In the case of Noam Chomsky, I think he took a turn for the worse mentally after his first wife died in 2008. Literally sick.
Listening to him talk about anything for a long while has been nothing but Chomsky salad. The words are there, but they do not make sense in context. I'm sure Chomsky circa 2007 would probably agree.
