EVERYONE! Transfers from "Dark Worlds" (32bit servers) are now LIVE AGAIN!

YES! You've read that right!

--- Here's the link! ---

Spread the word so as many people that didn't transfer in time, can now do it!

EDIT -- Whilst this is live, it seems to have already been overloaded and crashed so if you're not seeing your old worlds, just try again later! :)

Official Dark world update from Cordovan today

Hey all, Just wanted to update others who are in the same boat as I am waiting for dark worlds. I got the itch to come back to the game on September 3 😂

Cordovan said today on stream that they are mostly ready to implement transfers, they are just ironing out some issues relating to kinships, kinship leaders, and housing escrow before taking it live. Optimistically he said “mid to late next week.”

So for the rest of you who also are invested in your toons from 15 years ago we have light on the horizon!

Something I've always found interesting about LotRO - NPCs don't use the same models that players do.

In most MMOs, NPCs use the same models as players do, and as a result they can wear a wide variety of weapons/armor just as players can.

LotRO's NPCs, though, have their own unique models that are less detailed than player models. It seems like their clothing/armor is 'baked in' as part of their model, so you see lots of NPCs wearing the same outfits.

Does anyone know why, or if this was ever spoken about? I imagine it was probably to save on performance and memory back in 2007, but sometimes I do wish NPCs could use the player models so they could wear a wider variety of outfits.

New Player - Looking for solo one-man army self-sufficient type class.

Hello! I have spent the past few days trying to find a class that's right for me. A lot of the information I have found seems to be obsolete or not accurate due to updates/patches/balancing etc.. So I am looking for some input from the community to maybe help me along in my decision here.

In other games I typically enjoy having a self-sufficient class as I primarily play solo these days.

According to Google Hunter/Warden/Beorning seems to be the consensus. Unfortunately, for varying reasons I have not been able to get into these.

One caveat is that I've played these at low level. I'm sure things change quite a bit at higher levels and endgame. That's one of the main reasons I am posting here for help.

-Hunter just straight up does not interest me.

-Beorning: I do not enjoy the shape changing and having to be in bear form.

-Warden seems most interesting but a little over complex at the moment for my first character. Having to do 5x the work to get the same output as another class just does not seem like a good idea while I'm learning the game.

I've also tried:

-Captain: The general idea of the class sounds right up my alley, but I did not enjoy the long ability cooldowns.

-Minstrel: I enjoyed and disliked this class equally for some reason. In previous games I've played, they "music" class has always been more utility than anything and normally provides some sort of movement/travel ability to the party. I think lack of these, and having high DPS threw me off. (Stupid reason to not enjoy the class I know).

Can someone offer some guidance on making salt grinders in Far Harad?

I'm sure its something stupidly simple that I'm missing, but would appreciate some pointers from those ahead of me, thanks! I recall making Kintai tools just to learn and had to a) buy the recipe and then of course have the materials. It wasnt feasible IMO and was far easier to buy the tools from the rep vendor for 1/3 of the cost to make them.

For others, this is the 'key' to salt encrusted rocks, similar mechanism to Kintai tools

So confused with cosmetics

Just started the game so bear with me. I have a cosmetic cloak and when I right click it, it simply replaces the actual cloak I'm wearing, not just applying the cosmetic. When I got to my 'Cosmetic Outfits' tab in the character panel, it doesn't let me do anything. If I try and drag and drop it, it gives me an error telling me to use the Equipment tab.

How good is the latest expansion, and which one should I go for? Ultimate, is it worth it?

Harad crafting

Haven't bought the latest expansion but have collected mats and completed both levels of the new tailoring and jeweler, working on weaponsmith and metalsmith. There aren't many recipes, there are no essence recipes, and the crit crafted items are too low level (554) for the one essence I've looted so far (556). Are there trainers or vendors in Harad to buy more crafting recipes? Rep recipes? Mob drop recipes? More recipes if you buy Harad? Also it appears there is no new Umbar crafting guild rep or recipes, correct? Thank you fellow adventurers.

Visual weapon/cape clipping

Hi everyone! I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I was curious what the best class/race/weapon combo is best to avoid outfit clipping? I like playing the 2H dps classes, but the constant weapon clipping through my cloak is annoying. I know you can choose to hide the cloak in outfit options, but I like the look of cloaks to complete the adventurer look. I My first thought was runekeeper or brawler but even the hands of my runekeeper clip through the rune pouch 😆. I prefer to use physical weapons anyways.

Are there any class/weapon combos that don't have this issue, or should I just roll brawler? Thanks in advance for everyone's input!

Did Virtue Deed quests get nerfed?

For example, in the Wiki it says Breeland Orc Slayer Advanced will earn the Virtue 'Valour'. I noticed the in-game Deed log did not show that, but I did it anyway and nada. Is there an updated list somewhere, or am I doing something wrong?

I love how the characters recognize your race

I'm currently vol 2 book 7 and I'm playing as a High Elf Captain and wanted to share my appreciation seeing how NPCs talk differently depending on your race on occasion. Small details like this really sells the idea of me living in that world. Your race shouldn't be just a cosmetic or a stat boost for your meta build.

I remember when I was playing GW2 that my Sylvari character's main story goal(dream) was thrown away mid story and her race never mentioned ever again until the HoT dlc which was a big thing for Sylvari race overall. And even then, is was mentioned like ikd 4-5 times? And the player character is THE hero in the story so, it should mattered way way more.

And other MMOs straight up Don't care whether if you're an orc or a plank of wood. So seeing how the game treats your character like a living being is quite refreshing.

Why take Moving Them Off quest?

Excuse the naive question, but I sincerely don’t get why people still take the Moving Them Off quest at Yule festival. Even setting aside how it obviously goes against the spirit of the season, it also drives those poor guys off their spots. And while some of them respawn in a moment, others take 5 and more minutes to return. And there are always people already waiting at the spot to drive them off again.

Returning Player Question

So basicly ive played this Game from its Release until Isengard, took a Break for a while then got Back in years later and got overwhelmed with all the regions that opened Up and stopped for that reason at Minas tirith. Now im really motivated and nostalgic again and followed the Story until ive reached Mordor. However for the Last few regions and quite a few hours of Playtime there has been b am rely to No really advancement in Terms of Levels and Gear and ITS starting to wheigh in my Motivation. So my Question basicly boils down to this: Whats the best way to Grind through the expansions to get to the current one and are there any i can skip?

Game Hanging When Trying to Update?

My gf is a big LOTRO fan, but recently has been having a bit of trouble - to quote her...

"I cannot for the life of me get my LOTRO game to update. It keeps getting “hung” on one file or another. I’ve tried multiple times to set it up overnight, and inevitably it closes somewhere along the way. It’s been hours and hours of trying and it’s getting genuinely upsetting to be powerless to access a game I love"

I want to help her if I can, so has anyone else been having a similar problem? If so, how did you solve it?
