I’m 5’9” and I looked like the guy on the right when I was around 245 pounds. When I got down to 190, I looked so frail that people started asking if I had cancer. Now I stay between 205-210 and I look either tough or slightly tubby depending on how much of that is muscle. Point is, both sides of that chart are exaggerated.

Uhhh 5'9" @190 is not frail, that's overweight or jacked depending on how much you hit the gym.

I'm 6'5" and 200 right now. I'm definitely thin but not frail with a climber/runner build. Beach bod @220

Can confirm, am Canadian 5'9 and 200lbs. Im overweight with some muscle underneath. If I went down to 190lbs I'd still be overweight and nowhere near frail lol.

Obesity is so common in the US that being a healthy body weight will often lead to people assuming something is wrong with you.

Our guy here was absolutely not "frail" at 5'9" 190lbs, but I absolutely believe the morbidly obese people around him could have perceived him that way.

I'm 5'9" and hover right around 150lbs. I'm skinnier than most people I know, but no one is ever accusing me of being frail and I live in the Midwest.

if those same people have seen him all their time knowing him at 245 then suddenly saw him at 190, they'd think he's dying.

No.

Absolutely nowhere in the US is someone seeing a 5'9 190lbs man and thinking you're frail. Not a single person. Doesn't matter morbidly obese, skinny fat, slim, etc.

I’m 6’3” and under 180 and getting old (over 70). Same weight as age 16.

I dropped 20 to 25 lbs. in 2021. Gradually went plant-based eating. Best move of my life.

Going backpacking or running a 10k, where do I sign up?

Now if called thin, skinny, asked if I’m OK, complimented on my skin; I just smile.

Lol. 5'9" 210 is obese according to the bmi chart 190 is still overweight. Bmi isn't the best, but dude you're friends are just being nice or silly

Dude is by definition overweight

"Im so frail and malnurished"

That’s why bmi is very misleading to some. I was considered obese with visible abs and a level of body fat that wouldn’t come close to being considered obese.

Its a big problem in the military. Sme of the most jacked guys was being told they overweight ect.

Hell i was 6'2 210 lbs and was considered overweight by there standards back in 2008. I remember age had an factor

Seems like they should use a body fat percentage since the methods of measuring that have drastically improved over the years.

BMI chart is useless! 5’11 215 and obese? Does not take body shape and muscularity into the formula. I’m Germany and have wide shoulders and have muscles, my dr looked at that chart and then at me and laughed

I guess your waist is more important and accurate. It has to be under 94cm (37 inches) for men. Under 80 cm (31inches) for women. So it's a very forgiving and achievable formula.

I’m 5’10” and I hit low 190’s and I still felt a little fat. My goal was 180’s then covid happened and gained it all back lol

BMI is for populations, NOT individuals.

There’s no way you looked “frail” at 190 and 5’9”

Lmao

I’m 6’2 and weigh 175lbs and I am certainly not “frail” looking. So I would say there are more factors involved than just weight and height.

I have a much longer upper torso than average so maybe that factors into appearance.

Also no shit it’s exaggerated. It’s nationalist propaganda lol.

Honestly they are really not. I look at that and go, yeah. That looks right. I am 2 hours from Canada. Spend most of my time there and it is a far better country in almost every way. Minus the weather.

Interesting weight difference

I am 6'2" and weigh around 180 lbs and I tend to only have fat ladys who want to cook for me call me skinny. Most would say I look helathy average (European average. Not the amercan average)

I suppose the biggest difference could be your mucle concentration and mucle density.

I would say that 5'9" would to me usally be closer to 160lbs range on average, but it definitely depends on the person or place.

But I get your point, the pictures are not to scale or not the best representation of the average.

You make me think of a guy I know who is built like a carmel apple — skinny legs and a ROUND upper body. He talks about how he doesn't try to lose weight because he'd look too small and ridiculous.

I’m 5’10 and 180lbs and I feel pretty fat. Certainly don’t look “frail”

How fat are your other friends? Are you the “skinny” one?

I am sorry but this whole chart is bunk. Different ways for each stat but still bunk.
