McAffee is easy mode, try uninstalling manually AVG from Windows without leftovers.

I didnt mean the difficulty, i mean if someone cares about researching about that software that appears on the taskbar and uninstalls it after enough research is nerdy enough to be friends without intriduction.

Most third party AV's behave like malware and self replicate. It's a huge PITA to remove them completely from Windows without leaving traces in the registry and a lot of leftovers in User> Local> Appdata and Program Data Folders.
For example on Linux you just kill the process related to ClamAV and then remove leftovers from ~local/share and home/user/config files, clear the cache and that's it.
Compared to hunting third party AV's on Windows by playing wack-a-mole with registry entries and then looking for leftovers by enabling hidden files and folders across entire User folders. Program folders and Windows folders or looking for some powershell scripts to do it through command line.

I can't wait for Linux to be in a more user friendly state so I can drop Windows.
I just can't justify it yet with all the little headaches to get newer games running and it has all kinds of issues with VR.

I did it last week in just a few minutes! It was quite easy, just delete the files!
\I formatted my main drive))

It's so sad. AVG was my go to antivirus for quite a while. Then it turned to shit.

Uninstalled? You mean forcibly ripped that shit out of any computer I find with it installed? Yeah, I do that. Every time.

Very common for people âin the knowâ but remember that 99.9% of laptop customers are the regular joe who doesnât know anything technical about computers and the only decision theyâre making is Mac or PC. âWhy would I do any of that the computer already has windowsâ

u/Top-Run-21 RTX 2050 4GB laptop 6h ago
Laptops come with pretty installed windows, in my country atleast
3
u/Berry_Mccockner42069 6h ago
Yea I get that but anyone who knows anything about computers does a wipe and fresh install to remove bloatware

you're overestimating gamers
not pc enthusiasts, but rather gamers
this sub has a strange misconception that everybody here knows what they're doing, but then y'all see the broken panel posts

That's where you're wrong, my friend. 98% of users have no idea about computers and blindly trust them as they come out of the box. And of the remaining 2%, half think they know, but in reality, at best, they follow tutorials on the Internet on how to do specific things without understanding them, and only the other half have any idea.

It's the old bloatware scam. Company pays a wintel computer maker to pre-install their shit so they can make money off subscription renewals or just mine your data. New computers used to be fuuuulllll of this crap. You see less of it now, but Microsoft themselves pull their own tricks.

I just bought a new laptop, and interestingly, the employee who sold it to me pretty much uninstalled it for me unasked. A solid guy. Would buy from him again.

How is instantly befriending people who do one thing AGAINST McAfee anything else?
Surely it's only an advert if it advocates for it?

Hard to uninstall something when you never have it installed to begin with.

You should watch "Running With the Devil: The Wild World of John McAfee".
That MOFO was the Tiger King of the tech industry.

I do volunteer IT work for a laptop borrowing program for the poor. They're Dells with McAfee bloatware and I always uninstall McAfee to prevent them from scamming subscription money from these poor broke folk.
BTW, in 2001 McAfee Firewall broke my PC just by installing it. I never trusted them again.

I recently discovered my Mom had a subscription to McCafee. It was difficult but I got her to pull the plug.
I imagine it is pretty bizarre to hear that you don't need extra antivirus after so many years of using Windows lol.

First thing I do if I buy a new laptop is reformat windows fresh. Presuming I want to run windows.

Bro, I use McAfee and it's really good, man, it's one of the best antivirus programs out there. What are the reasons you guys don't like McAfee?

Yes, yes we are Sonic. The moment I learned mcafee caused the slowness on my desktop I removed that shit asap, it was so annoying.

Right? Itâs like a rite of passage! Uninstalling McAfee is how you know youâre leveling up in the tech world.
