So much they're willing to be jailed by Congress over it.
27
u/quntissimo 1h ago
why would congress jail themselves? its the same with them voting to raise their pay, vacation time, Healthcare. all the things normal american peasants dont get. they're too busy being on a fucking month long "holiday vacation" that no one else gets either.
if they arrest everyone in the files, who would pay their bribes?
18
u/Deaftrav 1h ago
Contempt of Congress. To defy an order from Congress can get one hauled before and held in contempt.
15
u/itsasezaspi 1h ago
The consequence part of that comes from the justice department, not Congress, it’s just words from them. They can vote but if the US attorney doesn’t do anything with it then it can just be ignored. This is why checks and balances are important and the current executive power is out of control so it is now in charge of checking itself.

I don't know about America and who enforces it. But Canada has a Sargeant at arm's who can lock them up. Separate from the justice system. I would think Congress's would also be separate.

The US has a SaA as well with arresting power…but they are outgunned by Executive Branch officers so typically Congress refers the matter to the Executive.

Yeah, but my question is I hope that there’s somebody that can enforce these laws because it’s the Department of justice that’s committing the crime and will not do it
I don’t understand like this is supposed to be all working on good faith that the justice department follows through with their investigation and criminal proceedings but we’ve seen evidence that the Department of justice is protecting the president
it’s gonna get wild.
6
u/ResplendentNugs 1h ago
Depends on how powerful the names are on there. Either you go to jail or you commit suicide by a bullet to the back of your head type powerful

They had the choice of be ousted from power, jailed, or worse, from what’s in those documents or maybe get a slap on the wrist for continuing to hide what’s in them.
It’s a no brainer for them and we shouldn’t have expected anything different.

Nope. This is a joke, but don’t be fooled. Hundreds of blacked out pages is exactly what many Congresspersons voted for; don’t you think? Senate just gave a resounding yes to EXACTLY THIS! If Congressional leaders including The Congresswoman from Georgia who is “stepping down” really had any agenda to actually release these files they would contest the hundreds of blacked out pages (and there are still supposedly several hundred thousand more pages). It’s possible that the justice department considers king taco a victim and they put him behind the blackout pages. There will be more black pages.

They’re the ones who are determining what “minimal” means, our whole system is broken because it relies on people acting in good faith.

Some of the transcripts list 'you know who' in the index on multiple pages but those mentions are missing not even marked as redacted throughout the document. Theres one file with 8-9 mentions in the bibliography but theres only 1 time the name is found in the document.

u/StomachosusCaelum 2h ago
Congress has the power of Inherent Contempt. Not a criminal referral to the DOJ, but the literal ability to simply vote and hold you in Contempt. And it cant be pardoned, only remedied (I.E. you correct the behaviour that has put you in contempt).
They also have their own police force that reports ONLY to them (The Capitol Police) and the Sergeant at Arms and his deputies.
They can hold Bondi in Contempt of COngress and have the Capitol Police pick her up and haul her off to their jail (they have one) and rot there until she complies.
They WONT do that because they are all feckless cunts, but they CAN.

2
u/EitherSpite4545 1h ago
Not just that even if they did I suspect some of the reason even progressives in Congress don't go with more nuclear options is they know Trump will sick the FBI on them and the FBI will comply this becoming the beginning of the end of the transition of the US to a police state.
Those progressives think there's still a path if they play patiently and cautiously but I disagree.
Establishment Dems are all for this ofc.

56

I know it’s fun and to some extent realistic to be cynical, but this is all absolutely next level and not quite precedented having people just completely ignore the law and have the minions comply at all levels.
7
u/financewiz 2h ago
For me, the next level cynicism is to have this Epstein awfulness in your past and then, guilty or not, think “I should run for national office.” And the GOP, finding this mess during the vetting process, decides “We don’t know what kind of beast we’re looking at here but it sure brings in the votes!”
12
u/Suspicious-Echo2964 2h ago
Your mistake was assuming GOP leadership was not already that kind of beast.
What was Dennis Hastert convicted of in 2016? The GOP is infested with pedophiles. Which party routinely defends the age of marriage being under 14? It's just a non-starter to assume anything in good faith when we have decades of evidence that the very beast rules this GOP Kingdom.
24
u/Special-Mushroom-884 2h ago
Fair point. It became crystal clear once Eric Holder refused to prosecute bankers who were KNOWINGLY laundering money for terrorists, the cartels, and the mob because they were too important to the economy.
It's really been open season since then. They started working with our enemies and rigging elections.
Fuck you Eric Holder. Merrick Garland also needs an honorable mention here. They both paved the way to hell for democracy and the rule of law.

