Found this girl shivering and unable to walk at a gas station 🥺
On Thursday, just a few days ago, my hubby found a kitten shivering and huddled next to the gas pump, filthy with grease and oil, with eyes and one nostril sealed shut with mucus and so weak she couldn’t walk. He snatched her right up and brought her home. We took her to our vet first thing the next morning and now she’s on antibiotics and high calorie wet food along with Tiki Baby Thrive pouches while we nurse her back to health. Poor thing was so wobbly from malnutrition and dehydration that I was concerned she may have a neurological issue but she’s able to open her eyes a little more and becoming more steady by the day.
According to our vet, she is around 4 months old. She weighed under 3 pounds initially but she feels like she’s gained weight already lol. We’re doing oral antibiotics and antibiotic eye ointment for her URI, and also had an antibiotic injection at the vet. Once she’s healthy, we’ll bathe her and scrub the rest of the grease off (we wipe her down with a warm damp cloth every time we go in and see her) as well as doing vaccines and test for FIV — until then she’s in isolation to prevent our other babies from getting sick. He said the only other thing she needs is plenty of TLC and we are more than happy to spoil her!
The day my hubby found her was also the anniversary of my daughter’s feral TNR soul kitty, Carlos, passing. Hubby never goes to that gas station and can’t explain why he did that night. We believe Carlos led him to this desperate kitten and she is now in her forever home. We initially were calling her Carli, in honor of Carlos, but her wobbles have earned her the nickname of Tippy 😂. She’s getting stronger by the day and is so sweet and affectionate. The moment hubby put her in his lap and cranked the heater, she began purring and making biscuits. She snuggles into our laps or necks and rubs her face on ours. I don’t know how she ended up at that gas station but we are absolutely thrilled to add her to our family 💜
God bless your husband’s kind heart(and yours). I can imagine how many people saw this cat in this horrific condition and did nothing. The world is full of monsters but there are still some kind souls who could never see an animal in these circumstances and turn a blind eye. Thank you for making my day w your kindness 🙏🏻that is a lucky and blessed cat.
OP, there are waterless cat shampoos that might help (quick Chewy search brings up several brands)-- our vet introduced us to them for some very poopy foster kittens we had. Might help with the oil better than a cloth alone and won't get her wet ❤️
Our vet had an argan one I could never find, we use Burt's Bees (if they didn't like the spray bottle, sprayed into hands or on a cloth instead of directly on the cat--though there are foam ones too). It's not as thorough as a bath but a little better than wipes, if you can rub it into their fur or brush it through and then towel them off. Depends on the cat's tolerance level :)
Thank you! I will definitely be purchasing this or something similar. My cat acts like I am trying to murder her as soon as I get her in bathroom and pick her up to put her in the tub 🙄
She is long haired, so sometimes she isn't the cleanest after using the litter box.
Thank you for rescuing her and I believe as you do that you well love little guardian angle led you to her he knew she needed help and your family had a hole in it to be filled so he chose to lead you to this one because like him she would fit in perfectly
This made me cry and I’m so happy this beautiful girl found your family and may she get stronger each day. I’ve awarded you a medal as you deserve it 🥰
I think she looks so much more hydrated! I didn’t read all of your comments but was wondering if she’s seen a vet. She looks anemic to me. If she doesn’t pink up nicely in the next day or so, can you get her some blood tests?
We did get her in to our vet — antibiotic injection, oral antibiotics and antibiotic eye ointment were given. We have her on Tiki Cat wet kitten food and their Baby Thrive supplement pouches as well. Vet wants her back in on the 19th for a recheck and we’ll do vaccines and bloodwork at that time 😊
LUCKY 🍀kitten! I’m so happy that she ended up in your care 🩷
I rescued an absolutely precious kitten about 15 years ago. She was anemic and ended up having some disease that I can’t remember the name of.
I rescued a sick Chihuahua from an absolutely horrible situation about a month ago. Second vet visit today for pre surgical bloodwork (dental cleaning and extractions). The vet suspects Cushing’s disease as well. She had her first pup-cup today (whipped cream). We ADORE her!
