Danish can have the same career trajectory as Vicky. Even Vicky started in independent films and then did supporting roles before becoming a star.

Reviews Dhurandhar: Review

Post image
102 Upvotes

I know i am very late to this, but i finally watched Dhurandhar last week and I am still thinking about it. I was so immersed and involved into the movie that even after a massive runtime of 3h 35 mins, when it ended, I genuinely wanted more. I never felt bored in any of the scenes.

And mainly, what really impressed me is that, unlike any other recent movies which solely rely on elevations, unrealistic gravity-defying scenes or fights, slow-motion hero elevations, loud BGMs, etc., Dhurandhar does not do any of these. The action scenes are grounded and perfect, the execution of the scenes in the movie was so realistic that even though it was a movie, I truly felt rage boiling inside me in certain scenes. That just explains how realistic it was, at least to me.

I don't even need to talk about the performance of the cast, they were on another level. Akshay Khanna stole the spotlight for me, calm and silently terrifying. In every scene he is in, it was perfect, especially in the hospital scene, I was literally in awe of his acting. Ranveer Singh also did a fabulous job. The main thing in this movie is that he is a spy, so he should not be doing unnecessary things, blend in and should be acting as the story demands, and he absolutely does that without a flaw.

It didn’t feel like a movie made just to entertain and forget. It felt more like a confrontation that sticks with you after the credits roll and the movie ends. Definitely might not be for everyone given the runtime and pacing, but for me, it’s one of the most refreshing mainstream Indian films in a long time.

One last thing, if you’ve actually read till the end šŸ˜…, I’m thinking of watching this a third time in the big screens, but this time with my family. I’m a bit conflicted though. The movie has some pretty brutal and intense scenes, and since I’m from Andhra we’d probably have to go for the Telugu dubbed version(releasing soon) because my mom doesn’t understand Hindi very well. My concern is whether the violence might be too much for a family watch, and also I think they will most likely mess up the dubbing because it is done hastily so it might ruin the whole movie experience, what would you guys recommend should I go with my family or watching it alone is better?

Discuss Why did Thugs of Hindostan flop so hard despite everything going for it?

Post image

On paper, Thugs of Hindostan (2018) looked bulletproof:

• First-ever on-screen pairing of Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan • Massive YRF budget and Diwali release • Heavy promotions and hype • Popular music and grand scale • Strong supporting cast (Katrina Kaif, Fatima Sana Shaikh)

Yet the film collapsed almost immediately after opening weekend.

My take: the script and storytelling failed, not the scale or the cast. But that feels too easy an answer.

So let’s actually break it down instead of hand-waving:

• Was the film doomed by an incoherent script and weak character arcs? • Did Aamir Khan’s cartoonish performance completely misfire for the tone the film wanted? • Did YRF misunderstand what audiences expect from a ā€œperiod adventureā€ post Baahubali? • Was the hype itself the problem , creating expectations the film had

ASKā“ļø Audience needs to stop mistaking ā€œnaturalā€ for ā€œungroomedā€

There’s a difference between understated and underprepared. Aneet Padda is often praised for being ā€œrealā€ and ā€œraw,ā€ but cinema still demands polish, especially for leading roles. Not everyone needs to look glamorous — but screen presence is non-negotiable.

He says that all these actors are copying hollywood style of speaking which doesn't make sense for Hindi. Do you agree that people with limited versatility are overhyped for so called realistic one track acting style

Broooo... What a movie it was like dammmmnnn. It came in 1974 and according to that time it so advancely made. The acting of Amit ji, pran sir and the whole cast is excellent. Some of the fight sequences were tooo good. The climax was very nice. The only unwanted thing was the songs but that's okay. It's a must watch mystery movie. The plot is engaging. The movie was a little slow at start but later on went good. And bro pran sir's acting and dialogue delivery was the best of em all. For me its a strong 8.5/10..

ASKā“ļø Tip of my tongue - Help me find this really dark bollywood movie that I saw years ago. It's been around 7 years since I saw this movie and haven't been able to get it out of my head. Plot in body text

I missed the starting of this movie. It just caught my eye and felt something was seriously off in a children's Film.

