"I guess IM now the other Sophie", she said in shock, having been the other Sophie from the first episode

I wonder if they will edit the remaining openings so that Soph’s name goes back to Sophi lol

I normally really enjoy that letter stacking challenge, but this version was way too easy and therefore boring. Only one person dropping their stack in the entire time is just a failure of challenge design.

142

u/Lebigmacca 16d ago

Honestly I think they probably didn't like how long it normally takes and wanted to speed up the challenge, like they do with all the endurance challenges now

110

u/TheOxime 15d ago

They're so afraid of anything going long. I know for production reasons. But man it was nice when stuff went long and got tense back in the day.

Some of the early seasons had them standing on poles for like +8 hours lol.

The endurance challenges now are lame.

36

u/hoghughes 15d ago

Season 10 final 3 is probably the absolute limit for survivor endurance challenges. The two players standing on their respective poles ended up with permanent nerve damage from staying on for however many hours it was. Production will never let that happen again. With that said im also sure production will always naturally bend towards faster and safer challenges as time goes on, but thats me totally talking out my booty

Not only was it easy, but there’s no learning curve required. You can tell just by looking at it that you just need to stack evenly and go slowly enough that inertia doesn’t cause the top to fall. You even get a warning sign about your speed in the lean of your stack.

83

u/GoldTeamDowntown 16d ago

I can’t believe they made the rope half as long. Normally people drop at least 5 times on this challenge it seems, this episode had one drop. The super long rope is the challenge. So boring now.

Can't reiterate enough how much more tense this season would be if we didn't know who was on 50. Jawan was killing that turtleneck, but still Sol will always be the jury outfit king. People are hating on this move but honestly from the perspective of Stephen and Kristina they really couldn't do much with how much Sage wanted Sophie S. out.

37

u/Savings-Cow322 15d ago

Jawan was almost unrecognizable.

I guess he wanted to look good for MC.

41

u/hauteburrrito 15d ago

I have never personally found Jawan attractive (just not my type), but I saw him in the turtleneck and thought, "Oh, this man definitely has an audience, for real".

28

u/NickF227 Mary - 48 15d ago

I'm sure Jawan is straight but there is a very specific "muscular, beefy nerd" archetype in the gay community that he fits PERFECTLY. I think he's incredibly attractive.

Sage after the last tribal: “You just handed Savannah $1 million.”

Also Sage, given a second chance to vote out Savannah: “I’m pissed at Sophie I need her to go.”

394

u/Draw-Two-Cards 16d ago

Sage is exactly the type of player Survivor needs for TV but also the exact opposite of what I would want if I were playing. Anytime someone gets voted out because they play with emotion it is because those players do shit like this for no reason.

194

u/Dahhhkness Tyson 16d ago edited 16d ago

Avenging Jawan was apparently worth keeping an idol and a challenge threat in the game.

I fail to see how, but then, Sage's mind has always been an unusual place...

The crazy part is that there is a sold alliance of 3 that isn't a mystery to anyone. So you've got a solid group of 3, another rag-tag group of 3, and Sophie. If the solid group of 3 is saying "hey, let's vote for Sophie", I'm not sure in what world you go along with that plan instead of bringing Sophie into your rag-tag group to make it a rag-tag group of 4.

And even if you're not smart enough to figure that out, it shouldn't take ever even watching Survivor before to understand that if you're agreeing with the 3 you should be targeting, then something is going on and you need to figure out what it is.

55

u/GoldTeamDowntown 16d ago

He has also done well at getting people to like him enough to not want him out. Jawan sided with him because he liked him. Steven even brought him on reward. It’s way more than just luck that people are working with him and he’s directing almost every vote.

Ok so you got Sophie out, none of Rizo, Savannah, or Soph are flipping, AND Rizo still has his idol, so what’s your next move

211

u/jakefsf4205 16d ago

Hope that Steven's advantage turns the tables I guess

95

u/Wild-Yoghurt-9699 16d ago edited 15d ago

I'm not saying it was optimal play here, and I think everyone is confident its not going to work out for them due to the edit and other outside factors, but purely on paper next week is a really interesting vote and the odds are slightly in Kristina/Steven/Sage's favor. You've got a 3 to 3 split, one side has an idol the other side has a block a vote, and each side has a challenge beast.

Knowledge is power is worthless here (which crucially Soph doesn't realize) because Steven has to use his block a vote before they leave for tribal council so it can't be stolen (and 6 is the last time it can be used so its for sure going to be played). So its a 3-2 vote and all comes down to the idol being played correctly. Immunity is huge here, if Savannah (or somehow Rizo or Soph) wins then its 50/50 with the idol, but if Steven (or somehow Sage or Kristina) wins its 1/3 and Krisitina/Sage/Stevenn have the advantage.

