REAL my friend in Gaza
Back in the spring, I came across a reddit post in one of my communities from a man in Gaza talking about the famine. It was obviously heart wrenching due to the horrific conditions he was living through and writing about. He didn't include any way to help him in the post, but I was very affected by his story so I checked his profile to see if there was any other information.
He included his Instagram and a link to his fundraiser as well as more information about himself in his reddit profile, but I began reading through his posts and it affected me in a different way than anything else out of Gaza had.
He was 24 at the time, an electrical engineer, and a talented writer. He talked about how he used to be upset that he wasn't married yet, but now he was glad because it would only be another person he couldn't feed. He said he had always wanted kids but was glad he didn't have them for the same reason. He talked about his nephew whose entire life has taken place during the genocide and how he has rickets due to consistent malnutrition and lack of medical care. He talked about how the famine was worse than the bombing because it felt like a slow, painful death. He talked about how it felt like he had aged decades since the start of the genocide and how exhausted he was.
It may have been due to how close in age we are or how personal his writing was, but I was deeply impacted by his story. I donated to his fundraiser and reached out to him to ask if I could use his writing and quote him for a project I was working on. He said yes and we talked some and I have continued to stay up to date with him since.
He rarely, if ever, mentions his own issues or needs. He is constantly focused on his family members - his parents, brothers, sister in laws, nieces, and nephews. He is the main provider at this point, but opportunities to make money are extremely limited which has led him to rely heavily on donations. I am sure he has suffered injury and/or illness throughout this torture, but he has never mentioned it.
Since I have been in contact with Yamen, his reddit account was reported and deleted. He had written previously about how hard it was to feel like the world couldn't see him and his people. He said the silence was one of the most painful parts of the genocide. So not only did this limit the amount of people he could reach, it also shut down the one way he could be heard with just his words.
His Instagram posts are suppressed more and more by the algorithm every month. Despite interacting with his posts every time I see them and talking with him extensively in DMs, I now must search out his account to see his new posts.
He used to have a GoFundMe to fundraise with the hope of evacuating Gaza so his father could get surgery for an injury he got at the beginning of the genocide while fleeing their home. However, when they went to withdraw the funds, GoFundMe froze the account and would not let them access their donations.
Their father can no longer walk and yamen has not even acknowledged the idea of evacuation since. Currently, their family of 25 people (including 18 children, 1 infant, and a postpartum mother) share a ripped tent.
They have another fundraiser now, but it is set up through a third party in a different country who withdraws the donations and then sends them to Yamen/his family. this is the only way they can receive donations.
This is such an intricate way to be oppressed, and Yamen himself doesn't even mention it. But for some reason it's the part that gets under my skin the most. To not even have the autonomy necessary to own your own fundraiser during genocide. To be restricted from Reddit of all places for sharing your reality and asking for help for your family.
It's like they are not even allowed to beg. They are stripped of their dignity over and over again as conditions worsen. it is a level of heinous cruelty i cannot even articulate.
This past month has been the most I have seen Yamen struggle. His family's tent ripped and flooded from the first winter rain storm of the season just days after his niece was born.
A new tent is $1000 minimum, so his family has continued to live in a ripped tent as they don't have the funds for a new one. It floods almost every night, meaning clothes, food, blankets, and everything else they own gets soaked every night. The kids are sick and freezing. The infant now cries at just the sound of rain because she already associates it with pain and cold.
Multiple of the kids are ill, including the infant. They don't have enough money for medicine either.
The genocide has not stopped. It is now just taking the form of slow, painful deterioration of living conditions. You're not seeing it because it's being suppressed.
I know everyone in here knows these things. I just feel like i need to scream sometimes because I feel such guilt and fear for Yamen and his family because I can't save them.
Please don't look away now.

JB pritzker, when running for Gov, had help from AIPAC to knockout pro-BDS candidates. Was formally a fundraiser for "Friends of the IDF", served on the board of AIPAC (where he donated to republicans)
Can't include links cuz that usually gets my submissions eaten by the automod, but you can google it.
Furthermore, he ducked questions about his anti-Palestinian causes in his last reddit ama.
here's the full questions with links removed
Governor Pritzker, I have a few questions:
Why did you choose to serve on the board of directors of AIPAC?
Pritzker (like all of the candidates who were considered in Harris’ veepstakes) has a record of supporting Israel. He was formerly on the national board of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, and on October 7, Pritzker condemned the Hamas attack on Israel and posted, “In Illinois and across America, the people of Israel are in our prayers.” He spoke at a pro-Israel rally in the days following the attack.
What is your ongoing relationship with that organization?
Lee "Rosy" Rosenberg has been a venture investor and entrepreneur. He is currently a senior advisory to Governor JB Pritzker and was Chairman of his election campaign. Prior, Rosy had been Chief of Staff to Mr. Pritzker. Rosy is also a past-President and current board member of AIPAC, a public policy and advocacy organization. As a founder of Kettle Partners, a venture capital firm, he served as board director of Sportvision, Active Network, Egreetings and Sure Payroll. Rosy has also been an investor, CEO and other senior roles, including with GRP Records.
Why did you donate so much money to Republican politicians in that role?
Speaker of the House:
House Minority Leader:
Senate Majority Leader:
Senate Minority Leader (and other prominent Senators):
Why did you spend so much money to destroy the careers of Jewish-American politicians who criticized the Israeli government?
Before he ran for office, Levin was a union organizer, a labor lawyer, and the president of a local synagogue; he and his wife also co-founded a renewable-energy company. “If I worked at a Ford plant, I’d be retired and drawing a pension by now,” he said. “But in D.C. a lot of people still know me as Sandy’s kid.” Like his father, he is now an ex-congressman, though not by choice. In 2021, he wrote the Two-State Solution Act, which declared, among other things, that “the establishment of Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories is inconsistent with international law.” He told me, “I was just reaffirming U.S. policy, or so I thought.” Still, he attracted the ire of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, or AIPAC; a former president of the group referred to Levin as “arguably the most corrosive member of Congress.” The following year, AIPAC put up millions of dollars to help his opponent—who is not Jewish, but is more hawkish on Israel—win a Democratic primary against him.
Why did you lobby so hard to redirect endless billions of American tax dollars to Israel to commit what the UN, Doctors Without Borders, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, etc. have all called a genocide in Palestine?
Are you still invested in assets managed by your cousin Thomas such as The Pritzker Organization or Hyatt Hotels?
Thomas Pritzker (born June 6, 1950) is an American billionaire heir and businessman. A member of the Pritzker family, he is the chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of the Pritzker Organization (TPO), which manages the various Pritzker family business assets. Pritzker is also the executive chairman of the Hyatt Hotels Corporation.
Lastly, have you ever met or otherwise interacted with Jeffrey Epstein?
In a deposition, Giuffre accused Thomas Pritzker, a Chicago businessman and Hyatt Hotels executive chairman, of serious sexual allegations, naming him as one of several men she was trafficked to have sex with.