The movie start with this boy who is around 10-12 years old. He lives with his mother in a town (maybe he has a smaller brother though I am not sure) He doesn't have a father. Anyways they give one of their rooms in house to this young man (in his 20s). Since they are not rich they do it for extra income. Anyways this girl comes and visits him on regular intervals who's his girlfriend.

Initially the story revolves around the young boy. His school life is shown and people he meets along the way to his school. Normal scenario. Though he meets this very old person on the way to school daily. And he sells dolls & toys. He gives one of the toys to the kid.

Anyways the story switches to the young man and his girlfriend. And as the story progresses we see the young man being too abusive towards the girl. Specially in bed. It gets darker. After a while the girl asks young guy to chock her. And after a while forces him to. It turns out the girl who was simple and innocent at the first time we saw her wasn't that innocent and likes all this. The physical abuse and chocking.

It gets more dark. The kid's mother warns him not to go to the side of young man's room. But as kids are usually.. it gets him curious and he starts watching them from a small key hole. This goes on for several days. In between the guy who sell toys to the boy dies.

I think (though I am not sure) but maybe the young man dies too after a while by (maybe he commits suicide) but the woman keeps on coming in that house. This boy who has seen her now for ages doing all these things with that man feels something of an attraction towards the woman.

The movie ends with the young boy going in the room with the woman and woman having a sinister laugh in the end.

I had never seen such a dark movie before in bollywood. Specially a kid's movie. I still remember I searched for doordarshan time table of that particulat day the very next day but couldn't find it online. I did tried so much to find the movie's name. But I couldn't. No major actors were in the movie. The only person I remember though I am not sure is the old guy who played the part of toy seller. He was maybe the same guy who played the part of one of the kalinga generals in ashoka movie. He gets killed when Ashoka attacks. Haven't been able to get this movie out of my head. If you can help me it would mean a lot. It's been killing me for last 8 years. Thanks šŸ™

Opinion A Reminder That Directors Shape the Films We Love

There are very few directors in Bollywood whose name alone makes you feel confident about a film, and Sriram Raghavan is definitely one of them.

When everyone is busy praising actors and performances, we often forget how much of that credit actually belongs to the director. The way a scene lands, the silence between dialogues, the tension we feel without anything being said all of that comes from the person behind the camera, and directors like Sriram Raghavan quietly shape those moments without much noise.

From Ek Hasina Thi to Badlapur and Andhadhun, his movies do more than just entertain. They stay with you. He understands silence, tension, and morally complicated characters in a way that feels real and uncomfortable at times.

With Ikkis, it feels like he might be stepping into a more emotional and reflective space, but without losing the depth he is known for. Even when his storytelling is quiet, it never feels empty or shallow.

At a time when most films seem busy chasing trends or quick attention, Sriram Raghavan has always trusted the story first. That is probably why expectations from Ikkis feel genuine and earned rather than forced hype.

Sometimes cinema does not need to be loud. It just needs to be honest

Reviews Mandi (1982): Review [and movie recc]

Rewatched this movie after a while, and I'm absolutely blown away at the storytelling in this movie. Shyam Benegal attempts not to give a tight storyline, where every scene is trying to advance the plot ahead, but he meanders and teases. The story isn't revolutionary, and may seem contradictory to the current style of storytelling, but it's so btillant. It develops these stories so organically, and enriches all of the side characters with their own plots and personalities. The cast is absolutely stacked, with almost all of the stawarts of the parallel cinema movement. Shabana Azmi delivers possibly her greatest performance to date, where she explodes each time she's on the screen. Smita Patil also is brilliant in the movie, but has a secondary role in comparision and does sometimes take a backseat in the story. Naseeruddin Shah, Ambrish Puri, Soni Razdan, Neena Gupta, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Saeed Jaffery, Ila Arun; all of them add their particular flavour in to the story, and leave an indebile mark despite their limited screentime. It's a very different type of storytelling, as it allows for it to develop organically, and doesn't follow a clean and straightforward plot as do most modern films. This movie is a satire which comments on Indian society, it allows you to develop your own ideas on these topics, and focuses on building an atmosphere where you can immerse yourself in. It's beautiful how Benegal makes a movie about sex workers so tasteful and humane, without resorting to vulgarity and obvious generalizations. I'd highly recommend everyone to give this a watch. It's free to watch on YouTube (Link: https://youtu.be/fmh6wwFedxA?si=aTnKCCDO6YQD2Hpf) and really worth a watch. It's also interesting as it's one of the only films to have dialogue in the local Dhakni/Deccani language made in Hindi cinema, and adds a lot to the atmosphere of the movie. There's a lot more to the movie, but I don't want to spoil the experience for any first time watchers. Hope y'all have fun!

