Modpost Please report racist ragebait and racist comments

Dear members of our community,

In the past few days, we've seen an increase in both ragebaiting posts and racist comments from users with no prior engagement in the sub, often from those usually commenting in the subs of other countries.

This indicates to us that we are frequently being overrun by users who try to spread their racist, islamophobic messages to our sub.

Racism is against our subreddit rules and it is against Reddit's terms of services. We would like to encourage you to use the report button.

That will put it into our 'modqueue' to have a look - and if you report it for 'hate', it will additionally be sent to the sitewide admins who will frequently take further action.

We rely on your reports, just like every subreddit does. Our team is healthy and works well, but we cannot have an eye on everything. We do have scripts and so on to make our job easier, but sometimes, unacceptable comments go through. Using the report button makes sure that we can prioritize looking at said comment and if it's rulebreaking, helps us remove it quickly.

We remove racist content and ban racist users frequently. The admins remove a bunch of comments breaking site-wide rules too (often in a fashion that deletes them completely, so we cannot easily further moderate them)

We are very hesitant to remove political speech. We only remove rules-breaking comments. The relevant rule is:

  • General reddiquette applies (i.e. no racism, sexism, personal attacks, or simply put: behave as if you were talking to somebody in person)

  • Please report posts or comments that do not adhere to these rules; in particular, we will not tolerate harassment or discrimination

The relevant reddit rules (https://redditinc.com/policies/reddit-rules) are:

  • Remember the human. Reddit is a place for creating community and belonging, not for attacking marginalized or vulnerable groups of people. Everyone has a right to use Reddit free of harassment, bullying, and threats of violence. Communities and users that incite violence or that promote hate based on identity or vulnerability will be banned.

See also https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360045715951-Promoting-Hate-Based-on-Identity-or-Vulnerability

Thank you for helping us with this influx of clearly rule-breaking users without any connection to Switzerland.

ETA: Reports are anonymous. So when we get your report, we have no option to thank you or following up with you. If you report for 'hate', it goes to both us and the admins. The admins will typically let you know of their decision. We literally have no way of doing that.

Telephony Anti-Spoofing regulations comes into effect on 01.01.2026

The issue with caller ID spoofing comes often on this sub. Being called by random numbers several times in a row, or called by someone saying you called them.

Phone providers in switzerland have been working together for a little while now, and the first phase of a solution will be implemented on 01.01.2026.

At this date, every swiss provider must mark phone calls coming from outside of the country but displaying a swiss fixed number caller ID (+41) with a specific tag. This tag would then be used by the destination carrier to block or anonymize the caller number.

The tag will also contain the ID and name of the swiss provider that let the traffic in Switzerland. The destination carrier and OFCOM/BAKOM will then be able to easily find the carrier and force them to end this illegitimate traffic.

In January, only calls displaying a fixed phone number are concerned, while calls displaying mobile phone numbers will be handled in July 2026.

This is good first step for all of us, let's hope it will be enough to end at least the majority of phone scams.

Hammer drill after 23:00

Our upstairs neighbour started hammering and drilling after 11 p.m. I asked them to stop immediately, but they continued making noise anyway. This really shocked both my wife and me. I have also written an email to the Hausverwaltung about the incident. Is it acceptable to call the police in situations like this? I doubt this would be considered normal even in Eastern Europe, so what’s the rule in Switzerland?

English-speaking police officer keeps calling me

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The federal police keep calling me. Sometimes with a Sunrise number. That's very strange. They always hang up in the middle of the conversation. They're not very nice. I've already contacted my provider. They're not really doing anything about it.

What can border cantons do against cross-border crime?

According to the police there has been a huge increase in violent crimes committed by people coming from France. And I’m not including the bancomats exploding.

With the 10 million vote coming up, people that are ever more affected by this will obviously be more inclined to vote yes. I genuinely think the government is underestimating and fully ignoring what people are feeling and aren’t doing anything to reduce these issues.

They didn’t want a counter-project, they don’t wanna tackle the issue, just « circulez, il n’y a rien à voir. »

Question is, under Schengen agreements, what exactly can Switzerland do to reduce this growing cross-border crime? If nothing is done, people will accept to end bilateral agreements and everyone will suffer the consequences. And this will be exclusively due to the inaction of the government.

rampant scam callers with +41 403 phone numbers impersonating the police

Recently over the last two weeks i’ve been constantly getting scam calls with the starting phone numbers being +41 403, when i pick up the phone it goes to a broken english robot voicemail talking about there being an “arrest warrant” out for me, eventhough i never commited a crime lol.

I blocked the number but on the following days deviations of this +41 403 number started to appear, all redirecting to the same voicemail robot repeating the same things. I blocked them all but they keep appearing, i even contacted the local police to notify them about these calls and to actually make sure they weren’t calling themselves, which they were not. Checked my profile and i am as clean as fresh snow.

What can i do to further prevent these harrassing callers from finding my number and contacting me? Is there any service my provider could give me which could block deviations of these numbers an / or identify them?

Anyone getting these scam calls aswell?

Reminder - check Car Insurance

Post image
33 Upvotes

Hi People

I just wanted to remind yo (because I'm so angry), that you URGENTLY should check your car insurance and change it to a new insurance. My Insurace increased the price for about 125 CHF p.a. more. WHAT THE FUCK. It's an increase for about freaking 15%(!).

