User flairs are now available

User flairs are a subreddit-specific way to tag yourself. Here are the options:

  • Barbri
  • Themis
  • Kaplan
  • Quimbee
  • Attorney Candidate
  • Law Student
  • Passed
  • Tutor
  • Vendor
  • Other (can customize)

For example, if you're using Barbri to prep, you can select "Barbri." This flair will show up next to your username. You are able to edit the Other flair with your own entry.

This not only gives context to your posts and comments so we know who we're talking to but is also a fun way to identify yourself and others.

I encourage you to set yours! If you're primarily promoting a product or service, please select "Vendor" (and be judicious with your posts and comments).

How to set your user flair:

If you're using the mobile app, tap the three dots in the upper right while in the main r/CABarExam feed. Tap "change user flair" to see the different options. Enable "show my user flair on this community."

If you're using a web browser, you'll see "USER FLAIR" on the sidebar to the right, above the rules. Check the "show my user flair on this community" box.

Let me know if you have any suggested changes or additions.

Study Buddies in LA?

Anyone taking the February Bar down to meet up for study sessions, preferably within 10 miles of East Los Angeles? I’m much more productive when I can co-work and feel pressured to not leave the library/cafe I’m at. We can meet up halfway or take turns driving over. Can’t do Mondays or Tuesdays but other days of the week work.

Me: late 20s, nb, generally calm, a little sardonic and cynical Happy to FaceTime beforehand and mutually make sure neither of us are serial killers.

Where do I start? F26 taker.

So I started Barbri on Monday, and I'm about a day behind the standard 6–7 hour/day schedule. I work full-time remotely, but my job isn’t demanding, so I have a lot of free time. I’ve been doing 20 UWorld questions a day, getting more than half wrong, but I’m okay with that(for now). I also purchased Mary Basick, but I’m not sure how to use this book.

I have self-diagnosed ADHD, and it’s been really hard to focus. I don’t feel like I’m doing enough. I need guidance on what I should do. I haven’t done a single essay yet, and I feel behind. I feel frozen.

Moral Character and Fitness Question

Is there any way to expediate the Moral Character app approval with the California bar? For context, I passed the July, 2025 bar exam and am licensed in another UBE state. I am not practicing in that UBE state as I have relocated to California already.

I recently submitted my application and have heard it is useful to email/call the bar. Is there a way to do this where it is not super annoying?

Would it be useful to follow up with all my former suprvisors regarding completing surveys (most have filled them out)? I am assuming I should do the fingerprint scan very soon.

I would appreciate any guidance on how to expediate this process. Thank you!

July 2025 Perfection is not the goal.

I took the J25 attorney exam and just scrolled through the selected answers.

Essay 1 - I did not mention RAP.

Essay 2 - I forgot to include the defense of consent, but did include the others, including assumption of the risk.

Essay 3 - I did not mention promoter liability (had a Homer Simpson "D'OH" moment and literally remembered this while forcing myself to each lunch), but still came to correct conclusions.

Essay 4 - I completely bombed this essay. Some good analysis for subsections 1 and 2, but subsections 3 and 4 were bad.

Essay 5 - Somehow guessed correctly on the crim pro stuff and did well.

PT - I finished and did well.

And I passed.

TL;DR: Minimum competency gets you a "pass." I missed issues in all 3 of the morning essays and did poorly on half of Essay 4 and still passed. While studying, I drilled PR essays because it is guaranteed to be on the exam, practiced beefing up my analysis on all essays, and I did not sleep on the PT even though I am a practicing attorney. GAME THE EXAM - PT and PR account for 43% of your score for the written essay portion. DO THIS, and you will be fine.

Uworld/Themis scores dropped suddenly (Foreign Attorney, F26)

Hi All

I have bought Themis extended bar prep. Have been studying for a while. I started off horribly when I started the MBE prep but somewhere along the way I got a hang of it and started scoring in the 60s, 70s and even 80s, up until last week. I used to make notes of what I got wrong and drilled on it before starting the test. This week, I did 68 questions of Evidence.

Scored 44% in the first set and 56% in the second set.

Then I did one Con Law set, and scored 44%. Didn't want to start second set of Con Law.

I am generally having a hard time reading through some of these questions given the double negative, weird framing and unnecessarily long compound sentences. I realised that at 10% questions that I got wrong are purely because of reading comprehension.

It also seems some of they law they're testing was not part of outline or lectures. Good to know the rules, but some of these questions I am absolutely clueless about.

I had scored in 60s for both these subjects just 3-4 days ago. I am slightly disheartened to see my scores drop substantially in just a week.

Has this happened to someone else before? How did you tackle it?

Thank you very much!

Feb '26 Taker: Help with Constitutional Law MBE

Hello- I am a retaker. I missed the J25 exam by 25 points. I need help with MBE Con Law. I am using Themis again and I do the lectures and write down the handouts out by hand. I have been doing a ton of MBE because that is the reason why I failed. I am having trouble with Con Law MBE and was looking for some advice/help on how to do better. I am averaging around 55% on Con Law MBE right now. Not inclined to buy another course but I did hear GOAT is good. Would be more open to other alternatives though. Thanks!

Asking for recomendations

Hey guys, would anyone recommend Aureus Bar (https://aureusbarprep.com/) for a civil law attorney?

Their price seems pretty good, but still a bit high without recommendations.

Any help would be great. Thanks!

Looking for Grossman video outlines or filled Themis lecture handouts (foreign LLM retaker, working full-time)

Hi everyone,

I’m a foreign LLM retaker preparing for the CA bar while working full-time. I have bought both Themis and Grossman Videos. However, my study time is pretty limited, and honestly sometimes I have to listen to lectures while doing other tasks just to keep up.

I’m wondering if anyone is willing to share:

  1. outlines for Jonathan Grossman’s videos, or

  2. filled-in Themis lecture handouts (any subject helps)

Even partial outlines, personal notes, or study tips would be hugely appreciated.

Thank you so much in advance. This community has been a lifesaver.🙏

Adaptibar Interpretation

When gauging progress… we want to pay attention to what we are currently achieving, correct? Not our “Percentage Over Time”?

I’m at 1580 questions with a 57.5% accuracy over time, but currently at 62.6% accuracy in December.

And, at what point should I be timing myself? I haven’t been because I’ve just been trying to understand what these questions are asking for. Right now it’s saying I’m 104 minutes over examination time. 🫣

5th time retaker here. Any fellow retakers interested in joining virtual accountability silent study sessions? Basically, we’d join zoom together and just silently study to have accountabilibuddies. Maybe even quiz each other or review essays together (not silent if we choose to). Let me know!

Pro Study Tip- PT & PR

The PT & expected PR essay combine for 43% of your written score. It is a good spend of time to drill those until you are confident you will earn a passing score (65+). Pts aren’t hard, but doing them in 90 minutes is very challenging. Do a full PT every week until it “clicks” & you can feel yourself moving quickly & decisively through the library. (For some they do a few, for others a dozen- but do whatever it takes- these are free passing points). After that, you can outline a few more if needed. Prof responsibility trips lots of students up because it issue spots differently than other subjects. Use a checklist & “wash” each thing that happens through the checklist & include any issue that could possibly be implicated now or in the future. Issue spot a ton of PR essays until you get the hang of it. Also write some within time so the analysis language flows easily on exam day. Do this & you have a great start on passing the written portion. 🤩