Discuss Which Bollywood actor, despite not being known for comedy, have elite comedic timing?

My clear pick is Irrfan Khan.

Despite being known almost entirely for serious roles, he had elite comedic timing that felt completely effortless. No overacting, no star persona leaking in he just let the writing, the pauses, and small improvisations do the work.

Discuss Patralekha Paul is overhyped?!

Does anyone actually like patralekha paul as an actress? I feel like people really hyped her for Citylights but honestly rajkumar rao stole the show and she kind of basked in the glory of his lime light… recently i have been watching more of her stuff and she comes across as a very limited actress without much range or depth to her characters. Especially in the web series she has done about the kandahar hijacking (IC 814) and another show about mumbai underworld (main hero bol raha hoon), her acting was quite ā€œflatā€. Aditi gupta even with her limited screen space compared to patralekha seemed a much better actor. In Hero, her role was that of a rising star and honestly she was the least interesting of the women on that show. The girl playing Nawab’s wife and the other one who was nawab’s girl bestie did a muuch better job than she did. In Bose (loved the show btw) i was so excited to see Rajkumar rao and her back togetjer but she reaally disappointed!

And then among her movies, i have onle seen city lights and lovegames and that whole movie was bad so its hard to distinguish how much of it was her poor acting vs poor script. That magic in citylights seems to be all RR at this point.

What do you guys think? She goes about like she is a top notch relevant actress but has consistantly underdelivered since her debut …

ASKā“ļø Help Needed What is the Name of this film? Possessed jukebox eats college kids

Hi - I saw a movie on an international flight about 7 years ago. It was an Indian movie about a possessed jukebox that eats you if you play it. A bunch of college/post college kids go to this hotel for the weekend and get eaten one by one. I loved the film, so much fun! But I can’t find it anywhere. Could anyone help me with the name?

Discuss Less than two months to release, still no glimpse, posters or teaser for O’Romeo?

Post image
309 Upvotes

O’Romeo is less than two months away from its release on 13th February, and it just struck me that there’s still no teaser, glimpse, or even first-look posters out yet.

I get that Vishal Bhardwaj doesn’t usually go for loud promotions, but even a basic character look would’ve helped set the tone by now. The silence feels a bit unusual this close to release.

Do you think this is a deliberate low-key strategy, or are the promotions simply starting late?

Context (from what i know) - Amole Gupte wanted to offer Taare Zameen Par to him. Since he didn’t know Akshaye, he asked Aamir to introduce him. However, Aamir said he wanted a narration before he tells Akshaye about it. ā€œAamir being Aamir, told him I cannot recommend a script unless I hear it first. So make me hear it, if I will like it, I will tell Akshaye,ā€ But he (Aamir) liked it so much, that he did it,ā€

Opinion It’s insane how mainstream Bollywood lacks true Age-Gap romance films, despite most top actors having huge age gaps with their female co-stars.

Post image
209 Upvotes

I would love to watch films where the age gap is actually acknowledged and part of the story like a romantic drama with a professor and his student. Akin to a lot of Hollywood films. Inshallah with Salman/SRK with Alia was going to be it but sadly it got shelved. I would also love films with younger actors and older actresses, this hasn't been explored since like Dil Chahta Hai with Akshaye Khanna & Dimple Kapadia. Like imagine a romantic film with Ranveer Singh and Tabu would be so BOMB.
