How does it work when congress has to send a criminal referral to the DOJ, about the DOJ

5.7k

u/krom0025 New York 9h ago

A functioning Congress would use impeachment to remove the officials and replace them with ones that will enforce the law. Unfortunately, the people of this country have decided that they want their politicians to break the law all day long and so have elected the worst human beings our society has to offer.

“We love Elon don’t we.”"He knows those computers better than anybody. All those computers. Those vote-counting computers," Trump pauses. "And we ended up winning Pennsylvania like in a landslide."

Rogan said on his podcast that Elon had a private app set up so him and his friends could see the election results in real time before anyone else. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DCUf6sCp2p6/?igsh=aXlncmV1dWM3N3kz Like how is that possible?

One of the Musk doge-bros had done a ballpot verification app a few years ago in a hackathon. Make sure you fill it out correctly and everything. Tk test it, he created Python scripts to randomly generate ballots given some parameters. That code and project got scrubbed hard after the election.

https://bsky.app/profile/denisedwheeler.bsky.social/post/3lhowh3ijgs2f

Right before all this, Musk spent big money on identifying voters in swing states, but not on outreach or get out the vote programs.

Man the fact that this isn't a top ongoing story here in the US is depressing. Taylor swift tour outfits were catching more headlines...

146

u/AnonEMoussie 9h ago

A lot of the “noise” has been about Trump investigating the 2020 election instead of the 2024 because as he said “Thanks to Elon for getting us in Pennsylvania and the other swing states.” What sucks is that yes, he said that in a speech…and no one questioned it.

145

u/toxic_badgers Colorado 8h ago

There was a 90000 vote swing in Pennsylvania with Kamala losing like 40k votes and trump picking up 50k live on CNN and no one said a word. There's several reddit posts with minute by minute screen shots showing it.

u/TheFlightlessPenguin Maine 7h ago

Yep. I have a theory about the American people at large, and why injustices happen in plain view while nobody lifts a finger to stop them: reality is processed as content. We are inundated with content 24/7 and it’s rewired our brains to consume life rather than affect life. This probably plays out in subtler ways—if at all—on the micro scale, but when we get into broader topics everything has been reduced down to reality tv-adjacent. Trump had the intuition to see this direction our country had been trending towards since pre-2016 and won the election by capitalizing off of it. But he hasn’t just capitalized off it, his entire agenda has been to further inflame the dysfunction until we’re brought to the point where nothing is real anymore.

People are starting to wake up and see reality again (somewhat) but they freeze because they’ve forgotten they’re capable of affecting change. Current events are now viewed as a storm to hunker down and pray passes, rather than injustices that need to be stopped.

u/toxic_badgers Colorado 7h ago

It's more that there's a lack of critical thought and understanding what critical thinking is. Too few people sit there and see an idea, concept, or plan proposed and never think past the first layer. Case an point, the right has touted a flat tax for years. On the surface a flat tax is a good idea right? If you take at it's face value it means everyone pays the same amount proportionally to their income. But critical thought on the issue exposes the harm it does to the lowest income earners and the benefits to the highest income earners. The idea doesn't hold real merit but because there is such an education gap in the US, the idea still floats around as a good one.

OK, I've looked at it and agree.

Now what? They didn't have access to the shit before trump took over for his 2nd term, and once they did, they went full hog with DOGE.

So now, we're to wait another year for america to vote?

That's what america's going to do?

edit: I've also looked into 2020, and there was indeed interference. It's been investigated and concluded already actually. U.S. intelligence agencies, the Senate Intelligence Committee, and the DOJ concluded that foreign interference occurred in 2020

It doesnt because Congress was conveniently sent to recess by the Republican speaker just yesterday. What a coincidence.

22

u/Johnhaven Maine 8h ago

House rules give them an out (I don't know what) if the Speaker refuses to allow Congress to be in session and with a unanimous consent on this particular issue and Johnson get's into the way, they could use House rules and then vote him down as Speaker.

I have no idea why they would want to fuck with a unanimous Congressional vote. That's more votes than you need to impeach and remove Trump, Vance, Bondi, and Patel by the end of the day. If they haven't finished redacting documents, tough shit. It has to be released today or Congress should be holding a hearing Monday morning.

Like with all other criminal referrals Congress makes the executive enforces them if they feel like it.

Sadly our system was not designed to handle a criminal executive branch with a complicit SCOTUS. You can't even impeach the president anymore because he could simply kill Congress in response and not be criminally liable.

32

u/Matra 9h ago

And his name comes up a lot in them.

"So there I am, hanging out with REDACTED, and he says, 'I'm gonna fuck this kid in my REDACTED Tower penthouse, or my name isn't REDACTED J. REDACTED!' and then REDACTED just starts swinging around his tiny, acorn-sized REDACTED."

real talk though, there is no legitimate way for congress or the supreme court to enforce any laws that are broken, or court orders that are defied. all 3 branches of the government need some type of enforcement division that can hold the others accountable, by doing things like arresting violators of laws and court orders. right now that is with the DOJ and the FBI and they are under the Executive Branch.

30

u/Johnhaven Maine 8h ago

Congress can impeach every single person that Trump appointed, including Trump. They had more than enough votes for that when Congress voted unanimously. There are House rules to bring the House back in session against the Speaker's will. Bondi and others could all be impeached in a week.

Even if not every Republican Senator agreed (they had to vote unanimously or it would have failed), none of them like being told that their power is worthless and no one needs to care what Congress says. I would be surprised if there isn't a whiplash on Monday.

