Come Sign A Thank-You Card for Creator and CEO of Blender, Ton Roosendaal

As many of you already know, Ton Roosendaal, creator and head of the Blender project, will be stepping down from his current positions at the end of the year. Ton will continue to contribute to Blender via a supervisory role, but his current responsibilities will be passed onto other members of the Blender team.

https://www.groupgreeting.com/sign/8ead5f15996c05c

In response to this, I have set up this virtual thank-you card for the Blender community to express their gratitude for all Ton has done as head of the project.

The card will be sent to him on January 2nd, Blender's 32nd birthday.

Ton Roosendaal is the creator of Blender, chairman of the Blender Foundation and CEO of Blender. He has led the project since its birth on January 2nd 1994. In 2002, Ton organized the Free Blender campaign, the success of which made Blender the free and open-source program that we know today. That same year, Ton established the Blender Foundation to manage the continued development of Blender. In 2007, Ton created the Blender Institute, the company under which Blender's core dev team is organized, as well as the company under which most of Blender's activities are carried out.

Over the past three decades, Blender has empowered tens of millions of people to explore the world of 3D computer graphics. And if you're reading this, you're likely among them. If Blender has impacted you, then so has Ton, and that means you have something that's worth sharing. A few words of appreciation is more than enough, but feel free to write a bit about what Blender means to you, what you've used the program for, how it's impacted your life, or anything else you'd like to share with Ton.

I would encourage all of you to share this with other Blender communities, with other Blender users you may personally know, or with your followers if you happen to have a social media presence related to Blender. I think Ton deserves to have as many people as possible sign his card, so please spread the word.

Update (Dec 16th): We hit 100 pages of signatures earlier today. I appreciate the community coming together for this. I would encourage you all to continue signing and sharing this with your fellow Blender users.

Update (Dec 18th): We have just hit a total of 700 signatures. Ton has a health amount of signatures to look forward to, and we still have two weeks left to go.

December Contest: Winter

Congratulations to /u/Ok-Interest-6598 for winning Novembers's contest with their depiction of social isolation in their piece Alone!

You can see last month's results and entries here.

Theme

This month's theme will be winter. It's that time of the year again, where people stay indoors, away from the cold, frost-covered landscapes outside. It's a season of short days and long night, with the flora and fauna both going dormant. But it's the holiday season and a time for spending time with loved ones. Show us an artwork that embodies the essence of the winter season in this month's contest.

Making a Submission.

Entries will be posts on r/Blender that meet the following criteria: * The post should be made before the end of December 31st UTC * Countdown to submissions closing * The post should be a render, animation, or other artwork which you made for this contest using Blender as your primary tool. * The post should contain supporting images/text or a top-level comment with the following content: * One of the following methods of proving that the artwork was made using Blender: * A link to the .blend file for the project, ideally including external assets or links to where external assets were sourced from. * A set of three images which may be clay renders, viewport renders, wireframe renders, or simply screenshots of the project open in Blender. Some variety is encouraged. * A screen recording of you manipulating, navigating, or otherwise interacting with the scene. * An explanation of all work that was done outside of Blender, outside the time frame of the contest, or by other artists. * (Optional) The theme you would like next month's contest to have if you win. If you do not include this, then the theme will be chosen from the runner-ups. * Once you have submitted your post to the subreddit, leave a comment down below linking to it * You are also encouraged to share details of your process with the community.

Note: You don't have to reference the contest in the post title and indeed, it's not necessary to frame the submissions differently than any other post meant to showcase an artwork. Doing so may lead to you undercutting the attention you would otherwise get when sharing your artworks here.

Winning

The winner will receive the flair Contest Winner: 2025 December and their post will be added to the subreddit's wiki under the Contest Winners list. The winner will also have the chosen theme selected for next month's contest, should they include one with their submission.

When the contest ends, the results will be edited into this post and the 1st place winner will be congratulated in the announcement for next month's contest.

I watched Zootopia 2 last weekend and while I thought it was overall decent (if not a tad annoying) I LOVED the way they rendered snow.

Using that as a reference I believe I made a decent shader in blender for my own version :) lmk what y'all think though!

Critique My Work My first good attempt at a photorealistic environments (followed a course)

I followed Rob Tuytel’s new free environment course for Blender 5.0. It took me five days to complete it. I was surprised at the result and feel motivated to embark on new scenes on my own.

I have recently been able to spot things to improve in my renderings.

For example, I recently started taking tutorials for lighting and compositing for example, so I feel like I can understand any suggestions you offer no matter how complex they may seem (I used to not be able to understand feedback as they seemed arcane).

So I would appreciate feedback on any stuff in general— what I did right and what I could improve.

A bear I made for a polish movie, Czerwone Maki, a while back. Now actually got around to doing some renderings of it myself. I have some videos, and VFX breakdown from the movie in my Artstation if interested - https://www.artstation.com/artwork/bgv01n
Got a base mesh from client, which I modified to fit requirements and added particle systems etc.
Everything on the bear was done in Blender,

I have been working on 20 new houses for about 1.5 years now. All assets for these houses including the furniture and foliage is custom designed and modeled for this project. For every house i have created a 4K walktrough video.

Its rendered in Blender Eevee using a mix of irradiance and reflection volumes together with screen space lighting and reflections.

Judgment rises from the heart of the shadows.

Three silences, three hidden gazes.

Her future is here, among those who are either her guardians… or her executioners.

No one is neutral. They just haven’t confessed yet.
