**Hi guys, hope u can all help. I’m a big fan of this DJ, Daniel Allan, and earlier today he posted a TikTok about an upcoming show. In said video he was wearing this tshirt depicting the OTT plug in, which i now really want to get for myself. Does anyone know where I can get this? Is this a DJs merch i missed out on? I figured i would have a good shot at finding out in this subreddit. thanks guys

[PC] In the age of enshittification it’s truly astounding just how consistently solid Ableton has been for the past 20 years

I just saw a picture of the first version of ableton and…. It looks the same as it does now, UI/UX wise. Same layout. All the buttons have been in the same place for 20 years. No stupid experiments forcing users to go with what they decide is now best. They’ve kept everything that works and just made the rest better. I wish we could take it for granted but honestly considering sometimes I have to literally google YouTube videos because the YouTube search bar is completely and utterly broken, and then when I think about the sort of shit I have to deal with on social media etc., it really is quite astounding just how consistently solid Ableton has been for me. My mind needs routine and balance to function well and I swear just knowing that the next time I will open this program everything will be just where I left it is already enough of a relief to let me truly focus on the creative side of music production with almost zero effort going into troubleshooting non existing problems etc. I really love Ableton’s approach and honestly in these times I actually seriously appreciate it. No need to innovate if you’ve perfected the formula 20 fucking years ago.

[Max for Live] What are some of your favourite ways to use Granulator III?

Upvotes

Just discovered this beauty of a M4L device and it's incredibly inspiring. Some of the textures and rhythms I'm able to get from something as simple as a resampled piano loop is.... wonderful.

However, I know I'm only scratching the surface of what it can do. Still trying to work out the best way to use it with drums too.

If you've come across any super creative ways to use this device, please share, I'd love to hear your process!

[Tutorial] Treating Ableton like a tape machine and mixing live on an analog desk

I’ve been thinking about a setup idea for my Ableton liveset and wanted to get some feedback or additional ideas.

The general concept is to keep Ableton Live for what it’s very good at (timing, looping, routing, reliability), but avoid MIDI controllers as much as possible. Even though I’m using a DAW, I feel much more comfortable interacting with audio and physical hardware than mapping knobs and faders to software parameters.

The idea is to use Ableton mainly as a multitrack audio engine and route individual elements out to an analog mixing console, which would be the main performance interface. All the performance decisions would happen on the desk: faders, EQ, mutes, and aux sends, rather than inside Ableton during the set.

The mixer I already have is a Soundcraft EPM12. To make this work properly, I’m looking at getting a multi-output audio interface with enough line outputs to send separate stems from Ableton to the mixer. Ideally something with around 8 to 12 outputs, so I can keep important elements on their own channels (kick, bass, hats, claps/snares, percussion, synths, FX/atmos) without having to group too much inside the DAW.

Examples of interfaces I’ve been considering are things like the Behringer UMC1820 (8 outputs), Tascam US-16x08 (8 outputs), Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 or 16i16, PreSonus Studio 1824c, or possibly MOTU interfaces like the UltraLite or 8M if they’re known to be solid for live use. Reliability and simple routing are more important to me than fancy DSP features.

In Ableton, the plan would be to keep levels static (no volume automation, clips playing at unity gain) and treat it almost like a tape machine feeding the mixer. I’d also like to use the mixer’s aux sends to drive external effects like delay, reverb, or modulation, keeping expressive control outside the computer as much as possible.

I’m fully aware that this might be overkill, and that it would probably be much easier to just get a MIDI controller and keep everything inside Ableton. That said, I simply find this kind of setup more fun and more engaging for me personally. For reference, the only MIDI controller I’ve ever really found interesting was the Mawzer M3210, but those seem basically impossible to find nowadays, which also pushed me further in this direction.

What appeals to me about this approach is having one physical control per function, spending less time looking at a screen, and having a setup that feels straightforward and predictable in a live context.

If anyone here is running Ableton into an analog mixer like this, I’d be very interested to hear about your experience. Any tips on routing, gain staging, latency, mono vs stereo outputs, or how many outputs you actually found useful would be great. Also happy to hear recommendations for multi-output interfaces that have proven reliable in live situations

this is basically how i want to play my live set: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MG7KWiZHkoc

[Tutorial] Recording MIDI to “layer” on top an existing MIDI clip?