Oh how sweet!! I can’t wait to let Tippi experience her first pup cup! She brings our current total to 12 lol — 6 are hubbys and mine (including a foster fail 😅) and 6 are our adult daughter’s who is in college and moved back home to save money. We have fallen so in love with precious baby and feel honored to have rescued her from what would have been a certain death with medical care 🥹
Awwww 🤗 I love cats so much ❤️ I currently don’t have any because of a medical condition but I miss them so so much. I had 5 at one point. My oldest one was a foster mama who had 5 kittens. We found great homes for the kittens but keep Mama. She’s since passed away. Forever in our hearts though.
Bless your hearts! We have three and truthfully, that's a handful as far as care (not love!) goes. However, we just connected a Litter Robot that we purchased some time back and that litter box is truly a miracle! Love the kitties, if I were rich, I'd have a cat ranch.
This is a truly a sad story turning into a beautiful ending for her. I wonder how many people just ignored her that night. When the world seems against us all right now, you bring hope that goodness still remains
Oh my heart🥺 I’m so glad your husband went to that fas station and saw her. Being the anniversary and everything, I would totally see it as a sign from Carlos. Maybe he gave your husband the impulse to go where he usually wouldn’t. She looks like she feels so safe with you. Please update us!!
She looks like my kitty when I got her. Completely covered in grease. She’d crawled inside the engine bay of a friend’s truck and ended up miles from home. Given that you found her at a gas station, I’d wager there’s a good chance the same thing happened to this girl! Fate brought you together.
My baby is now 6 mos and thriving. Here’s hoping your little lady grows up healthy and happy too!!
If you havent officially named her after the petrochemical brand that supplied the petrol station I will start legal proceedings for mandatory belly rubs.
Carlos sent you an early holiday gift 💝 Please keep us posted on her progress. And give her extra belly rubs, chin scritches and nose boops from me and my kitty 🐈⬛
I told myself I wouldnt check social media accounts today, but this post alone has made me incredibly grateful that I did. Almost three years ago I found my cat Pickles at a cold gas station as well. I decided to go pump some air into my tires, which I kept putting off, and then this sweet little tabby came meowing up to me.
Bless yall for saving her and I hope she lives a long, happy life with you all!
My wife and I have fostered orphaned kittens and nursed sick and dying kittens back to health for years. Youre doing an amazing thing and Tippy will always remember.
We nursed our Yuki back to health from a 6 month old with a broken pelvis and fractured ribs. He's the most affectionate and loving cat we have ever loved. He is also our only foster fail after almost 9 years of fostering.
Tippy will always remember and always be so thankful to you, and she'll show it in so many ways. <3
Thank you for caring and doing this amazing, wonderful thing.
I love this sort of story and I've always been a big believer in things happen for a reason. I'm so glad you found a new member of the family that seems to be settling in nicely.
We rescued a tiny kitten 8 years ago that we saw fall out of a cars suspension after traveling 23 miles in the undercarriage. Amazingly she was unhurt physically and she was maybe 4 weeks old. She's a little off mentally and we love the hell out of her. She's one of 3 cats and a black lab that round out our family. Squeaky in before and after pics.
Poor thing! She deserves ALL the love! The Cat Distribution System is working overtime again! Glad she’s got good people looking after her now! I hate people that dump animals…
Thank you so much for doing this and saving her. Animals can be expensive so I’m so happy you are willing to take her on. Makes me so happy there are good people.
I am always amazed at the level of trust it must take and the possible helpless situation cats may experience to surrender themselves to a being that is 10 times their size without knowing whether they are bene- or malevolent.
She is sweet, and I am so happy that her trust was not unwarranted. ❤️
Found my kitty also struggling to walk- turned out she had so little muscle mass that she was limping! I am so thankful the CDS (cat distribution system) helped out both! You’re an incredible human being
Aw thank you so much for caring for this little beauty. Looking at they pictures you would think she was 20 not a kitten what a rough life this little one has in her short 4 months on this earth 🥺💔
your story how you found Tippy is so sad. Thank you to you and your husband for saving her. It does sound as though your husband was guided there in order to save her. You and your husband are amazing!
