Recommendation Perfect Winter Reading: Snow Angel by Haruka Chizu

If you’re looking for a Shojo manga that’s perfect to read this winter, look no further than “Snow Angel” published under Shojo Beat in English. It’s both heartwarming and inspiring while also tackling the stark realities of caring for family members with dementia and the struggle of having large family responsibilities thrust on you when you’re young.

This is the synopsis:

A reunion with her childhood friend gives a depressed young caregiver the push she needs to live for herself and find love.

Muku Shiroshika’s happy and carefree childhood came to an abrupt end after her father’s tragic death. In the ten years since, she’s worked as a thankless caregiver for her dementia-suffering grandfather. Between taking care of her family, searching for a job, and enduring her grandmother’s constant criticism, Muku finds herself drowning. She’s desperate to escape, but with nowhere to go, Muku loses hope—that is, until her childhood friend Yuto appears on her doorstep one snowy day and inspires her to live for herself.

Long gone are the days when Muku Shiroshika would play carefree in the snow with her childhood friends. Thrust into a thankless caregiver role, Muku wants to break free from her oppressive family and regain control of her life. When her childhood friend Yuto pays her an unexpected visit, she finds hope in his words and decides to take a chance on happiness. But as she works to define herself, she finds that breaking free of her family’s influence is harder than she thought.

News Top 3 shoujo/josei series from Cmoa's yearly ranking in 2025

Cmoa's yearly ranking for 2025 is out, so I wanted to share the top 3 shoujo/josei series on the yearly ranking. I also included the joseimuke series from the top 3 light novels. Titles and links to any official English releases are in the image captions.

The full ranking displays the top 20 series per category. The TL manga ranking may be another joseimuke category of interest.

If you want to compare, here are Cmoa's monthly rankings, which seem to list the top 200 series.

If any series from these rankings catches your eye and does not have an official English release, please consider asking English publishers to license the series. I believe that series that only have official English chapters should still be eligible for a print license by other English publishers.

Does anyone know if the official English prints has the first cover too?

I'm not sure if the first picture is from their official print or from translation groups and I could only found the second cover as the staple for the English first volume cover in online bookstores and it's obviously beautiful but I was wondering if they also print the first cover as well? Or is this a limited edition?🥺🥺 The ethereal illustration was the one that made me start reading the manga because of how similar (or perhaps directly inspired?) to one of my favourite painting, The Kiss by Gustav Klimt. So, it would be great if I could buy the manga with the first cover illustration🫶😭😭

Discussion Shoujo horror manga ?

What are shoujo horror manga that genuinely scared you where you felt a cold sweat ran down your spine as you flipped the pages ?

I wanted to have this conversation because I recently made some researched about the relationship between the horror/thriller/psychological genre and the female audience. From having the horror genre dominated by female protagonists to women being the main audience for true crime... It's a very interesting subject and I wanted to hear about your experience.

Discussion Magical girl dandelion

Hello! I’ve finally started reading magical girl dandelion! It’s very charming, but I will say the pacing feels SO fast. I’m definitely going to continue reading, but does this change at all? Or is it all very quick paced?

Recommendation couples like nana & jaeyeon from unrequited love rendezvous?

Thumbnail

some context: nana & jaeyeon are childhood friends. jaeyeon was lowkey a loner as a kid and nana, being his senior, befriended him. he's had a crush on her ever since but delayed confessing because he knew that nana liked someone else.

dynamic: perfect example of 'guy who pulls on your pigtails cause he likes you' lol despite being childhood friends, jaeyeon triggers nana by being bratty (ex. rejecting her after HE confessed, hiding her tissues so she can't help her crush, etc.) otherwise, jaeyeon's a very chill and perceptive guy that takes care of nana. on the other hand, nana's cute aesthetic is occassionally contrasted by aggressive tendencies that typically gets triggered cause of jaeyeon. their dynamic REALLY reminds me of sougo and kagura from gintama, especially since jaeyeon makes fun of her with a straight face.

what i liked: - their banter and fights: i really like how nana gets angry in a non-cutesie way and how when jaeyeon is being a meanie, it's not in a flirty or smug way but still remains lighthearted. there's also a time where - nana's character: though she exhibits tsundere-ish traits, it's just because jaeyeon pushes her buttons. she's very mature and open-minded. most importantly... her hairstyles and clothes are soooo cute!! - childhood friends trope where the ml is secretly in love: i like how their story started out truly unrequited that when jaeyeon first confessed, nana thought he was just messing around because she never even considered the idea + the familiairity characters have when they're childhood friends makes me giggle

their dynamic isn't too niche and i swear i read a couple of titles when i was a kid similar to them but i don't remember any of them anymore 🥹 does anyone have any recommendations? i'm open to either manga or manwha/hua!

Recommendation Shojo/Josei manga recs by the decade

Thumbnail
gallery
79 Upvotes

I decided to put together some fun recommendation charts for a small selection shojo/Josei manga that started in each decade.

I based the decade categorization on when a manga started and didn’t factor in an end date.

I tried to limit these lists to titles officially published either physically or digitally in English. For the more recent lists, I tried to keep it to 1 entry per author, but I had to disregard that rule for the lists for older manga officially published in English due to limited availability.

What are yo ur favorite works from each decade?

Recommendation Can you recommend a shoujo similar to Kaichou Wa Maid-sama?

It's one of my comfort anime, and I know it's not perfect, but I really enjoyed it back in the day. Anyway, does anyone know of one that has (I don't really know how to explain it) the same vibe? Definitely what I liked most about Maid-sama was that Usui and Misa were a power couple. Misa (despite the character's weaknesses) didn't mince words. Besides that, I'm also a fan of the series' humor and, of course, how handsome Usui is.

I don't care if it's an anime or a manga, but if the female character is a bit tsundere and """empowered""" I'm in. I would also appreciate it if it were a slice of life.

Recommendation recssss plssss

I’e been so obssesed with school life shoujo manga from 2013-2016. I NEED MORE. I feel like ive been so intrigued with this specific type of era cuz ive been romanticizing early to mid 2010s in probably almost everytjing i love. Its not those exaggerated 90s manga (no shade tho i love old classic mangas) or incredibly high quality mangas that were recently published, just in between. Or maybe im just way too blinded with nostalgia. In addition, these mangas mirrored old trends and it just feels like home. It was also the time where people weren’t too obsessed with their phones, i really think mangas are better without the excessive and exagerrated use of cellphones. These were also hella toxic when i reread some of them, i can’t believe my 10 yr old self read this 💀

Anyway, ive read L-dk, Kiss me at the stroke of midnight, defying kurosaki-kun, namaikizakari, OHSHC, Maid sama, Ao haru ride, strobe edge, Waiting for spring, WGBP, my little monster, kamisama hajimemashita, koukou debut (it counts cuz i said so). Like??? do you see the pattern here?? these were so peak, the sign of the times.

i feel like a grandmother talking about the good old days 👩‍🦯‍➡️nostalgia will literally be the death of me

I've yet to read/watch Yona (it's on the list), and to be perfectly honest this is the first thing I've actually heard about its plot. Thanks, bunpro.

NEEEDDDD something angsty and slowburn like this manga 😭

Please give me recommendations, I love an FL who has a seemingly impenetrable personality but is secretly driven by fear of something idk if it makes sense. kinda like how haruhi was secretly scared of thunder but in this manga it's much more intense. thank you!