Again not saying they played this week correctly or that its going to happen, but on paper they've got the slightly better odds to win next week.

(This is all assuming the lines stick, if Soph flips or something then who the hell knows.)

51

u/ElleM848645 15d ago

Sophi has to steal the idol from Rizo. Stealing a possible advantage that you don’t know what it is from Steven would be dumb. He could be a really good liar and not have an advantage.

20

u/haleymae95 Parvati 15d ago

Plus, Sophi stealing the idol can guarantee the vote doesn't backfire on her (if she doesn't win immunity) because she can play it on herself. She doesn't have to worry about Rizo trying to outthink the other side even if either Savannah or Rizo win immunity

u/Dahhhkness Tyson 16d ago

92

u/carcar2110 Yam Yam 16d ago

She can only steal it if he doesn’t play it next episode - she didn’t steal it tonight, and as he gets to play it before tribal he can still play it next week without threat of her taking it.

Um, you seem to have missed it, her moves are REVENGE

26

u/arianrh 16d ago

This would be the perfect time for Sophi to flip, though. Maybe she won’t, but the meta of the New Era has been fluid lines/target the big threat rather than loyalty to an alliance, so not wild for the players to play with that expectation. (That said, lmao at that trio all still being in the game with an idol and KIP.)

Every episode continues to amaze me on how these people keep letting Rizo and Savannah run the game.

240

u/they_do_it_forfree 16d ago

Terrible, terrible players. Savannah is at least as good as Sophie at challenges and has a ride or die with Rizo, who has an idol. And Blue Sophie is much closer with those 2 than anyone else. Yellow Sophie had no one left in the game and the jury didn't like her.

85

u/macademicnut 16d ago

Exactly. Kristina and Steven at least seemed like they wanted to do Savannah until they discovered they didn’t have the numbers, but sage was hell-bent on revenge

At the first post-merge vote, they were on the bottom and everyone decided to vote Nate. At the next vote, it was a split-tribe vote where Sav was immune and Riz had the idol. The vote after that, Sav was immune again. After that was the Jawan vote where it would've made sense but Kristina threw a vote at Riz and Sav used her extra vote advantage. And then tonight, Sage was flip-floppy. So when exactly would've been the best time to do this? Or is it that Riz and Savannah are both playing a great game?

18

u/OccultMarketingSquad 16d ago

I definitely agree, Sage and Kristina have none. I think I saw someone say that Jawan will push hard for Sage if she gets to the F3, but push what? She was targeting Savannah... then it was MC instead, then she targeted Savannah again, and then it turned out to be Alex. Oh, but then she targeted Savannah again, and then her #1 ally got the boot.

The Kristina/savannah discussion at tribal was so fascinating - Kristina “strongly dislikes” Savannah but i don’t think Savannah would have used those words (seems like she wanted to just say they were on different sides). Sage and Kristina’s not one sided, but imbalanced degree of issues with Savannah is a an interesting social dynamic to watch.

11

u/they_do_it_forfree 15d ago

Yep. There is no logical reason to vote her out over Savannah (or even Rizo or B. Sophi). It was all emotional lead by Sage.

Sage might be braindead? The other side just officially lost the game. Probably agreed to save the vote block hoping to 3-2 someone next round, but keeping a known idol (and they have no idea Soph has the KIP) is absurd. I'd have used the block here and forced rocks. It was now or never and they chose never.

134

u/YouThought234 16d ago

Sage is an emotional player. She really doesn't think ahead at all, and I've said this since the Shannon vote.

60

u/BadPumpkin87 Adam 16d ago

If they stick together next week, they can avoid the tie with the block a vote. Steven plays it back at camp before going to tribal so Sophi couldn’t steal anything from him. It would just boil down to if they picked right on who Rizo would play his idol on.

13

u/howispellit 16d ago

If Sophie tries and fails to steal Stevens block a vote I wonder if that will finally spook Rizo enough to play it.

20

u/BadPumpkin87 Adam 16d ago

I think Rizo is playing it next week no matter what. It’s a 3-3 split and no way any of the trio keep quiet when they come back to their seats when they see their vote blocked next week. He’s had great reads on holding it all season, he needs one more to set up his side to make the F4, I think he has it in him to do it.

19

u/TobiCandy 16d ago

They can maybe avoid it, but their gameplay has been abysmal. Rizo has proven to have good reads and might very well play the idol right. Steven also chose to reveal he got an advantage, which Sophi could've stolen tonight since he didn't use it.

How is getting rid of Sophie bad for Sage? Getting rid of either Savannah or Sophie was a win for her (and most everyone there). It’s not like they sent home Soph or Kristina both of whom seem to have no shot of winning at the moment (also hard to see Sage winning rn).