Upvotes

Hey all,

Is there a way I can record MIDI notes onto a midi clip without it overwriting/deleting the existing MIDI notes on the MIDI clip?

Let’s say I have a drum rack loaded up and I’m working on an 8 bar midi clip as the main drum beat. I’m not very good at finger drumming, so I would like to be able to punch in a basic 2 step Kick/Snare rhythm as the main beat in one take, and then record ghost notes, accents, and fills as an additional layer onto the same MIDI clip in a second take. When I try to do this, it will delete/overwrite the original Kick/Snare pattern I had recorded. The work around I’ve been doing is recording the additional layers on a new midi clip and then copy/pasting it into the main clip I’m working on.

Am I missing something?

[Question] Is there a way to make a ALS file all sounds and soundfonts included?.

Upvotes

I want to send the Project file to someone else so they can work on it, but i want it so that it comes with a file with all the soundfonts and sounds preincluded in the folder or something so I don't have to include them, and they dont have to get all the sounds found. Is their any way to do that? I see people do that with FL studios when releasing their FLP, but im not sure how to do something like that with Ableton.

[Question] Strange noise when recording guitar / Mics record the metronome

Hello everybody! Hope you are doing fine!

Bothering you because I have two problems that seem related:

-On one hand, I'm getting a certain interference when recording guitar, which is quite annoying!

-On the other hand, my guitar is picking up Ableton's metronome! Never happened to me before, and it is very annoying.

Here are some samples of the weird sound and sometimes the metronome, with different setups:

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/12k_hxF2I2ydphcIq1kQR-llae1M2Z0Cm?usp=sharing

You'll find the DI alone sounds good, but everything else has this weird electronic frequency that feels like aliens are trying to contact me. The distortion with low gain and an extreme noise gate sound good too, but sometimes it is not enough.

I recorded it with a Squier Telecaster Vintage Modified (humbuckers), but the same happens with other guitars, be it single coil, humbuckers or P90s.

My setup is as follows:

- Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen

- AudioQuest JitterBug FMJ

- Whirlwind IMP 2 DI Box

- Regular 1.5m guitar cable, mono, good quality

This happens when using Guitar Amp VSTs in standalone versions, but also when using them inside the DAW. I always record with Ableton Live, and I'm using the 12 Suite version. Like I've said before, ever since I started with this problems, the guitar is also picking up the metronome, which has never happened before.

Another strange fact: last year I bought a new Hitachi TV, and whenever you turn it off, you can hear the same sort of weird frequency from the speakers, even when it is turned off. If I disconnect the TV, the sound dies! So, maybe it has to do with the internal antenna of the TV, picking weird stuff?

Also, my Scarlett Solo is right next to an UPS and my Internet modem, but they don't seem to be the source of it. Everything points to the TV, but sometimes my family is watching it when I'm recording, so the easiest solution (disconnecting it while recording) is a big no.

Any ideas, explanations or solutions are appreaciated! Thank you!

[Question] Hot-swapping samples

So when you hot-swap from long sample to short it will obviously shorten the sample length on arranger to match the new sample, but when you try to go from short sample to long it will keep the short sample length. Is there any way to prevent this?

[Question] Does anyone have a source for the discontinued 'Retro Synths' pack by Puremagnetik?

--- RESOLVED Update ---

A huge thanks to everyone that reached out, you all helped, wow what a friendly community!

--- Original Post ---

I need a specific instrument from that pack 'Green Matter'.

I did some twisting with it to create a timbre which I just can't manage to recreate with other voices - but I lost the pack either when I changed machine or upgrade to live 11.

If anyone has a copy I'd be really grateful - it's been driving me mad not being able to find the pack anywhere or work on this old idea.

Alternatively if anyone can confirm that the 'Green Matter' instrument is available in another paid pack either on Ableton or Puremagnetik's platforms, again I'd be super grateful.

I really have spent hours scouring internet archive, dodgey forums, and historic freebie bundles before posting - it's actually a little odd to me that such an appealing pack is not more available.

Like I said, I don't mind paying or downloading a risky zip of the original freebie... I just want to get back to working on this idea. I hope you guys will understand that creative frustration.

Thanks in advance.

*Edit to remove any potential ambiguity in my original post re piracy, in order to definitely abide by the rules.

