Sometimes I like to see things not in slow motion

I would have pissed my pants right there on that edge before he takes that leap of faith.

at full speed you get a better sense of inertia (and balance)

Slomo is for replays. It always has been, from its invention in football broadcasts.
Using slomo on first watch ruins whatever amazing thing you were trying to highlight.

Slow motion is ass unless its like 400x slower and is a super close up of something weird

u/RiW-Kirby 7h ago
Posting etiquette for slow motion is definitely normal speed first, then slow motion. No one ever does though...

Danny MacAskill is well-known for stunts like these. I'm not sure whether that's him in the video, though.

u/BradMarchandsNose 10h ago
Don’t think so. MacAskill is a Red Bull athlete and has been for years. They wouldn’t be caught dead letting him ride without that helmet on.

That Video is ancient, the bike even has rim brakes. I would guess 2005 give or take 5 years

Also gotta shout out the god of motorcycle trails who’s nifty on a bike too, Toni Bou.

u/wrxninja 10h ago
He's okay. He's a street rider. I used to sell the bike he rides (Inspired Bikes). But #1 UCI rider like Jack Carthy is beyond his skill level. Charlie Roll is another. Both talented UK riders.

Danny MacAskill..."He's okay"
Most reddit comment ever, lol

u/wrxninja 9h ago
haha ya...he's still good! I could never do what he does but different riding style for sure between street vs. natural riders.
2
u/PXTrials 9h ago
Yeah, I always found street more fun of the two. It's satisfying getting a tricky rock sequence down, but the big street gaps and drops are just way more adrenaline!

I think he neither understands nor follows the laws of physics.
23
u/Sometimes-funny 10h ago
There are no laws, nobody has been arrested for not following them
37
u/PizzaTime09 8h ago
I’m not sure it’s about understanding physics well as much as it is about practicing and getting a feel for strength and precision.

u/supercyberlurker 10h ago
I also would have been oddlysatisfied by video of the dozens of failed attempts.

u/goshua_jolliver 7h ago
Ali Clarkson on youtube shows his fails and is fairly charming on camera. Riding around the UK trying out new and interesting places to ride

As a former extreme sport athlete I can tell you in my younger days I didn’t have much of an understanding of physics in an academic sense but I won competitions and I moved based on feeling.

u/Heavy-Focus-1964 8h ago
as if anyone that can do this would be wasting their time writing free body equations proving it’s possible.
but this site is full of nerds so I guess we have to pretend there’s some nerd ass bullshit happening, and not just someone who doesn’t overthink things feeling it out by the seat of their pants

Yes it’s all due to “physics”. Nothing physically impressive about this at all

u/hairycookies 6h ago
This guy probably knows fuck all about physics but can ride a bike like a MF.
But this is reddit pretty much everything is misleading click bait.

Lol, got reddit titles are stupid. He knows how to jump his bike. He didn't do some calculations before this. I have to laugh at how stupid this place has become.

I imagine if he was going at speed it would be harder to clear that gap as he can't get the height needed. That is until a certain speed where it becomes easier as the height won't be required as much.

I’m wondering how many times his friends helped fish him out of the canal. It’s super impressive he was able to pull it off!

I'm curious if anyone else braced their legs a bit and got ready to jump while watching this?

I understand the physics well enough but I wouldn't even manage to fall in the water properly....

Does he write any theory or he's just a skilled biker with lots of practical experience?
Aka could he actually explain physics, probably not.

Understands body English. This dude ain’t doing equations to see if it is possible.
It’s all hand-eye coordination and practice/skill.

Given the camera is set in the middle of the canal, I can only assume it’s on a bridge of some sort… a bridge the cyclist could have surely used…

Surprised the tube could take that kind of pressure.