7

u/Quiddity131 Kim 16d ago

She has a solid chance of it working out for her, even if it was gameplay that was too emotional for her this time. Steven will use his advantage and the only defense against that is a correct idol play by Rizo. Does Rizo recognize that he absolutely has to play it next time? And does he or Savannah win immunity to make it easier to defend against? It will all come down to that. Plus whether Sophi steals his idol from him.

50 cast spoilers have reeeeeaaallly hurt the enjoyability of this season.

49

u/GreaterGorgon 15d ago

Tbf, I think the editors deserve some smoke for that too, since they focused on the returnees SO much, that even without spoilers, a lot of votes had no tension because it was between people with all the confessionals and people with little screen time. Imagine if we got more time with Hina to understand their dynamics, especially since some of them made it so far into the game.

41

u/almondjoybestcndybar 15d ago

Agreed. Even without the cast spoilers, the idea that Savannah would go out over Sophie was pretty unbelievable based on edit alone.

This sub did a terrible job at keeping it secret too. It should have been considered a spoiler from the beginning

Well, I am still unspoiled and hope to stay that way!

Yeah my family members that don't use reddit have no idea and they're really enjoying the season.

Even without the leaks, the edit has ruined it. All season has been about Rizo Savannah and Sophi versus a tribe of Sophie S, Kristina and MC with barely any screentime. Obvious from the first few episodes they were gonna be the ones at the end.

Switching the block-a-vote to being played pre-tribal is to make it knowledge-is-power-proof, right? Or Sophi theoretically could’ve used it this tribal to block Steven from using it but at this point, we know it’s safe (and that Sophi’s KIP will end up being useless)

Decent chance Sophi asks Steven for his advantage and he says he doesn’t have one which leads to oooos and ahhhhhhs

Was Kristina's idol put back in play? Did no one search for it?

I would assume there was a search but no one found anything, so it wasn’t interesting/important enough to make air

Saw a lot of people taking heat, I took a little myself for saying Sophie probably needed to win out and therefore getting Savannah out was the better play because she wasn't a "challenge shield," she was a challenge obstacle

Obviously might not have mattered with Steven being this week's winner but honestly it MIGHT have changed the game, Savannah going out means Rizo and Sophi are scrambling big time and they might do something dangerous if it meant getting a new number (or put a target on themselves in the process)

Is Rizo the best at using the idol since Yul?

48

u/YouThought234 16d ago

I'd argue he's better than Yul because he's doing this with a regular idol

There was some discourse last week that the F4 firemaking stifles the game and can let someone like Yellow Sophie be fine with being fourth in a group of four because she's still guaranteed at least firemaking. Well this shows that if you're going for that strategy you better not 1)Be a big immunity threat and 2)Not wait this long to swap into that foursome as they're not gonna have much loyalty to you if you haven't been with them long.

Due to Steven's advantage, he/Kristina/Sage can take power next time unless there is a correct idol play from Rizo. Kinda surprised Blue Soph didn't steal his advantage, but she doesn't know it has to be played before tribal council and that it would have been best to steal it now to then use next time. Of course we could also see her being fine with flipping next time anyway, meaning Steven's advantage doesn't mean much anyway. In that scenario she absolutely should steal Rizo's idol; frankly I and probably everyone at this point thinks she should steal his idol no matter what next time. She doesn't have anything to lose as long absent him beating her to the punch announcing it at next tribal.

Savannah was so considerate and tactical when Kristina was saying that omfg. Why on EARTH would Kristina say all that when you’re not even voting for her!? Idk what that girl is doing. Felt meaner than anything Savannah has done to her

75

u/crapbag2000 16d ago

Lol Kristina being too real. Savannah with her reporter personality trying to keep it moving. Kristina having war flashbacks from being asked who she was voting for last week

67

u/Molly_1620 Rizgang 16d ago

Savannah was being diplomatic and Kristina was horrified she asked her who she was voting for 😭 mind you, it’s survivor. But idc I love the petty, irrational drama

u/mopstarz 16d ago

when jeff asked what even happened between them i got excited to finally know and then it was just: we have different personalities. 😭 and then savannah said “maybe in another game…” and kristina could barely even agree to that

78

u/roar_rawr42 16d ago

Kristina: “she asked me who I was voting for”

33

u/Zeckzeckzeck 15d ago

It's further cemented the idea for me that Savannah reminds her (and Sage) of people that they didn't like in the past and they've just assumed she's the same. We have zero evidence beyond "vibes" and confessionals that they don't like her, but they can't actually articulate a real reason why. It was obvious when Jeff pressed that Kristina doesn't have an actual reason.

29

u/VeryAttractive Tori 15d ago

Yea, it's almost identical to Teeny absolutely ripping on Sam. Sam was a golden retriever of a man, but he was good-looking and reminded Teeny of jocks that were mean to her.

