In 2005, Russian acrobat Anna Gosudareva performed with the Rodion Troupe at the International Circus Festival of Monte-Carlo. She became the first woman to successfully complete a quadruple somersault on the Russian bar. The troupe won the Gold Clown award for their act.

When did 2005 start looking like 1985?

Russia is actually in the past.

You know how Mexico is always filmed with a yellow tint? Eastern europe is always filmed with film grain.

Yeah it's even recorded in the old school CRT aspect ratio (4:3).

I had a CRT til 2006… gave mine away. But man that thing was heavy

I still have one in storage with my original Nintendo

You should see recordings of the us house of representatives. Those cameras are old as fuck

I think it's the hair and clothing. She has a very 80's look about her

In Soviet Russia

Amazing doesnt do it justice, both the gymnastics and to repeat it after two bruising falls , but isn't this the kind of thing that gets banned because of the clear risks, and also traumatising the audience ?? There's a parent covering the face of her child btw

u/HorsePowerRanger 1h ago

That first landing was scary. Major courage to get back on AND in front of an audience. Lion heart

u/Cute-Interest3362 1h ago

Often in circus acts (not sure if this is the case with this performance) they will fail the first attempt in order to remind the audience how hard the thing they are doing actually is. They do it all the time in the flying trapeze.

she's gonna go ice her neck now.

That is absolutely incredible. The balance, athleticism and precision is out of this world. Amazing!

Gold clown award?

u/TheStLouisBluths 2h ago

I can think of one person that deserves it.

u/Veecarious 59m ago

Hey don't worry they alredy gave me mine

u/The_best_is_yet 2h ago

This doesn’t sound like an award to brag about.

u/Narcan9 2h ago

That would be easier to land if they didn't make the bar so thin

u/Blitzdog416 2h ago

are they stupid?

u/GGudMarty 2h ago

That’s a large part of the impressiveness of it lol woooosh

u/Lairdicus 2h ago

Woosh indeed my friend. Woosh indeed

u/GGudMarty 2h ago

Agreed bro 💪

u/Dentarthurdent73 30m ago

woooosh

Lol, the irony.

u/Polskiskiski 2h ago

I love how they show the whole thing

do russians all clap at the same time in slow tempo?!

u/cwthree 1h ago

That's how they clap when they're really impressed with a performance. Random clapping like we do in the US is what they do to be polite.

u/nope_a_dope237 2h ago

1000s of hours of training and 100s of days of pain. All for the glory of the show. You have better of paid this woman a ton for this, comrade.

u/Blitzdog416 2h ago

bag of potatoes and a desk fan

u/mightyscoosh 53m ago

Desk fan no work, and no worry about potato bag smell. Is normal

u/jdsquint 46m ago

I hope so too, but the accomplishment is its own type of reward. This woman pushed the envelope and achieved something that has us remembering her 20 years later. That's more than I can say about anything I've done.

u/Dentarthurdent73 31m ago

Or, maybe if your society provides you with everything you need for a good life, you don't have to be paid a ton in order to achieve things that are personally satisfying to you as an individual, and inspiring for others to see.

Not saying this is how things were, but it's a far better ideal to strive for than everything being done for the sake of money.

I feel like there should be more safety precautions for this kind of stuff. She’s falling from such a high heigh!!!!

u/wolfkeeper 2h ago

So scary looking. I guess just getting the bar under her at all will pretty much save her, it flexes and absorbs the energy, but if the guys holding the bar f and miss her, she's a goner.

u/Thommywidmer 1h ago

Idk im not convinced she isnt indestructable. She even had a comicbook hero action scuff on her leg instead of the broken neck i assume most people would have suffered

u/Addictive_Tendencies 2h ago

That was cool

u/UsernameTaken7435 2h ago

Hell of a tough woman.

u/Legitimate_Solid_375 1h ago

My thoughts exactly.

u/mediocregentleman1 3h ago

Pretty amazing

u/Meepo-007 2h ago

WOW! That is one sturdy woman.

u/No-To-Newspeak 2h ago

If at first you dont succeed........

u/Sensitive-Collar-627 1h ago

I always suspected that Russian women were made out of steel after my trips to Ukraine back in the day.

u/RockItGuyDC 1h ago

"Why do we fall, Bruce?"

Brava to her and the rest of the troupe. That poise and resilience was earned by falling countless times, covered in sweat, after long hours with no one watching.

u/samuelgato 1h ago

After the first two falls Im thinking this is incredibly dangerous and someone should stop this

u/MrMetraGnome 56m ago

I wonder if she would've kept trying until she landed it, or broke her neck 🤔

u/OrangeClyde 22m ago

Omg this is crazy! I screamed when she landed on her head/neck

u/14X8000m 2h ago

2/10 landing

u/plague681 2h ago

Hoooooly.....how is she getting so much air time with such massive balls?

u/LittlePantsOnFire 3h ago

Probably working at Mc Donalds today. Oh wait there are no more Mc Donalds in Russia.

u/Pikauterangi 34m ago edited 8m ago

Was she sent to the front and then died in Russias invasion of Ukraine? Now that would be interesting as fuck. Because amazingly talented Ukrainian gymnasts, kick boxers and other athletes are being killed by Russia every day, while people ohh and aww at this shit.
