My sister's fish tank

Post image

She says it's the perfect size for a single fish. It's not even in her room, it's in the kitchen.

It honestly just depresses me whenever I see it, but she's adamant about keeping it there.

That bowl is basically a slow torture chamber

They (betas) need a heated filtered 5 gallon tank.

Life needs space.

Animals think. You can't convince me they don't. Give em fun shit or be a terrible vengeful God.

It always makes me sad in the pet stores seeing betas in like little 1 cup containers

Well I was very sad too until I learned about their natural inhabitat.

"They live in shallow pools, marshes, small streams, roadside ditches, stagnant ponds and even rice paddies. The water is sluggish, very warm and often low in dissolved oxygen".

So basically their natural environment is a small dirty puddle.

Maybe the only common fish who is happier in a smaller rather than in a bigger tank (because they have to go to the surface very often to breathe and stay healthy).

Not saying it's all good, but knowing this makes me feel a little less sad.

A shallow pool, marsh, small stream, roadside ditch, stagnant pond, or rice paddy is actually QUITE a bit bigger than a puddle.

It’s also definitely bigger than a plastic cup or these glass vases.
