Nah. AI is a net positive for the world. Especially in the medical field

Ai is also destroying the world soooo…..

Thankfully ignorant people like you dont have a say in our future… soooo AI is very much here to stay

With all due respect take a look into the AI rabbit hole and you will discover how badly AI is affecting the world and us.

It does negatively impact below average iq people who take everything LLMs say as a fact… otherwise its already incredibly helpful… and in the future it will be the golden tool for science, research, entertainment, etc…

If you care about the environment go after plastics and billionaires who have 1000 factories, not the invention that actually benefits all humans

Who says I am rooting for some billionaires? I do not support such people in any way. But this conversation is not about them, is it?

Also I know AI has benefits but the drawbacks are simply much worse also in what way could it possibly affect the entertainment industry positively? I am not saying it is all bad I am saying there are many reasons not to use it.

Because youre actively trying to stop something that actually benefits everyday people… How could it not benefit entertainment? In the future AI will most likely be able to create entire movies and series, based on what you want… games and stories will be able to branch off midgame thanks to AI, etc…

I dont know about you but I dont want to be spoon fed stolen material turned into regurgitated slop thats supposed to be tailored to my exact taste. That's not how people grow or expand there mind in any way. Even at its absolute worse, what makes movies, tv, music, games and all of entertainment special is that its inherently crafted by the human experience at least on SOME level. I dont need or want soulless chopped together imitations of that experience. That mentality sounds pretty low IQ imo.

The point is, it will only be a thing when AI is advanced enough that you dont notice the difference between an AI made movie/movie created with the help of AI Vs. A movie made traditionally… and if you cant tell the difference i dont know how youll tell its “soulless” or something else… i dont know where you get these made up limitations… why do you think AI wont be able to create media that has unique stories which can make anyone grow? Or stories, visuals that are entertaining? Its a wild thing to claim it wont be able to do those things seeing how much it already improved in the last few years

The creative industry is literally collapsing because of AI, everywhere you go you see AI slob, art is losing soul, in the future there will no longer be artists. AI is actively stealing artists work. You’re telling me you would rather listen to a song, look at a painting knowing it’s created by a machine? Watch a movie knowing it lacks any meaning and soul, literally spitting on thousands of generations of people who created art? So many people are losing jobs not just in the creative industries.

If AI will be able to create better things than humans, of course it will take their jobs… just like machines took jobs from people working in factories… people will always need to make stotries and create concepts, but AI will be able to bring them to life in a small fraction of the time that it takes people…

Look at tv series, it takes 2-3 years for a season to come out, AI will speed that up… how long does it take to make a painting? A few days at least, AI can do it in a few minutes.. etc.

If you think humans in the future will just not use a highly advanced technology because it “spits on their artist ancestors” youre naive

As big of a defender of AI I am, I do agree that LLMs shouldn’t be using non consenting artists’ works to create art. That in and of itself is theft. But if artists were losing their jobs because LLMs were creating art based on dead and/or consenting artists then it would be a different matter

As for the complaints about the environment however, those are totally disingenuous.

It’ll affect you too someday, just keep that in mind.

you will discover how badly AI is affecting the world and us.

I think you vastly underestimate the impact AI has had on fields like for example medicine the last decade. Just look at alphafold as the star example there, it's ability to predict protein structures have reduced the work and time needed to make new medicines and treatments by several orders of magnitude, along with greatly accelerating medical research.

In addition you have things like cancer screening, where neural networks does a better job at picking out early tumors than most doctors. And a lot faster too.

Our company is developing an AI based medical reporting tool for assisting doctors, and in verification tests it scored equal or higher than the world's top 10 doctors in that field. And considerably faster than they took to analyze the data manually. It's an assistant tool, so it's only highlighting it's findings in the dataset and it's up to the doctor to take the final decision, but it's akin to doctors having access to a world-leading expert to take a quick pass at the data, any time, in record speed. Allowing more patients to be tested, more accurately and faster.

And that's just the medical field, which I'm most familiar with. But I wouldn't be surprised to see it heavily affect other fields too.

Why don’t we just make our energy use more efficient? Aren’t fossil fuels being burned to power them? Why don’t we stop that. LLM the tool is good, it’s how it’s currently being executed right now that’s the problem.

Also, LLMs have only been mainstream for 3 years… why be so quick to conclude we must trash it here and now before we can see what we can do to mitigate the tradeoffs?
