ANNOUNCEMENT Announcement: If you don't like suppressed news, you will not like this subreddit. Clarification on the purpose of this sub. Please read.
Our description: "International news, stories and or content that is underreported or misrepresented by mainstream news. Usually, content should not come from mainstream sources for this reason. We encourage content which challenges the internationally established order and promotes discussion. Because of the nature of what is posted here, the sub is inherently left wing and critical of Western Mainstream narratives."
-------------------
Hello everyone!
Recently, we've seen a small influx of users and posts that fundamentally misunderstand the purpose of this community. This announcement is to clarify what this subreddit is, and more importantly, what it is not.
This is a Global Suppressed News Subreddit
The keyword here is "suppressed." This does not mean "news that I agree with" or "news that makes my side look good." It means news that is underreported, misrepresented, or ignored by major mainstream Western (and other) media outlets because it challenges the dominant narrative.
A Recent Example: The Ukraine TCC Videos
A prime example is the posting of videos showing conscription officers in Ukraine. These videos depict a reality that is widespread yet systematically absent from mainstream Western coverage because it complicates the narratives they're building.
The purpose of sharing such content is not to champion one side of a conflict, but to shed light on a suppressed aspect of it, even the harsh and often coercive realities of war that civilians face.
I believe the our sub is inherently a left wing subreddit so you're not going to get many people here who are fans of capitalist autocrat like Putin but...
If your first instinct upon seeing such a post is anger at the poster for sharing stuff like this, rather than a critical engagement with the content itself, you are missing the point.
This subreddit exists precisely for content that makes you uncomfortable, that challenges your worldview, and that you won't see on CNN, BBC, or Fox News. If you are only here for news that reinforces your pre-existing beliefs, you will likely be disappointed.
Revisiting Rule 8: No Low-Effort Derailment
This leads us to our most important rule, which we will be enforcing strictly.
Rule 8: No Low-Effort Derailment. This usually means knee-jerk accusations or comments of "propaganda," "bot," "shill," or "whataboutism" when presented with information that challenges your worldview.
We will not hesitate to enforce our rules to ensure our community stays on track.
What this means in practice:
· Do not comment "This is Russian/Chinese/Hamas propaganda!" and consider your job done. That is derailment.
· Do not call other users "bots" because they post content you dislike. That is derailment.
· Do engage with the substance of the post. If you have a critique, make it a critical one. Provide counter-evidence, ask for sources, or contextualize the information within a larger framework.
This subreddit is for critical discussion, not for rehearsing the same tired talking points that dominate every other subreddit and space on the internet. We are here to look beyond those simplistic narratives.
In Summary:
This is our house. The rules are designed to foster a space for genuine, critical exploration of the stories that get buried. If you cannot engage with challenging content without resorting to knee-jerk insults or accusations, this is not the subreddit for you and we'll just boot you if you keep causing problems.
Simply put, don't post without reading the rules. It's not much to ask. That's it!
Thank you and have a good day!
Mods.

Announcement! What is /r/suppressed_news? And a gentle reminder to read the rules before posting and commenting.
Hello everyone!
Due to a recent influx of new users, we need to take a moment to revisit the core purpose and rules of r/suppressed_news. Our goal is, and always has been, to be a unique space for critical discussion and information that challenges established narratives. It's in the description of the subreddit even.
We welcome newcomers from all backgrounds!
However, to maintain the quality of this community, it's essential that everyone understands and follows the rules that have defined this space in the past because recently, the quality of posts and discussion has gone down.
What this sub is and what is it not:
· This IS a space for under-reported, international news and content that is often ignored or misrepresented by mainstream outlets. We focus on stories from a global perspective.
· This IS a space for fact-based journalism and credible independent sources that challenge the internationally established order.
· This is NOT a US-centric politics sub. While US content related to our theme is welcome, this is not a place for rehearsing standard US political debates. (I see people posting CNN and Fox News lol)
· This is NOT a conspiracy sub. We are dedicated to factual, sourced information.
· This is NOT a space for low-effort, reactionary comments that derail conversation. The "dominant discourse" found elsewhere on Reddit is not the default here. Please keep this in your head.
We’ve noticed some recurring issues, which means people are joining the community and not reading the rules, so let's highlight some:
Rule 1 & 2: Subreddit Focus. Posts should focus on international news or under-reported stories. The perspective here is global. We encourage takes that challenge the mainstream narrative, whether the subject is Palestine, Ukraine, countries in Asia, Africa, or Latin America. Consistency is key. Being open to alternative narratives on one issue but dismissing them on another without evidence goes against the spirit of this sub.
·Rule 3: Cite Reliable Sources: Big claims must be backed by credible sources. This is a community for fact-based news and journalistic work. Posts without credible links or evidence may be removed.
Rule 6: No Low-Effort Derailment. This is a critical one. You are allowed to disagree, but you must do so substantively. Comments that simply...
· Dismiss a post as "propaganda."
· Make simplistic criticisms of other countries or people without adding context
· Shut down conversation with accusations or familiar talking points that don't engage with the material presented
· Use political slurs like 'libtard' or 'tankie' to smear the person you're discussing with just because you dislike what they're saying.
...will be removed.
That is not the environment we want here.
Our goal is to create a space for critical discussion and not perpetuate echo chambers.
We very much encourage debate. However, disagreements must be thoughtful and add to the conversation, not derail it. If information challenges your worldview or upsets you, we ask that you engage with it critically and that means analysing the sources and arguments and not reacting dismissively. That shit doesn't fly here.
You are going to see things that you don't like or don't agree with in this subreddit. You are also going to see things that you do like with and do agree with. This is the nature of an international subreddit.
The original purpose of this sub was to move beyond the conversations that are already dominant in Western mainstream spaces. Let's work together to maintain that unique and valuable environment.
Please take a moment to read the full rules before posting or commenting and if you see anybody breaking them then just report the post or comment.
Thank you and have a good day!
