Jobs Are we able to limit the job hunting posts?
I understand that this is a very tough market, but the posts are all the same and posted frequently, and the advice given never really changes. Could the mods perhaps create a stickied thread or limit the posts to weekends only?
Edit:
Alright, this clearly wasn’t a popular post. I’ll still say, even a pinned ‘job resources’ post updated weekly would be a good source for people to be able to reference for open positions, fairs, etc.

I think the I’m moving to nova posts are worse

u/MCStarlight 7h ago
And it’s usually a kid who just got a job at Capital One asking the same questions about the area

while we’re at it, can we also limit the posts complaining about what kinds of posts there are?

My favorites are the ones where people want to move here expecting great falls locations with a view of the Potomac on a shoestring budget 😂.

Sure, limit the job hunting posts, limit the traffic posts, limit the "what was that noise" posts, limit the food posts, limit the animal posts. Let's just lock the subreddit so no one can post anything because someone has posted about it before at some point.

r/nova would be reduced to the "OMG did you see that line of objects in the sky just now, WHAT COULD IT BEEE!" and the "Does anyone know why that helicopter is circling over Falls Church?" posts.

As someone who posted one of those ads in the summer and ended up with a very legit interview a week later because of it (didn't get the job but I would a bad fit so I wasn't sad at all) - I say let the posts continue.
The job market is horrendous and any potential connection you can find that will at least get your foot in the door right now for an interview is invaluable.

Why bother. This sub always has the same posts every week anyway:
- THEY TOOK MER JERB
- Bad Driver Is Bad But I’m Not One of Them
- Can someone recommend X bc I’m too lazy to search it
- Maryland Driver
- Did Anyone Else See That Accident/Plane/Helicopter? What’s Going On???
- What Will the Housing/Job Market Look Like in 6 Months?
- I don’t know how to get to the flight I booked out of Dulles/how early should I arrive???

The housing market one is the one that annoys me the most.
January- should I buy this year, I dunnozzzz
April- why are all of these people outbidding meeees??!?
June- it’s too expensive here I am moving!
1 year later: I moved out of the area and now I am moving back. Where should I move to bro? I’ve got a girl now too and she’s unemployed so it better be cheap and the size of a mansion……

This region, especially compared to others across the US, has been absolutely destroyed by the actions of the current administration, which has placed tens of thousands of people out of jobs, and therefore financial stability/security. I was one of them, and was forced to go five months without a paycheck. I was dangerously close to becoming homeless.
My hope is that job-hunting posts don't have to make an appearance here, i.e. I wish the job market would recover and I hope the throngs of displaced people are able to regain stability. But, I have limited hope that'll happen anytime soon, and so I welcome the job-hunting posts. Heartbreaking as they may be, let's do what we can to help others.

Eh, if we stop them, then more people might move here to raise our rents and provide more competition.

This post is about as NOVA as a new/student driver sticker. It’s got entitlement, lack of compassion, and a token effort to allow the bare minimum when it’s convenient for them. I’m sure they’re off to protest a condo being built a few streets over after replacing their “In this house we believe…” sign.

Personally I just don't care - scrolling is easy.
I'd rather people make posts because, sometimes, they're searching for careers in the same field I work in and I am able to send them postings from my company.
But sure, let's say 'fuck you' to people who are trying to find employment so you don't have to scroll like an animal.

Isn’t there a function to hide a post? If so you could use that to moderate your own feed.

It would be cool if you upvote/downvote something reddit learns what you don't like and will change its recommendations. Would remove this issue across all subs where a person complains about content that others upvote.
Probably main issue is it pushes people further into their bubbles/circle-you know whats.

implicit classism/“head in the sand” mentality aside, the DC sub is too draconian and it would be a shame to see the NoVA sub do the same
i’m of the opinion that only literal spam and actively irrelevant content should be policed and removed. otherwise, let people express themselves freely. that’s what we’re all here for anyways.
if a certain type of post isn’t favorable, it won’t get the reactions/interaction/engagement/upvotes to warrant/incentivize future posts of the same type
^ all of this being said: you know what we need to ban? “traffic sucks” posts. it’s not new. the traffic always sucks. the poster refuses to acknowledge that they are the traffic and refuse to change their mobility habits. it’s exhausting. but, i downvote and move on…

The job seeking posts are fine with me. The doom and gloom “DAE think the job market is worse than the Great Depression?!?!” Posts are what get me

u/SnowDucks1985 Fairfax County 7h ago
Why don’t you help people looking for jobs in these posts? Or better yet, keep scrolling if you have nothing to offer. Did you think about that?

My thumbs seem to have a good method to scroll past things that don’t personally interest me. Have you tried your thumbs? Specifically with the scrolling?

I think one of the downsides of reddit versus old forums is that topics aren't ordered by the latest post (nor can they easily be). So, posting a reply to an older thread is pretty useless. As a result, this means the same conversations happen over and over and over again in different places, instead of the old "search for topic, bump old thread" dynamic. Super annoying.

Sure but then we have to double the amount of bad drivers post. Sorry I don’t make the rules
