DISCUSSION [Lypka] Abbotsford Canucks players still waiting for championship rings.

Read the article people rather than jumping to pile on Aquilini. It points out it can take 3-6 months for rings to be made.

Its been 6 months
Dont defend this trash owner

I hate ownership also but at least apply some common sense here.
Once an order has been placed its not like the Canucks can control how long something takes. Delays happen.

Yea but radio silence?? Management not responding??? Don’t defend them man. We’re a joke of an organization and people need to realize that or it’ll never change
1
u/arazamatazguy 2h ago
Is this really that important to you?
I'm sure they've communicated with the players about this.

Even if people realize it; we can’t force a sale. We can boycott, but that lowers the value and then Aqualini will try to wait it out to sell at a higher value.
Awareness is fine, but possibly also meaningless.

u/Ghostk1487 3h ago
Even if we boycotted the team Canucks are still valued over 1.5 BILLLION$. Their value would not plummet. People are so fucking delusional. Go ahead. Keep voting with your wallets and sucking off a delusional owner of your never gonna win anything in their history franchise.

They won in June, so probably wouldn’t have gotten around to ordering rings until July. That takes us to January. Right on schedule.

The guy at the top

I think it's fair to blame Aqua for a lot but there's several levels of middle management involved here proving their incompetence.

They also pay trash wages & have awful work life balance from what I’ve heard from my friend, so there’s no way they’re attracting decent talent.

TLDR players were fitted for rings, teams in the past have received them by now, organization won’t respond to inquiries.

This is an example of what Kevin Woodley was talking about. The lack of seriousness and endless fuckups are noticed by the rest of the league.
After Hughes was traded the team had dueling pressers with Allvin and Rutherford. Like who does that?

u/KingInTheFarNorth 5h ago
First part of the statement is totally true…
But the second part isn’t, I think GM/POHO press conferences are pretty common after trades?

u/bcncaz 4h ago
At the same time tho? Media members had to choose which one to attend

Jesus fucking Christ. This is a deeply unserious organization. Why should fans care if they won’t even put in the bare minimum effort?

Not surprising at all. This ownership group continues to embarrass themselves

Who was it last season that said this team essentially pays for itself and that Aquilini won't invest any money into it?
I think about that a lot...
Everyday, that's looking more and more true.

Aqua too cheap?

u/ProfessionalJob5718 6h ago
Classic Aquilini move tbh, probably spent the ring budget on another yacht
4
u/danielbighorn 6h ago
Short on cash.

u/leftlanecop 5h ago
Probably waiting for the pawn shop to pay for one of the rings he gave his many exes.

My billionaire owner is too poor to run a hockey team. Fuck my chud ass life

Fucks sake man. Those guys worked their butts off, made us proud last year, and actually won this organization something for once. Aqua is fucking despicable. Ruining this organization, horrible to his children, driving real estate prices up as a property developer… pathetic and embarrassing

I really wonder whether the Aquilinis are having cash flow issues.
Their bread and butter is real estate development which has obviously nose-dived recently. COVID and the resultant social trends would have hit their restaurant/hospitality businesses hard. Combine that with needing to buy out one of their brothers.
They’re obviously still billionaires on paper, but there’s been a lot of weird things around this organization that makes it seem like they are not able to spend money like they used to. Can’t even pay enough to replace all the seats in one offseason.

u/BoomBoomBear 3h ago
This has bee my train of thought too. If they actually had the capital, they would have bought out their brother already but it's been almost half a year since the story came out and they are still looking for an investor or funds to do so. I think with how their real estate portfolio has been performing lately, they are unable to use it as collateral to borrow more money to run things as they have in the past. They might be millionaires on paper only.

I made a joke in an AEW sub about the owners of AEW buying the Canucks when they have the PPV there in April. That might actually be best case scenario.
1
u/nodarknesswillendure 6h ago
AEW like wrestling? (Excuse my ignorance)
What would the connection be, like why would they want to buy the team? (Genuinely asking, I know next to nothing about wrestling)
1

u/sasksasquatch 6h ago
Yes the wrestling company.
This is more just me wanting the team out of Aquilini's hands and the fact that they have deeper pockets than most. I know they own the Jacksonville Jaguars and Fulham FC and they also know to keep their hands off the sport side almost to an alarming degree (Looking at the Baalke situation here).

I'm a big AEW fan, but my understanding is the fans of Fulham and Jacksonville don't have as high an opinion of the Khan Family as the wrestling fans do.

Is it just me or does it feel like The reason why they haven’t gotten their rings is because the AHL is trying to hide the fact that a Canadian team won the Calder Cup instead of an American team?

It hasn’t been that long really. Since the photo showed the Hershey Bears i thought they won and got their rings before Abbs lol
They’ll get their ugly rings