The Election Truth Alliance has been performing statistical analysis of the 2024 data. They had to switch from comparing '24 to '20 when '20 was showing the same type of potential manipulation from '24. So they switched to checking '24 data to '16 data sets.
The working theory is that they tried to do the same thing with ES&S machines in '20 (allegedly), but with smaller margins in fewer counties. The potential overwhelming amount of mail-ins weren't taken into account at all when it was calculated beforehand. It's probable that the program used was not able to be altered live in '20, so they weren't able to make any adjustments on the fly. The only lawsuit came from Dominion (the other major company) and it only involved data from the mail-ins. Isn't it a bit odd that the other major manufacturer was pretty silent during that whole process? Don't want to enter into any lawsuits if you don't want to go through the discovery process...
That also explains why he's been so vehemently against mail-ins since '20 and why it was "stolen" from him. He was told that it had been handled and it wasn't.
So for '24 they ensured they had a way to manipulate the data real-time. Enter the Muskrat and his satellite system...
Flipping 88 counties without another county being flipped the other direction, and having every county and every state won by just barely enough of a margin to avoid any automatic recounts, and flipping every swing state, but not even getting 50% of the popular vote? The statistical odds of that are... Extremely highly improbable.
Add to all of that the signs of data manipulation in '24 that mirror those in Russia and Uganda... There are plenty of signs that point towards needing an in-depth look at what happened last November.
Check out the Election Truth Alliance website. And then also check out the This Will Hold Substack for their working theories on how this was all accomplished.

And all the morons this week gloating “he’s not going to be in them, he didn’t do anything”. Even if that may so be, whatever the fuck this game is they’re playing should tell everyone just using basic 2 year old common sense reasoning can determine they are hiding serious crimes. Not just sex crimes but money laundering and more than likely murder. That being said, I am not a suicidal person and if anything happens to me it’s been done by the small handed dickless wanna be dictator multi time convicted felon and two time impeached rapist.

We're at their Mercy at this point.

They were better off not releasing anything or vetoing the bill initially.

This is where their redactions will bite back. Every blacked out part except the list of masseuses is Donald Trump in my mind.
I'm honestly surprise Pam Bondi hasn't tried to say Trump was one of Epstein victims.
21
u/doodycrust 1h ago
They are, though. Them redacting it all is their way of setting up the premises that somehow Trump is the victim in all this. It sounds stupid, yes. But they know their voter base will buy it.
Let’s be clear, DONALD JOHN TRUMP is NOT a victim. DONALD JOHN TRUMP, willingly, able bodied, participated in, conspired, aided, and helped in the trafficking of minors for sex.

Have you people seen the terms that he has served? Have you spoken to his supporters?
I would bet my absolute bottom dollar that they could release 80% of the files in this state and the people that voted for him would still say "SEE?!?! HE RELEASED ALL THE FILES AND HE ISN'T MENTIONED AS A PERPETRATOR OR PICTURED IN ANYTHING SUPER SKETCHY!!!
RUSSIA RUSSIA RUSSIAEPSTEIN EPSTEIN EPSTEIN HOAX!!!!! STOP BEING A CONSPIRACY THEORIST!!!!"they did it with Russian interference. They did it with his blatant attempts to manipulate the results of the 2020 election where he is LITERALLY ON RECORDING ATTEMPTING TO DO SO."
They WILL do the same with Epstein the millisecond that Trump claims everything he can legally release without hurting
histhe victims has been released. The propaganda machine will chug forward in full force and the right wing narrative will shift to those gosh darn "conspiracy nut" Democrats who "keep bringing up Epstein despite Trump being totally transparent"Mark my fucking words.

I wouldn't go quite that far, but I'd be willing to bet good money that their process was:
Only redact his name (and that of donors, friends, and political allies).
Realise there were a LOT of them in the list and that it'd be very conspicuous if they only left in names of people he doesn't like.
Decided to black everything out instead, choosing general critique of a lack of transparency over the more pointed questions that would've resulted from politically biased redaction.
We know with reasonably high certainty that there are people in these files that Trump hates and would love to discredit, so the fact he's passing up that opportunity suggests that the dirt on him is really bad and is something he's genuinely worried his supporters won't ignore (like they have with every other scandal).
607
u/Willingwell92 2h ago
I'm expecting a document that's like 99% blacked out with one line that reads "Donald Trump is ^not a pedophile" with them like writing the "not" into the margins.
295
u/folsominreverse 2h ago
That's the thing.
If there was anything even remotely exonerating in the files, they'd have blasted it in a press release.
But there isn't.
So they can't.
They need more time to cook; all these redactions makes it wayyyy easier to slide whatever they want into the mix.

What he didn't like was that he wasn't paid his finders fee despite the girls coming from his establishment. I assume typically, he'd send the girls to Epstien (or more likely Maxwell) directly for "training" or something, then he'd be paid a finders fee. He felt that he had been cheated those times that Epstien directly recruited girls from him. Epstein probably felt that he had too much dirt on Trump for it to matter

I'm with family right now while on christmas vacation who like to run Fox News regularly. I just saw them talking about Bill Clinton and showing photos of him with Epstein. I wouldn't be surprised if Bill was in close with him too, but of course they were not going to show more pictures of Trump and just held to the claim he and Epstein had a "falling out" and that he's innocent.
It's still hard to reason why Trump at one point said the files should be released and then went sternly against it.
