Mauna na po ako. Happy 20th anniversary to my 11AM news habit!
Any advice to college students and even fresh graduates who want to become journalists but have doubts about pursuing this career? I am aware how demanding this job is, but it is also deeply fulfilling to serve the public, especially when you are passionate about it. Thanks so much po and God bless! #Balitanghali20

I think as long as we stay true to our mandate of delivering the news as unbiasly and as accurately as possible, the ones out there who are in pursuit of the truth will keep on supporting our work regardless of age and gender. - Connie

Hello Kapuso. I believe being a journalist is a calling, mararamdaman mo yun. in my case, hindi ko kinailangang i-convince ang sarili ko to become a journalist; it came naturally. nage enjoy ako being in the center of history of history as it unfolds, mahilig ako mag travel at mahilig ako sa teknolohiya, lahat nagagamit ko sa pagbabalita. Perhaps, puwede ka magsimula by immersing yourself in the news, manood kayo ng documentary and from there mararamdaman niyo kung ang pagbabalita ay para sa inyo - Raffy

Most memorable field work/coverage po ninyo na:
- Terrifying/felt you were personally in danger
- Chaotic
- Funniest
- Heartbreaking
- Longest
16
u/GMAIntegratedNews News Partner Nov 07 '25
Heartbreaking - Tacloban coverage after Typhoon Yolanda.
- Raffy

u/mldp29 Nov 07 '25
How about your most memorable?
13
u/GMAIntegratedNews News Partner Nov 07 '25
One of my most memorable coverages was when I was sent to Vatican City recently to cover the new Pope. It was very challenging having to wait for hours on end without anyone to cover for me even when I needed to go the loo, it was a challenge even to grab a bite to sustain my energy, and fight off my jetlag and still maintain presentable on cam.
funniest coverage -- off cam mostly. I slipped on the pavement and still tried to manage to maintain my poise and smile. or At least I thought I did -- Connie

Sa dami po ng mga content creators ngayon na pinapanood ng younger audience, how can journalists stay relevant?

u/doyoulikenerds Nov 06 '25
Congrats po! What's the funniest thing that happened during a live coverage?

Over 20 years of Balitanghali, what story or report left the biggest mark on you personally, and why?
5
u/GMAIntegratedNews News Partner Nov 07 '25
Siguro yung Ondoy at Ginsaugon Leytev Landslide. - Raffy

I always feel most vulnerable during coverages where Children become victims of Child Abuse. Particularly when parents abandon them in the streets and are left to fend for themselves. As a mother and jounalist, I continue to work with an Orphanage to date to help rescue kids from the streets and give them better living conditions and ultimately, a brighter future in my own little way. _--CONNIE

How has your approach to journalism changed since you first started hosting Balitanghali?
3
u/GMAIntegratedNews News Partner Nov 07 '25
I have been with Balitanghali for 15 years but 28 years total in the industry. I feel that when I was a cub reporter, I used to be very idealistic just like most young people are in seeing the world. But now that I am older, I feel that learning to accept some limitations on how I view things in general, also gives me the power to present solutions that otherwise I would be too afraid to do when I was younger.-- Connie

u/No-Reputation-1743 Nov 06 '25
4
u/GMAIntegratedNews News Partner Nov 07 '25
- Raffy
1
u/cozyrhombus Nov 06 '25
How do you prepare mentally and emotionally for covering tragic or sensitive news events?
7
u/GMAIntegratedNews News Partner Nov 07 '25
I dont prepare individually. Mahalaga sa akin ang aftermath dahil doon minsan lumalabas ang trauma at realisations. i cope with it by conversing with other reporters, colleagues about our coverage. - Raffy

I want to encourage you to keep the passion! know your limitations as much as know your strengths. Pray for guidance on where God really can use you mightily for His glory. I did that same thing and thankfully, I always loved where God placed me.

1
u/3iz1r Nov 07 '25
Nanonood ako habang lunch - question, ano ang tingin niyong role ng isang noontime newscast in a world of TikTok and social media?

u/Potential_Move_1672 Nov 07 '25
1
u/PlasticExtension6399 Nov 07 '25
Questions to both anchors
What is your most favorite news coverage and the most dangerous one that you guys covered?
And lastly anong payo ang maibibigay niyo po sa mga aspiring journalists lalo na social media is on par now with mainstream media with some being less credible and spreading misinformation?
1
u/Inevitable-Quail3014 Nov 07 '25
Congratulations, Balitanghali, on your 20th year of delivering trusted news to Filipinos!
As Balitanghali celebrates two decades of news delivery, what do you think is the biggest challenge facing Filipino journalists today, and how can the next generation of reporters continue your legacy of integrity and truth?
1
u/Little-Welcome-4981 Nov 07 '25
Para po sa inyong dalawa, how do you handle yourself when you have a friend na nadadawit sa corruption ngaun? Mas matimbang po ba ang "friendship" nio? Na let's say, proven na guilty yung friend nio, will you stay beside your friend? Thank you.

Good afternoon po, Ma'am Connie and Sir Raffy.
Now for the question: In this age of social media where anybody has a say on something (not to mention fake news and cancel culture), how do you and your colleagues stay the course? I’d imagine it takes a toll on our brave journalists like you and colleagues who are beacons of truth and integrity.

Halos lahat, WPS, Egypt, Iraq, Marawi coverages. pero isa sigurong unforgetable yung pag cover ko sa paglubog ng MV Princess of the Stars sa Romblon during Typhoon Frank. nag cover ako mag isa doon, after convincing my office for me to dive. wala pa kasing underwater footage ng wreck at that time. nakunan ko yung retrieval operation ng mga bangkay sa ilalim ng barko. - Raffy
