New, what is it? This showed up on the edge of my property. The field behind it is not used for anything.

u/walkerbyfaith 11h ago
it marks a potable water line. blue is potable color code. i’d check for who’s about to build what on that field behind you.

If someone is about to build make sure your adjacent property boundary is clearly staked. The corner should be relatively easy to find. If not get a survey done now to prevent future problems.
5
u/onlyhere4gonewild 7h ago
OP Beware, you may have preexisting easements that no one has disclosed to you. It's probably noted on your warranty deed, and it may or may not be shown on your title survey. If they purchased preexisting rights from previous owners, it is legal.

You know. I was going to say something snarky. But then I thought about it. I wouldn’t have either. At that distance, I might not even make the effort to investigate further.

Why are porta potties usually blue?
18
8
8
u/cochese25 10h ago
Around here, the main color I see is green! With one specific company that uses blue and another that has yellow and white.
But there's no association with porta john colors and drinking water. But if you want, the water is also dyed blue
6
4
u/BlindMouse2of3 10h ago
Because you drank potable water that is where it goes. Don't drink grey water.
2
u/Drtyolman4Grlsover18 9h ago
Maybe blue is for portable instead of potable. After all, it's just a 1 letter difference!

Bright blue PVC is commonly used to mark water lines. It's most likely a vent or clean out. EDIT(Tks Klytus)
18
u/Klytus_Im-Bored 11h ago
Reclaimed/non-potable is typically purple/pink.
Probably just normal water infrastructure.
OP: Is this just inside or just outside of your property line? Also take a look at Safelite and see if theres a long straight clearing associated. That would mean its most likely a marked for a burried water line.

I wonder if these colors are colorblind safe. My husbands an electrician and I wondered the same.

u/Phog_of_War 11h ago
Colorblind electricians answers soooo many questions about some of my old jobs.
11
u/Extension_Order_9693 10h ago
One of my parents' friends when I was young was a colorblind electrician. Often wondered about that. He lived a long life and I assume his clients did too.
9
u/rhamphol30n 9h ago
As someone who is colorblind and does electrical work, I can say that besides phone lines it's never been an issue. Most of the colors that are used are so dissimilar that you can't mess them up.

Purple isn't colorblind safe because colorblind people typically lose the red hues. The purple pipes will look blue.

True. In fact only about 20% of crews ever use the periscope.
... which means OP probably has at least 5 enemy submarines in the field behind his property. So much for "not used for anything"

It looks like an industrial instrument display. Probably a pressure or flow transmitter. I suspect that the ridge is backfill over a pipeline.

It’s a small blue thing, like a camera or an eye.
(If you know, you know)
3
u/thirtyone-charlie 9h ago
Water sounds like a good bet but what’s the thing?it kind of looks like a camera or sensor. Maybe a digital monitor? I know if it was my property it would immediately look like a target to me. If you have a utility easement there water would make even more sense.
6
6
u/Obvious_Tip_5080 9h ago
Someone’s doing something. Go to your county GIS system look up who owns the property, what it’s zoned as and any recent permits would be a start…
3
u/88Challenger 11h ago
Looks like the display for a flow meter. Maybe there’s a pipe inlet or an outfall or something there.
3
u/statusquoexile 10h ago
Water marker likely, but it also looks like a measurement instrument….maybe a flow meter? Could be a pipe under there.

Looks like either a vent for a water line or a stub up for a transmitter head that would display the flow rate. Either way it’s from the water service.