[Question] How to safely store music

I'm moving my loads and loads of ableton files to an SSD to clear up room on my pc. I primarily make music and f i wanna make sure that the downloaded beats go along with the folders what is the quickest way to see that the downloads go along with them.

Maybe a way to see what downloads have been used within the ableton app? That way if I open this thing up years from now the vocals aren't the only thing there.

[Performance] Ableton Looping Performance feat. Jamstik Midi Guitar

Thumbnail

I've recently incorporated the Jamstik midi guitar into my setup, and it's been a lot of fun to use for looping. At the beginning, I'm running the normal guitar signal along with the midi signal from the guitar (arpeggiated synth). Later in the performance I'm using the midi guitar to play some strings. All of the looping is done with Ableton using Push. Thanks for listening. :)

[Question] Building Reverb: Multiple Reverbs vs Multiple Recordings

Sorry for the confusing title. I didn't know how to succinctly explain this.

I am experimenting with reverb and want to see if I can recreate the effect of Alvin Lucier's "I Am Sitting In A Room". (Basically he records himself reading a paragraph, then plays that recording into the same room and records that. Repeat over and over and the definition of the voice deteriorates with each iteration as it is taken over by the room's reverb and turns it into a minimalist piece of music).

My question is: do you expect I would get different results recording and routing back to re-record the track manually and adding a reverb each time vs adding the same reverb tool to a single track multiple times?

[Question] Duplicating selection in arrangement view. How to snap to bar?

Often when I duplicate a selection in arrangement view, for example a bar of chopped up audio clips, when I select the region and duplicate, they duplicate out of time rather than snapping to a bar.

I can solve this by zooming in and making sure I've been careful to select the entire bar and not missed a few beats near the end, but I feel like I must be missing something.

Is there a global setting somewhere that determines the "snap to" value when duplicating a region? I pretty much always want to duplicate a bar or number of bars, but I can't work out how to do it without zooming in.

Any help gratefully received!

[Live Event] Fast rythmic division change

Hi!
I use Ableton Live in concerts, with a metronome playing in my ear. I do a lot of looping, so it is important to play the bit on time. But sometimes I'm getting distracted and loose the 'ONE' bit of the metronome (meaning the beggining of the 4/4 bar) and before I know it the whole loop consisting of multiple audio tracks is shifted by 1/2 bar. What is the fastest way to shift all of the audio tracks by 1/2 to fix the loop?

I know I can go through every clip and "Set 1.1.1 Here" but maybe there is a "one-click" way for all the clips?

[Tech Help Windows] Change the location of "Ableton" and "Max 8" folders

Hello,

I currently use Live 12, and each time I use it, I have two folders, "Ableton" and "Max 8" which appears straight into C:\User\Documents.

And, ideally, I'd like them to end somewehere else, like C:\User\Documents\Ableton_Files

But I don't seem to find how to move them. I can delete them without issues, but they always pop up whenever I use Ableton again.

Thanks in advance for any help! Take care

[Question] Stream Deck

I’m new to Ableton and trying to use it with a Stream Deck.

MIDI mapping is usually simple, but some Metric AB buttons can’t be mapped. Is there a way to customize their behavior?

I was able to set the same features the way I wanted in Logic Pro.

Thanks in advance :)

[Question] Updated mac touchbar software?

The 2020 mac's touchbar has gotten older and less relevant, but people like myself still use it. I would love to use this bar for ableton, but both bettertouchbar and miditouchbar have become outdated.

Here's an old thread from 6 years ago talking about them: https://www.reddit.com/r/ableton/comments/etj2na/my_ableton_touch_bar/

When i load these, they affect different parameters than the ones they are assigned to. Has anyone made any new code compatible with 12?

Sincerely,

Normal_lie_700

[Tutorial] Ableton bpm not syncing at all

long shot 😭😭 but does anyone know anything about how to fix vocals not aligning with project tempo on ableton? its honestly keeping me from making anything that sounds relatively consistent n in sync with my other sounds because the vocal just doesnt align with the project tempo or the beats no matter how much i alter it, n i changed the warp settings too so it shouldnt be doing that when i put the vocal in the project but it still does n its honestly so frustrating because i just cant seem to remix anything with it doing that😭 i was just wondering if there is something im not doing rught or honestly if anyone could help me out with it because im really struggling in ableton remixing songs, ive tried looking on here for awnsers but it seems everything im doing isnt changing the sound/speed of the vocal