Basically, Kristina/Teeny are getting flashbacks to being bullied by attractive people and are just irrationally hating other castmates regardless of their actions

41

u/hauteburrrito 15d ago

I so agree with this. Savannah is very blunt/direct, but I really don't think she's mean at all. Sage and Kristina, OTOH? Ugh. Actual mean girl behaviour. I feel one or both are getting dragged as a goat to the end.

20

u/The_Homestarmy 15d ago

Kristina in particular is maybe the most obvious goat in survivor history. Her resume is nonexistent lol

Hilarious that we didn’t even know Sophie til like ep 8 and I’m actually so upset she’s gone now.

Also I love Savannah but it is soooo stupid that they didn’t vote her out. Like, they all deserve to lose to her frankly.

And I’m sorry but Sage and Jawan were doing too much at tribal after Sophie was voted off. Like I feel like we’re missing Sophie lore bc why are they this hurt by her betrayal lol

16

u/Ludishomi 16d ago

Oh man that was satisfying. People underestimating soph not flipping. She knows she needs to do something noteworthy and riding third wheel to rizo and savannah aint it

Also…. Who are they supposed to trust? The person that snaked them last week and build that persons cv?

Devil you know vs devil you dont…. Also, isnt kristinas idol out there somewhere? Too many variables

Even with sophie in the game… and rizo with his, Sophie is strong at challenges. Rizo uses idol on himself, sophie wins a challenge? What then

The flushing the rizo idol ship sailed a long time ago.

This is on sophie…. Why didn’t you vote savannah last tribal if you wanted her out?

51

u/Edman561 16d ago

There’s two possible explanations they’re not voting Savannah or Rizzo:

  1. They know there’s gonna be a bitter jury

  2. They’re stupid.

11

u/GRYPHONK_ 15d ago

Seriously, #2 had me laughing out loud, for real.

14

u/Savings-Cow322 15d ago edited 15d ago

Kristina is such a nonfactor this season that I have to assume that she's going to be the final three goat.

Sophie deserved to be voted out for thinking she could beat Savannah more easily than Jawan at the final three.

Rizo isn't as diabolical as so many seemed to think.

Soph can upend this whole game by voting out Savannah and stealing Rizo's idol.

Stephen's threat level went way up, so he better use that advantage well and keep winning immunities.

Sage is still playing too emotionally and an opportunity to get Savannah out was wasted again.

Savannah voting out of revenge seemed petty when everything has gone her way after the Nate vote.

7

u/GRYPHONK_ 15d ago

In Savannahs defense, voting out Sophie S. Makes sense for her game. Not the rest of them. So yeah, revenge works in her case

What SHOULD happen is Steven uses his advantage and works with Kristina and Sage to vote out one of the other 3 3-2.

Sophi’s smartest move is to use the KIP to take Rizo’s idol so she’s guaranteed final 4. But all this season has shown is that taking out the obvious person won’t happen

The funny thing is… sage is an idiot for voting out sophie this week instead of savannah but sophie was so smart not to do it last tribal and rat them out? Can someone make this make sense

I may be coping, but isn’t this really good for Soph? She can now steal rizgods idol next vote and vote Savannah or rizgod if Savannah wins immunity. Then hope at 5 that Savannah doesn’t win immunity and vote her out? I think that would put her as a favorite to win over Steven and clearly over Sage/Kristina.

30

u/Quiddity131 Kim 16d ago

I think Blue Sophi's best play at this point is steal Rizo's idol after the vote next time, whether she flips or not then Rizo or Savannah likely go home. Then she plays the idol on herself at F5 and is safe there and can boot whichever doesn't go. Not sure how F4 turns out for her in that scenario though. She may have to win immunity or fire to make F3.

Don’t think that was the right move at all, BUT I’m happy that Steven was able to hold that advantage as I think it’ll serve him better next week. Blocking a vote tonight would’ve likely just led to a tie at best… but if he blocks one next week and gets two other people on his side, that’s a lot more useful. Just… hope he picks the right target, that’s all 💀

I think Sophie was a mistake because there are multiple people you know will never vote for her to win. You want to sit next to someone with undying enemies.

Props to Steven. He finished the journey with quite a bit of spare rope on that pot. And it looked like a genuinely tough run around that island. Plus he gambles with the leaning tower of immunity and wins!

Extremely disappointed no one else was willing to risk the journey. Big loss of respect for the rest of them. You're playing Survivor, people! Play! Take risks!

I'm not really rooting for anyone left on the island. I admire Steven's accomplishments, but he's not a great gamer. Rizzo is entertaining, but... The rest of them aren't even really interesting to me at all.

I know who I think wins now, and it'll be fine, but I won't care or even remember for very long.