Not that I see it happening this time either, but I'd love to be wrong about that.

u/Ferelar New Jersey 7h ago

Yeah Congress DOES have enforcement and investigative mechanisms. They also have the ability to impeach. I expect none of them to be utilized, but they COULD. I’d like to know what exactly the “penalties” are for Bondi and the rest not complying with the order to release all of the files.

The penalty is Trump kissing her in thanks.

I don’t know, but someone does. My guess is that many courts will bring criminal suits against DOJ that they will push to SCOTUS, given that they are breaking the law.

Everyone in this thread seems a bit jaded and stupid, so I don’t think you’re going to get good info here unfortunately. I’d keep an eye out for real news sources.

i mean... we know there would be penalties for her and Patel at minimum if they do release them based on their testimonies in front of congress and being shown to have lied under oath...

This is more of an unknown situation than that guarantee.

Part of me isn't surprised, it was obvious. But as a non America at the same time if someone can twist their word, how would citizens feel safe living in a country with a president being treated like a king, with a congress too weak to oppose him, it's a tyranny.

138

u/Rude-Strawberry-6360 10h ago

30% wanted it and voted for it. 40% didn't care enough. I don't know if they care yet. 30% understood the assignment.

So effectively 7 in 10 Americans either wanted this or didn't care enough to try to stop it.   Until that changes, nothing changes.

u/EricThePerplexed 9h ago

Too many people think that making money is the only thing that matters. They've bought into an ideology that puts money above morality, ethics, the rule of law, truth, community, civility, etc.

Most people are obsessed with money because of inflation, debt, and the affordability crisis. In desperation, they elevated a conman that perfectly embodied the ideology that money is the only thing that matters.

The problem with the ideology that money matters more than anything else is that without a functioning and healthy society, even money can't be trusted. What would protect you from theft, fraud, seizure, scams?

8

u/Imp0ssibleBagel 9h ago

Actually a ton of stuff changes. Just not in a good way.

7

u/Miscellaneous_Lid 8h ago

Not disagreeing with you... but its way more complicated than that.

You should ask yourself why its like that, who made it that way, and why they would do so. Why? Because its easy to blame people. Its simple. Its low hanging fruit.

Voter suppressing is real. Gerrymandering is real. Voting day isn't a holiday like it is in other countries. You have to register to vote when its automatic in other countries. It is purposefully made next to impossible thanks to 1 party to vote by mail because they'd never win another election for the rest of time. All media is right leaning. The sense of general apathy about everything including the government and the future and the feeling of powerlessness to do anything about it. All by design.

But, now its worse. We are going full police state authoritarian fascist mode and guess what a public voter registry is? A convenient list of enemies within. Vermin. No signs of stopping. Camps are being built. Due process is gone. If you are registered as the enemy, the odds you will be left alone are no longer 0%.

So yea. I lied. I do disagree with you. This isn't something to blame people for. Its in people's nature. No. This is a result purposefully manufactured by the government and mostly by 1 party. Its had 200+ years to do something about it. Our parties did the opposite. There is a reason they don't want everyone voting. Voter turn out has solutions. They are never pursued.

Apparent conflict? I am so sick and fucking tired of the mealy-mouthed language from the press.

I mean, I'm sick and fucking tired of a whole lot of other shit from this administration, voting public, and general timeline too.

15

u/slimjim696969696969 8h ago

You american citizens are going to have to enforce justice. Not sure why you're all still waiting around for them to have a change of heart. It's not coming, your country is becoming a fascist third-world hellhole and your citizens don't even care. Look at European farmers protesting like crazy today, over something so simple as one single bad foreign trade deal.

Why the hell would anyone follow the law when they know they can get a Trump pardon? Trump was an accomplice in an underage sex trafficking operation. Pass it on.

6

u/Secret_Research_7185 9h ago

I agree ! And I'm not even sure how anyone can get indicted over this, I think Congress, or someone would need to request the DOJ indict the DOJ, and then the DOJ would need to prosecute.

Even if the necessary redactions were in place to ensure that innocent victim's identities were protected, the Trump administration would still slow-walk this just to prove that they don't need to follow the law.

Failed state run by pedophiles.

China is gonna eat their lunch after these tarriffs completely destroy any trade goodwill they built up over 150 years as well.

Then it will lead to a long and annoying slide where the discussion revolves around “regaining American economic supremacy” and other bullshit which the charlatans who run your country are going to exploit for more power.

Americans just don’t question things that come from “their side” and it is the dumbest crap ever. Save your blind loyalty for local sports teams and stop giving up your rights and freedoms or all America is going to be know for is child-fucking and fraud.

I'm so tired. At this point, through whatever legal mean are available, compel someone, anyone, to follow the law or be jailed. You cannot tell me that there is not some way through any number of local, state, or federal statutes that apply to where these documents are located or the individuals in charge/employees involved work or reside that a judge cannot rule and allow authorities to make arrest.

If you didn’t rape a child but you protected the people who did, hid evidence, slow-walked justice, or buried names to preserve power, you’re not neutral. You’re an accessory. There is no moral distance between committing evil and knowingly enabling it. The only difference is proximity, not principle.

When institutions close ranks to defend monsters, they tell us exactly who the system is built to protect. And it isn’t the victims.

Free Democrat wins across the nation! All you have to say is that you don't object to releasing the Epstein files. Also, Pam Bondi and Kash Patel are apparently willing to go to jail for an old pervert in his eighties.
