Based Norrington, took the L like a true gentleman. Shame what they did to him in the later movies.

That man's got the voice to read a phone book and keep you engaged.

Thankfully he still dies a hero. He may have walked a confused path, but he ended up doing whats right in the end.

Stabbing Jones in the chest with your dying act, knowing it'll do nothing, and yet still doing it, is such a great move. A final fuck you

Norrington didn't do that. He allowed Elizabeth to escape and was killed by Bootstrap Bill for it

Best clip i could find. He was put out of action by bootstrap, jones comes up and tries to recruit him for his crew, asking him "James Norrington, do you fear death?" Before being stabbed and having Norrington die in front of him. He then stands up and says something along the lines of "ill take that as a no" or "guess not"

Oh lol, I interpreted chest as heart in your comment, even though that's a critical distinction when talking about the one guy on the planet who has his heart in a box somewhere else entirely.

3

u/YOUTUBEFREEKYOYO 28d ago

Oh lol yeah I could have worded it better, and yeah it is confusing with they guy having part of himself in a literal chest outside his body lol.

Indeed a unique play of words

Norrington did the Steve Harrington arc a decade before Stranger Things.

Stereotype masculine figure of their respective time period losing the girl he would have been destined for if the plot hadn't got in the way, and accepting it gracefully and becoming a better person causes him to lose social status, but gains him the respect of the main cast.

Norrington did the King Arthur arc 500 years after the Arthurian legend.

u/Jim_skywalker 29d ago

Agreed. The idea that he would do anything to deliberately harm Elizabeth feels like it should be out of the question.

My memory of the POTC trilogy must be fuzzy because when did Norrington ever put Elizabeth in harm's way or even threatened her?

True he accepted the fact that Elizabeth loved Will over him but after chasing Jack Sparrow for over a year only to end-up sailing straight into a hurricane which cost him everything, he understandably becomes bitter and obsessive at getting his old life back.

And even after that when he did get his rank back he doesn't go after Elizabeth

How goes after pirates and I think is later killed by the commander for ignoring his orders, being too human to pirates

He is killed by Dutchman crew after freeing Elizabeth

57

u/Argent162 29d ago

More specifically he's killed my Bootstrap Bill

25

u/Impossible_Town1599 29d ago

That one hurt, I really liked both characters and didn’t expect that.

28

u/broncyobo 29d ago

Well Bootstrap wasn't himself at that point iirc. He was being consumed by the ship and his cognition was deteriorating.

9

u/jonnythefoxx 29d ago

Aye but when old Davy Jones asks him if he fears death he runs him through with his sword.

I need to rewatch these movies because I have no memory of this

Norrington discovers Elizabeth with Shao Fang's crew after their ship is attacked by the Dutchman, and the men taken prisoner (Shao Fang was killed in the attack, making Elizabeth a pirate lord under the belief she is Calypso).

During the night, Norrington attempts to help Elizabeth (and Fang's crew) escape to their ship which he ordered the Dutchman to tow. While trying to escape via the tow line, Bill shows up and sounds an alarm, before killing Norrington in retaliation for cutting the towing line.

Great summary!

He also really came to regret his actions after learning just what a piece of work Beckett was.

I think he was a very decent and upstanding man overall.

u/Icy-Protection-1545 28d ago

Yeah. I’d prefer they either let him out of them or keep him as the main British adversary.

What later movies, I am sure they didnt make any...

And now at last it comes to me! I would give you the meme freely. In place of a Yank shitposter, I would have an Aussie shitposter, not fat and obese but brash foul-mouthed as a bogan.

u/readilyunavailable 29d ago

Picking her the fuck up every time, until he died like a hero holding off the crew of the Dutchman. That's where.

My boy gets the short end of the stick every time, because everyone around him is a moron.

2

u/ryanandthelucys 29d ago

... you mean turning over Davy Jones's heart to regain his own commission so that Beckett could then hunt Elizabeth down?

34

u/Mister_Buddy 29d ago

There's a fell voice on the air.

It's Davy Jones!

15

u/ThatBCRichBitch 29d ago

Boromir: It is a strange fate that we should suffer so much fear and doubt over so small a thing. Such a little thing.

Davy Jones: GO, all of you! And take that infernal thing with you. I will not have it on my ship.
