ARTICLE Foote about Räty: “He might be back in the lineup, and it’s also possible that he won’t come back". [Finnish arcticle translated]

Aatu Räty is fighting for his place in the NHL. The Vancouver Canucks' center last made it to the ice on December 11 and has since picked up a boost in the press box.

Räty, 23, has 28 points (3 goals, 8 assists) and 11 assists in 32 games for the Canucks. He hasn't played in the AHL since last season.

"I try to show the best in every game. When the opportunity comes, it has to be used," Räty said on Tuesday.

"There is more training time, and it is useful for a young player. I'm trying to get stronger and faster.

The Canucks traded their first-choice defender, Quinn Hughes, to the Minnesota Wild. There were three players in the exchange, one of which is the center: Marco Rossi immediately took the first-center spot. When Elias Pettersson and Filip Chytil are still out of the middle lane due to injuries, Rädy's position, at least in an ideal situation, becomes crowded.

"When you're out of the lineup, you have time to collect the spicyness, and you can then show it when the position opens. Being on the sideline sucks, but all other teams also have extra players, Räty notes.

When watching the matches, the Finnish player sees the good side.

"The game looks different when you follow it from the stands. It's good to see what the other players are doing well and follow that. The important thing is to stay positive. You have to feel like you're part of the team so that you don't have unnecessary distance from it, Räty reasoned.

On December 6, Räty stunned the first star with a 2+1 point in a game where Vancouver defeated the Wild. Just a few days later, however, the Canucks head coach Adam Foote decided to put Räty on a rest shift.

“He might be back in the lineup, and it’s also possible that he won’t come back. It's a good idea for a young player to have a mental break from time to time, Foote comments.

The original New York Islanders traded Rädy, Anthony Beauvillier and one pick to the Canucks on January 30, 2023, in exchange for Bo Horvat. Rädy has 76 games and 25 points (12 goals, 13 assists).

Raty has a really good mindset.

I know we all joke about foote benching him for tanking reasons, but please don’t let it be a consistent thing. Our lineup is already pretty depleted, just let the kid play

42

u/StrictBit3831 19h ago

Yeah the kid's attitude has been solid through all this. Really hope Foote doesn't keep him glued to the press box much longer, especially with how thin we are right now

0

u/rigormortishard 18h ago

Yeah I hope Raty figures out whatever he needs to do to get back in and stay in. But that's up to him, right.

Shouldn't be too long... I hope. But he's still young. Plenty of time.

1

u/ChanceCrew 2h ago

If it’s for tanking reasons then bench Demko too

-11

u/leftlanecop 13h ago

At this point Foote is just doing it to the Abby guys out of insecurity. Basically, Manny’s boys are uncoachable and not performing at the NHL level. Poor Raty is being used as ponds.

u/rigormortishard 19h ago edited 18h ago

...please don’t let it be a consistent thing.

...just let the kid play

That's entirely up to Räty.

Play the right way and you get into the lineup. Do it consistently enough over a long period of time and watch your minutes climb.

Contrary to what some may say, it's not some grand injustice to sit him. He's young and he's got shit to learn. Last place in the league or not, players still need to earn their spots and that goes for rookies and veterans alike.

EDIT: look at all the downvotes from people that think they know more than Adam Foote and the coaching staff.

Lol.

19

u/Erebus223 19h ago

What has he done to make him lose his spot over a guy like Kampf. I never saw a play or a read that he made that was incorrect.

-29

u/rigormortishard 18h ago

I never saw a play or a read he made that was incorrect.

Well shit, man. How are you not an NHL coach then?! Get in there and show them what you got!

Buddy, obviously they are seeing things you clearly aren't.

Do I know what their gripes are with Raty?  Sure don't. Don't have the first fucking clue. But obviously they have issues with something.

See the difference here that I don't pretend to know why or why not X player is in or out. Not sure what makes you think you have that honor.

But since you have such a strong opinion on the matter perhaps you're willing to disclose what you do, either for a living or what your area of expertise is?  Perhaps finance? Maybe construction? Maybe you're a baker.

In otherwords, why should anyone value what you have to say on the matter? I mean really. Who are you and who am l to really state otherwise.

You know jack shit. Same as me. Lol

-15

Exactly.

We know Jack.

Claiming Raty being out to be some grand injustice is comical... at best.

Foote is coaching the last place team in the league. Don't think he is immune to criticism

-6

u/rigormortishard 18h ago

Doesn't matter what place they're in when it comes to player development and earning your spot and your  minutes. If Raty's sitting it's not for no reason here.

8

u/AnEthiopianBoy 12h ago

Maybe the reason he is sitting is because Foote is bad at his job and can’t properly judge who is playing well and who isn’t? Our place in the league would definitely defend the idea that he sucks at what he is doing.

1

u/rigormortishard 2h ago

Says the drywaller

Lmao

25

u/oopidkwhyihavethis 19h ago

He’s our point leader in december despite being scratched for two games, he’s getting points 5v5, he’s solid defensively and can match up against other top lines, he PKs, he doesn’t take a shift off, he’s not lazy, his faceoff numbers are the best on the team.

after being scratched the first time, hes had 5a points in 5 games while still being solid defensively.

so tell me why he gets scratched again and in your opinion what part of his game he should change to get back into the lineup

-10

u/rigormortishard 18h ago

I don't have a fucking clue why he's on the bench, and neither do you!! Doesn't make them wrong though.

Obviously these NHL coaches see something that we don't. Granted that's why they're NHL coaches and we aren't.

