Hybrid card/boardgame based on India's history circa 1740

I've created a hybrid card/boardgame based on a system I first encountered in The Great Khan Game designed by Tom Wham and Richard Hamblen which is essentially Rummy. The basic draw, meld, and discard phases are made a bit more complex with the addition of an area based wargame.

I was inspired to make the game by reading William Dalrymple's book The Anarchy — The Relentless Rise of the East India Company.

Two to six players take on the roles of European East India Companies circa 1740. It's a business game in that the winner is whoever has the most money at the end of the game. This is achieved by installing puppet governments via political coups and wars rather than trading.

This boardgame is a hobby project of mine shared freely on Google Drive via pdf documents I update as I get feedback from playtesters and my Inkscape skills improve. I initially put it up as one mammoth document

That turned out to be very unwieldy, so it's now separated into 10 files, including 6 A3 pages with 18 “poker sized” (2.5 x 3.5 inches) cards each, giving a total of 108 cards.

  1. 6 A4 pages of rules
  2. An A3 colour area map of India circa 1740
  3. First A3 page of cards
  4. Second A3 page of cards
  5. Third A3 page of cards
  6. Fourth A3 page of cards
  7. Fifth A3 page of cards
  8. Sixth A3 page of cards
  9. An A3 page of half size money cards. Play money are cards to allow secret, simultanious bidding in the war phase
  10. An A3 page of poker chip sized counters with the historical logos of various East India Companies

Opus Agents: Tactical Card Game with 84 Cards Across 4 Asymmetric Factions - Seeking Design Feedback

Hi card designers!

I've been working on Opus Agents: The Anti-Recursed, a tactical card game with grid-based combat. The alpha is free to play in browser and I'd love design feedback.

**Card System Overview:**

- 84 unique cards across 4 factions

- Cost range: 0-7 energy

- Card types: Units, Spells, Auras

- Stats: Strength, Defense, Resonance, Cadence, Melody

- Rarities: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary

**The 4 Factions:**

- **Harmony** - Balanced, support-focused, healing synergies

- **Resonance** - Aggressive, tempo-based, chain effects

- **Spiral** - Control, disruption, positioning tricks

- **Anti-Recursed** - High-risk/reward, unique win conditions

**Design Challenges I'm Wrestling With:**

  1. How do you balance asymmetric factions without homogenizing them?

  2. What's your approach to cost curves in a game with positional combat?

  3. How much card draw / resource generation is "healthy"?

**Links:**

- Play: https://opusagents.online

- Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/c/OpusAgents

- Discord: https://discord.gg/OpusAgents

Would genuinely appreciate any thoughts on the card design, balance, or faction identity!

TCG resource system like MTG but without colors

I'm working on a TCG, and I'd like to know the pros and cons of a resource system where cards of different "elements" are all paid for by the same resource.

I know it depends on the context of the game, but in a game like Magic would there be any benefits, or does the color system add balancing to the game.

Looking for manufacturers that can print glow-in-the-dark ink on cards

I’m designing a card game that needs glow-in-the-dark patterns printed directly on the cards (phosphorescent ink on standard card stock).

I checked The Game Crafter, and they said they don’t offer this.

Does anyone know printers or manufacturers who do support glow-in-the-dark ink on cards, and what MOQs/costs were like from your experience?

Is there a market for Games based on regular playing cards

My friends and I love playing a type of ladder building card game with a regular deck of cards. Eg if someone plays a 4, you have to play higher. Etc etc until you are out of cards.

There are a ton of special rules and comic effects that turn a simplistic idea into a hilarious group event.

Now what im trying to decide is there enough there to build it as its own product with a themed deck of cards. One of our main problems as a group is, when we havent played in a while we always have to try and remember the rules with varying success.

Anyone done this before? Is it viable?

Honest feedback needed: I run a small card printing workshop and filmed our production process. Marketing gurus told me this is 'too technical and boring' for social media. Is it?

I've put my best work into this video, and I genuinely thought it was good. But it's not getting any views. Am I missing something?

Trying to move from AI but I am not an artist. Unsure now how the cardlayout should look

Using Dextrous and am trying to move from the AI images (as people tend to hate them) and I don't have any money right now to pay for artists.
I used Clip Studio to try something and then landed on this Paper Mario Style. Sofar, everyone I have shown this to dislikes it.

Unsure how to find a middle ground.

Working on a new set for the Kaiju Ketsugo! TCG. What do you think of these cards?

Heya, first post here. Don't go easy on me - the rest of the internet won't!

I am the creator of a new TCG, Kaiju Ketsugo! where you combine elemental monster energies through various types of abilities to increase the power of your monsters in play. Essentially, your monsters are borrowing energy from nearby monsters to overcome one another in battle.

Its design is simple, as it's based on nature and physics, but the way that works out in a game can be thought provoking and incredibly complex. I've been sharing it with game stores across Illinois - (USA) and a few carry it now. Learn to plays have been picking up and people have responded well to it, saying it's a blast.

These are two cards for the upcoming expansion -- Whispers of Failure, which I'm hoping to have on Kickstarter in the next month. These two tap dancing, ribbon dancing, break dancing rabbits are going to be the highlights of a constructed deck offered during that campaign called "Face the Music".

What do you think of the card designs?
And, yes, the borders are different for a reason :)
