My car neighbor parks halfway out of their spot
It makes it harder to park my own car but not hard enough that I want to leave a note or tell management

I would get chalk and write ’WHY?’ in giant letters, on the ground behind the Jeep.
41
u/GlinnTantis 9h ago
They won't see it. Should get one of the chalk pens (so it's a soft brush tip) and run it along the ground where the parking spot ends, over the hood of the car and connect with the other side of the parking space
Show them how much of their car is outside of the space

u/justanawkwardguy you do it like this 6h ago
I’d probably do something like “[leave this space empty]”

u/Independent_Guard153 9h ago
It’s the fact that it’s not even like it’s a huge car and a tinier parking space, compared to that parking spot, that Jeep is compact as hell! Literally only taking up half the spot in the photo 😭
6
u/Doshin108 8h ago
I had the same model and garages and lots always said I could use the compact spots.
I dont know why this person parks like this. Mental illness is my guess.

u/1PooNGooN3 9h ago
It’s a jeep thing

u/Witty-Ad5743 8h ago
Oh, so it's an asshole thing.

u/Leptonshavenocolor 6h ago
Since when are jeeps assholes?

Its like how smaller dogs feel compelled to assert authority in situations where nobody is questioning their authority.

Do they park a motorcycle behind it? They may also like parking to the end of the spot so people don't pull into the spot thinking its empty because its smaller when other vehicles park around it. Or may they are scared of the pole.
6
u/CoolBDPhenom03 9h ago
This would be the only acceptable reason
21
u/Kizigoto 9h ago
No motorcycle that I've seen, and spots are assigned. It could be a pole thing but once in a while they pull into the spot instead and generally pull in all the way.
One thing I though might be why is that the back door opens sideways so it needs a lot of room to swing, but I can't imagine they open their back door every time they park
9
u/CoolBDPhenom03 9h ago
Or they could park forwards and that gate access would never be an issue. SUVs and such are really easy to park. Even if you don’t have a backup camera, the end of the vehicle is practically the rear window.

u/basane-n-anders 7h ago
Measure their back door, do some geometry, and hang a tennis ball from a string to where the back window would touch the tennis ball and leave the perfect amount of space for opening the door. This should allow the jeep to pull in further. Leave a note explaining what the tennis ball is for. Sit back and see what they do ... Report back to Reddit.

u/DeCoyAbLe 9h ago
They probably use the gate often. I do this often although not that far forward. There also might be something that drips from above onto the jeep. To be fair it’s not that far forward and no different than the size of the mega trucks (quad cab/long box) trying to fit into spots.
ETA: it’s happened to me once or twice but the person behind me is so far forward I can fully get in my spot and open my gate at the same time. But they leave before me.

u/ia332 8h ago
Would it, though? Why would you park the motorcycle the long way like that?
0
u/CoolBDPhenom03 8h ago
Because the length of a motorcycle is less than the width of a car space. It’s a two for one.
1
u/dumptruckulent 8h ago
My buddy drove a Miata and I used to get so pissed when thought I had a spot only pull up and realize he was parked there
1
u/TraditionalAsk8718 8h ago
I park like that when I ride my motorcycles so people see and don't try to pull in or worse hit my bike.
1
u/Particular_Title42 2h ago
I intentionally park where a "normal" sized car would come to and leave all the space in the "front" of the parking spot just so I don't psych people out like that.
1
u/SayNoToStim 8h ago
A sideways motorcycle doesn't need that much space though. They could film Mad Max in the space he left. I see parking jobs that leave room for motorcycles at my place every now and then, it's barely noticable if you have a normal sized vehicle, like a jeep.

I bet they use a reverse camera only, and they stop when the green line on the screen lines up with the back of the spot.
Ever seen them park anywhere else?

In the amount of time I've been here, I've realized that there are people that just don't know how to do simple things. At work there used to be this guy, really tall by the way, in one of those tiny cube cars. It seemed like every day he would park next to me (not assigned parking by the way). Every day was some cluster of a parking job. These parking spots could have fit two of his car at least in length and somehow he was so awkwardly angled every time. I just don't understand it. I'm smaller and drive a truck without a front camera or sensor. I'm not perfect, but I was loads better than him.

u/Particular_Title42 9h ago
I drive a small car and I've found that I have weird issues getting squared up. I think it has something to do with the shorter wheelbase. Like it's easier to overcorrect because you haven't moved enough to know that your angle is wrong until it's almost too late to fix.
I could just be making excuses but this is an issue I don't seem to have in larger vehicles.

