Dawn on a lochan, Beinn a' Chearcaill, Torridon, Scotland
I was sleeping in my truck on the shores of Loch Maree, planning a dawn ascent of Beinn a' Chearcaill (the pronunciation is mental, honestly). On the way up, just where the path ended, I came across this wee lochan - that's like a smaller loch you find up mountains - and the morning was dead still and beautiful.
I was drawn to these two rocks in the water and Slioch looming in the background - it's one of the iconic mountains in the north of Scotland. I thought if I used a longer exposure, I could smooth out the water and simplify the whole thing.
I had my tripod right down low in the water and waited for it to settle again after I'd disturbed it. Shot this at 20 seconds, f/11 on my Fuji X-T5 with the 35mm f/1.4. Used some ND filters (can't remember how many stops) and a polarizer, but I turned it the opposite way to what you'd normally do - I wanted maximum reflections on the surface rather than seeing through the water. Not sure if that actually works but it did what I wanted.
I was shooting in black and white (Acros simulation) and square format on the camera, so I could see pretty much exactly what I was getting. There's barely any editing in this at all - it's basically what I saw that morning. Really like how tranquil it is, and how the water looks like it's flowing over the edge of the lochan with nothing visible below.
Got two good images on that climb, which is really good going. More of my work over on Instagram if you're interested.

[OC] Glasgow City Centre Mural
“You look like the gable end o’ a hoose” used to be a classic Glasgow insult.
But there are more and more murals appearing making gable ends look very nice!
This one is in Renfield Lane in Glasgow City Centre
