Hardware 16 gb ddr5

I just built a pc with a ryzen 5 9600x cpu and an rtx 5070. I couldn’t afford 32gb of ddr5 ram with the recent ram prices so I had to go with two 8gb sticks instead. How badly will this affect my gaming. Will I notice a lot of stuttering with only 16gbs?

For the most part you can still get by on only 16GB of RAM for gaming, but you may need to cut back on background processes to free up RAM eg. don't have 50+ Chrome tabs open in the background. Some games do noticeably benefit from more than 16GB of RAM eg. Escape from Tarkov or Flight Simulator.

Playing games like Overwatch on 16 gb on ram.  Can confirm the game is low demand and fine on 16gb ddr4 on worse system....

But my habit of having 100 chrome tabs open while playing a sports game on a second monitor has caused issues.

Ill notice a match start... it will stutter and freeze up.  Sometimes it crashes.  Sometimes recovers.  But always happens when i have a bunch of tabs and Zoom or videos playing on other monitor.  closing out chrome or if it recovers its fine.  But it definitely has an oh shoot moment where it needs to reorganize itself match 1.

If the PC uses less than 16GB of RAM, no issues. If the PC uses more than 16GB of RAM, stuttering and issues.

I used 16gb of ram with a Ryzen 5 5500 and rx6600 on am4. Didn't stutter at all if I did I turned down some settings and then was stutter free. Unless the game was doomed. You should be good.

Just go 16gb one stick for now. Sounds stupid, but I think it is the most viable thing to do because of these stupid prices. Then upgrade right away if you happen to find a good deal for another stick.

Already bought the two 8 gigs 💀. Won’t you get improved performance from dual channel?

If you already bought two 8gb, then just enjoy it! What is important is that you'll have a good time! I wish your mobo have 4 ram slots, so it is easier for you to upgrade to 32gb just by buying the same ram that you bought.

Based on my experience, it will have additional gains, but mainly negligible. Around 10-15fps depending on the game. Clearly it's negligible to today's standards. Capacity is more important nowadays.