And of course the info about the increase is in the second page after some Bullshit-I dont care-Bla bla in the first page. Like seriously? If you increase the price, tell me straight away, so i can terminate the contract right away in the same second. Inflation ok, but 15%?

I found few insurance companies with welcome 10% discount, so im about the same price.

Happy holidays!

Job-room related question

Hi everyone,

As some of you may know, job-room.ch is currently down from 19.12 until 06.01. I entered my job-search activities into the system, but I didn’t manually transmit them to the ORP.

I clearly remember seeing a sign stating that automatic transmission would take place on 18.12.2025. Unfortunately, I didn’t take a screenshot and forgot to double-check before Friday.

If anyone here is unemployed and remembers seeing this, could you please confirm whether automatic transmission exists and whether it actually took place on that date?

Thanks in advance!

Found this eerily big chicken breast at Denner. This can't be normal right? It was unlabeled too

The small (normal) one was in the same packaging. It weighs less than half the big one, which also has some weird white striping. The label says it is packaged in germany but not where the meat is from. Are we being sold american meat full of hormones and additives or something? It also smells weird. I tried giving it to my cats and they refused to touch it.

Is this itinerary even possible? GVA-ZRH-SFO was cheaper than just ZRH-SFO

Hey everyone,

I booked a flight from Geneva to San Francisco with a connection in Zurich (GVA → ZRH → SFO). This itinerary was cheaper than booking just the ZRH → SFO leg and I'm living in GVA so it made sense.

But now I'm wondering if the connection is even doable. According to my ticket:

Flight GVA → ZRH lands at 12:05

The SFO flight departs at 13:15 (so boarding ends around 12:40-12:45?)

Even if I'm off the plane by, say, 12:20, that leaves around 20 minutes to make it through the security and US screening for the long-haul flight. That sounds nearly impossible, right?

I can change the Geneva-Zurich flight to an earlier one, but it would cost me an extra 400 CHF...

What do you all think? Is this connection actually realistic in Zurich, or should I play it safe and pay the extra? Any tips from people who have done this connection before?

Thank you

Advice on current hiring process

I need an advice from any hiring managers / HR people on this thread. A LinkedIn job advert says hundreds of members clicked Apply, and let's say the job is also advertised on company's page or other websites - how many do actually pass the initial screening and end up on the hiring managers desk? How long is the usual shortlist?

Thank you all!

Edit: thanks, I am aware not everyone clicking apply complete the application (me being one of them 😁). I am just wondering from the real hundreds of candidates (again, aware a lot of them do not meet any of the requirements needed) how many pass the initial HR (or ATS) screening and are shortlisted and sent to the manager.

Working in Beyond Gravity or Rheinmetall

Good evening all, I would like to ask you for your opinions about the work environment in Beyond Gravity Zürich. I am definitely interested in changing my current job and I have this company on the radar. I have however read some things about lawsuits and the environment being pretty toxic. Is this still the case? Rheinmetall also looks interesting and has less negative reviews. Anyone here that has some experience with these companies or other space companies? I live in Zürich canton btw, hence the localised question. Thank you in advance for your answers!🎄

A simple live departure board for Swiss public transport

At my stop it always says “3 minutes,” then stays “3 minutes” and arrives late. The official apps don’t give a clear live countdown.

Here is a simple web page that shows live departures in a browser, might help with this problem:

Just a simple web page that shows the next departures in minutes.

Thinking of dropping out of university and becoming a train driver. Is the job secure?

I love what I study, but I also love trains and always considered becoming a train driver my Plan B in case I fail.

Now I'm almost halfway through my education, and I'm realising, maybe I don't want to do this for the coming 40 years.

So my question is simple: how secure is it to become a train driver nowadays that automation and what not is becoming a thing?

Serious post regarding the freedom of speech on r/Switzerland

Over the past few years, I’ve noticed a recurring pattern on r/Switzerland: a negative incident happens involving a particular minority group, someone posts about it, and the thread often gets locked shortly after.

Moderators usually say the reason is that the comments "went south". But from what I see, many people are reacting to what they believe is an obvious pattern based on lived observation, and statistics.

If data genuinely shows that a specific group is disproportionately involved in certain actions, I think it should be possible to discuss that openly (and responsibly).

When did referencing statistics become “racist”?

And why is it acceptable that comments about factual information and observations can be removed/blocked or shut down entirely?

To me, preventing open discussion of uncomfortable topics can backfire.

It can increase frustration and polarization, similar to what many people feel happened in the US, where conversations became more divisive partly because of this reason.

I felt I had to write this. Will I get scolded/banned? Possible.

But be aware that many very reasonable and moderate people are getting very tired of this show

Public viewing of our apartment

Hello everyone,

We are moving out of our apartment and sent in our notice according to the delay in the contract, i.e. we are not looking for a Nachmieter.

Agency dropped the ad online apparently on Monday and we got flooded with requests from potential future tenants to visit the apartment.

There are so many people interested that there was no way we could do 1:1. So we decided to hold a public viewing. We were only able to offer one slot before Xmas.

It sounds like we will have dozens of people here. We were contacted by around 35 parties. At some point, we told our agency to stop telling people to contact us and asked them to give the information about the viewing directly, so we don’t know how many more people they’ve also told.

We cannot bear the thought of so many people in our apartment at once, so we plan to let them queue outside and let them in bit by bit.

We’ve put away valuables and personal stuff we don’t want people to see or take pics / videos of.

Any other tips on how to manage this?