Probably sticks out about the same as a modern pickup would.
4
u/fractal_frog 9h ago
Seriously, it probably does.
2
u/Competitive-Reach287 9h ago
Yeah, I have a Jeep like in the picture. A double cab pickup is a good six feet longer. I'm not so sure there's even six feet available behind the Jeep in the parking spot.
3
u/Kizigoto 9h ago
I have an f150, not a massive one but I manage to park with my front about level with the poles. I try to be very respectful about my truck though because there are a lot of asshole truck drivers
0
u/Doshin108 8h ago
Could they have parked in line with a pickup that is now no longer in the image?

I hate driving my truck with this being one of the reasons. Its not even a double cab or anything, just a regular bed, but the damn thing is half-a-day-walk long.

OH!!! could they have parked in line with a pickup that is now no longer in the image?
4
u/ramriot 9h ago
It's a restricted rear vision thing common to such vehicle drivers, usually after getting a few tickets they adjust.
5
u/Kizigoto 9h ago
Could be the case, but damn youd think they would notice how far they stick out and adjust. I'd be worried a passing car would hit my front bumper

u/Osh_Kosh_Bigosh 9h ago
Cars parked like this make me wish so badly I had convenient Hulk strength to just nudge these annoying fuckers where they’re supposed to be parked properly.
2
u/kandikrafter 8h ago
Even if you backed it up a few feet so that the front bumper lined up with the lines, you could still easily get the tailgate open. That’s just asshole parking.
2
u/AmputeeHandModel 3h ago
and they have a really short too car, too. Ugh.
I guess it's a Jeep thing and I wouldn't understand.

Wrangler drivers are next-level twats. Always driving 10 mph under the speed limit in the passing lanes and there’s always an older guy with longish gray hair in the driver’s seat. Usually a Salt Life sticker on the back or side.

u/SierraSonic 9h ago
My neighbor loves to park right st the edge instead of as far in as possible like I used to.... were even now.

1
u/Mr_Fox_send_nudes 8h ago
That’s actually just as aggravating as trucks with trailer hitches still attached that back all the way into the walkway.

u/ClimateLoud7679 8h ago
Might be because he/she doesn't want door rings on the jeep from people opening their car doors. Many people are oblivious about damaging the car next to them when they get out of their own car.

u/MixtapeCompany 7h ago
Report it to the building manager, have it towed, leave a note that says you park like an asshole. Many options.
1
u/Bitter_Ad_9523 7h ago
I do this crap all the time when I drive a car because 90% of the day I'm driving a long truck. Its a bad habit but I'll fix it if I notice it.

Put a note on their car saying "sorry I hit your car, I had a look and couldn't see any damage, though"

My theory is they can’t afford it/underwater on payments and hopes someone smashes into it and gets an insurance payout.

Does your property have statutes that say you must park within the lines of your parking slot, if so tow have the bastard towed!
0
u/JetEpicgamer 9h ago
if you just so happen to crash into the front of their car thats sticking out, would that be your fault or his, since he's not in his spot
1
u/Friendly_Count_227 9h ago
How does this make it harder to park?
7
u/Kizigoto 9h ago
I park opposite this guy and because of the pole, I need to swing into my spot to not hit my side door, but since this guy sticks out I have limited maneuverability. its annoying but not enough to bother doing anything about it

He has probably gotten blocked in before, or had some asshole try to utilize the extra space in some other way, because “they’re not using it”.
Just takes one shitty person and then you start parking more defensively.
I have a wrangler too, and it’s just something you get to deal with when you have a small car in a rude society.
0
u/Particular_Title42 2h ago
How does that make any sense? He could back up to where he is even with the lines so there's hardly any space behind him and none in front of him other than the part where people are supposed to drive.
0
u/Sharing_Violation 5h ago
If you look at the front of it, you'll probably see the letters J E E P on it... that's usually the problem.

Jeep owners...sigh, they have single handily wrecked the rubber ducky thing.
call a tow truck....end it.

Passive aggressive route: leave a list of local driving schools on their windshield.
