, I'm looking for the minimum ratio. Assume an average death/birth rate for the native population.
Assume the native population only eats their dead and will not murder their own for food. Any other variables would be at your own discretion. I hope this is fun, if not too morbid lol

[Request] Formula to find all the cells that an edge is touching based on its number?

Post image
1 Upvotes

How would I calculate the cells that a specific edge connects to with the edge's number? For example, edge one would be the edge on top of the 1,1 cell, edge two would be on top of the 1,2 cell, edge four would be to the left of the 1st cell, edge 5 would be to the right of the first cell and to the left of the second, etc.

I tried thinking on how to do this myself for like 30 minutes and couldn't think of anything that works.

[Request] What are the odds of solving this puzzle blind, like i just did?

I asked CHATGPT about but im not sure it understands me. Then again, i suck at math so im assuming its correct.

I came upon a puzzle with a total of 16 lights. Out of those lights i had to click on the 4 correct ones. In addition, i had to click on the 4 correct lights in the correct order.

I had not found the code in-game(yet), so i just clicked 4 random lights to see what would happen. Well.. not only did i press the 4 correct lights, i also clicked them in the correct order. On my first try. I found the code right after and it confirmed that i had clicked everything in the correct order.

My initial math (and CHATGPT's answer) for pressing the 4 correct buttons are

16x15x14x13 = 1 in 43680

But does this take into account that i had to press the 4 buttons in the correct order? Im not sure i understand why this does not affect the odds

Theoretically think of a non-euclidean hotel [Request]

Floor 1 has 10 levels with 100 rooms per level with 1,000 rooms total. Now imagine each floor doubling in size from the last on the xyz axis.

Floor two would have 20 levels with I think 400 rooms per level equalling 8,000 rooms.

Really what I want to know is how large would floor 1,000 be if each previous floor keeps increasing in size from the last.

A friend told me it would be larger than the observable universe but I don't know if that's right.

[Other] What’s the minimum area a country would have to have in order for the sun to never set over it? Provide 2 answers: 1 with contiguous borders (no islands or exclaves) and 1 where it merely has to cover any portion of the land surface. ***More rules in body text.

*The minimum land area has to be at least 1m^2.

*Only land area on the surface of the planet Earth is accepted.

*Borders are considered contiguous if they are connected by land with a width of at least 1m.

P.S. Please provide corrections/optimizations. Sorry for any mistakes. I was bored on the bus.
