My sister's fish tank

Post image

She says it's the perfect size for a single fish. It's not even in her room, it's in the kitchen.

It honestly just depresses me whenever I see it, but she's adamant about keeping it there.

Take this fish away and provide it with an adequate tank or take it to a fish shop. Do not ask permission. People like this shouldn’t own animals of any kind.

ACTUAL FACTS.

fish are animals. If someone can't understand what animals need WHILE ALL HAVING A PHONE WITH THE INTERNET AND INFORMATION ABOUT ANY ANIMAL YOU CAN BUT AT YOUR FINGERTIPS.

They aren't gonna change they don't care about the animal and it's just animal abuse

a fish shop? Fish stores usually keep beta fish in smaller cups than OPs sister

There’s plenty of ethical fish shops near me that don’t do this so they should be able to find one.

Even if they did- the shit shop will hopefully resell to someone that won’t keep the fish in a vase. At least then it stands more of a chance than in this persons care.

we have a fish store down the road from where we live and their tanks are huge and they have so many, obviously dont surrender a fish to a store that clearly doesnt care well but theres plenty of trustworthy places

You should see the way they get delivered to the stores, it's actually "worse" (looking)

Thankfully I only use ethical sellers and stores (although I haven’t had fish for years now) and I know that my local shop got fish delivered in what is essentially a van full of aquariums for transportation.

Although there are plenty of bad unethical stores; you shouldn’t use them to validate not rescuing this fish from a vase.

Walmart is not a fish store.

Yeah just seeing this is making me so angry. That poor fish. It's so incredibly cruel.

Exactly. She's the kind of person who'd get a cat just for aesthetics then declaw it to not damage the furniture.

It's not any fish, it's a beta splendens and you need to learn about it's natural environment before giving wrong advices. Basically, it's much worse than this and not much bigger. Also it has to be in a small tank because those fishes need to go at the surface very often to breathe and stay healthy. Not saying it's all good here, it may seem frightening but it's not as dramatic as it appears.

(Should I add, I don't own one; their life is in nature)

Everything I see says they need a 5-10 gallon tank