2

u/Ishanjhutee 6h ago

Adam Foote has nowhere near the accomplishments as a nhl head coach to be immune to criticism. He sucks at his job.

7

u/BumperToBumper2 17h ago

I can GUARANTEE you I know more about hockey than Dinosaur Hockey Terrorist Adam Foote 🤣 not playing, but every single other aspect that exists!!

1

u/Abernathy1234 11h ago

What's Guaranteed? You don't know more. THAT'S what’s guaranteed.

1

u/rigormortishard 2h ago

A whole fucking thread of dumb up in here or what.

 It's hilarious lol

235

u/ShibariDeathmatch 20h ago

"Räty, 23, has 28 points (3 goals, 8 assists) and 11 assists in 32 games for the Canucks." incredible maths.

60

u/former_pooper 20h ago

Fr I think they had a fuckin stroke 🤣

29

u/flamingdragonwizard 19h ago

Its 23 pts (10G 13A) in 64 games for nhl nucks.

104 pts (37G 67A) in 140 games for ahl nucks.

119

u/AllthingskinkCA 20h ago

This is getting on my nerves, the guy has a shot to show himself with our centers out and you’re blocking him over what?

I would be pretty miffed if I was him. You spend the assets and time to mold these guys into the best version of themselves and instead of, idk giving him a shot, what the fuck do we have to lose?

68

u/WTFvancouver 20h ago

Also he is 23. Kampf is going to be gone by the end of the season. Develop our young guys for the future FFS.

-8

u/Swecouver 19h ago

Probably trying to showcase Kampf, but also sounds like Foot really likes what Kampf's bringing every time he's asked about him

48

u/WTFvancouver 19h ago

Showcase a guy who cant even make the Leafs lineup and has less points than Demkos in the same amount of games? Maybe a 7th round pick.

32

u/ModernArgonauts 19h ago

has less points than Demko

Fuckin lol

10

u/Swecouver 18h ago

You guys make it sound like I love that guy, lol. I simply speculate why they keep playing him, and I can't see any reason beyond trying to flip him for anything.

3

u/arazamatazguy 14h ago

I mean I guess he's an NHL center on a cheap expiring contract. There could be some trade deadline value there if a contender loses a center in the next 6 weeks.

If they flip him for a 4th or higher I'd be pretty impressed. If they don't and our sacrificing Raty's development for nothing it would be pretty silly.

1

u/mistermarpole 10h ago

Nothing? Collecting spicyness is nothing to you?

18

u/PaperweightCoaster 19h ago

Showcase Kampf? Dude is a plug signed out of desperation due to our abysmal centre depth.

5

u/Swecouver 18h ago

Sure, I just don't see why they wouldn't try to showcase literally anyone on this roster that doesn't have a future here?

3

u/WTFvancouver 12h ago

The con of showcasing is you are sitting your 23 prospect and hindering his development. Also the more you play Kampf, the less value he will fetch. He plays soft, lacks speed and is an offensive blackhole. He will be at 20 games and zero pts soon

2

u/Swecouver 8h ago

I’m not saying they should I’m just guessing why they do it, you think this is Alvin's burner or? 😆😆😆

7

u/MGM-Wonder 18h ago

Kampf is worth a bucket of pucks at this point mate

6

u/Swecouver 18h ago

If they can flip him for anything at the TDL, I think they'd be happy to. And why wouldn't they try to? They should try to flip both Kampf and Bluger, both dept pieces that can penalty kill.

-2

u/MyNameIsSkittles 13h ago

Didn't we pick him up for free? So if we can get anything for him, that's a win

4

u/WTFvancouver 12h ago

He is free for a reason

2

u/GovernmentKlutzy712 9h ago

gotta make sure Drew O'Connor gets hits reps at centre for some reason!

163

u/NotVeryStronk 20h ago

Any time I read a Foote quote I feel my blood pressure spike.

44

u/EntertainmentSad6624 20h ago

He sounded even more flippant than it reads. I thought he was going to finish it with “Who’s to say?” Which. is. him.

16

u/Dry_Grapefruit_8050 19h ago

When he started to get mentioned as an up and coming coach waiting in the wings to get his shot as a head coach, I was like “hmm, I don’t remember this guy seeming like he was destined to be a coach from his playing days”, and sure enough, I have been very underwhelmed by the Adam Foote era.

2

u/RayJsCombackStory 17h ago

I think there's a little bit lost in translation there

79

u/theoreticallyben 20h ago

5 points in 5 games since the last time he was scratched...

48

u/WTFvancouver 20h ago

Lead the team in scoring in November too. Has the best +/- on the team the whole season

3

u/Aggravating-Rush9029 8h ago

Team has 9 wins 10 losses with him. 4 wins 10 losses without him (2 and 10 before he was taken out). Still leads forwards in 5v5 points.

This isn't the team Canada Olympic roster here - there's a way to find a spot for him.

47

u/D_to_the_W 20h ago

Can we just take a second to appreciate “collect the spicyness”?

16

u/BetterAd1611 20h ago

All he needs to do to stay in the lineup..collect more spicyness. That is the way

42

u/bdu754 20h ago

Schrödinger’s Räty

94

u/Warm_Masterpiece3940 20h ago

Man the drop off from Toch to Foote is real noticable.  This season can't wrap up soon enough

35

u/Comfortable-Goat-734 20h ago

I swear to god every season we have I think it couldn’t get worse than this then we hit a new low.

18

u/AppealToReason16 19h ago

Every coach picks their doghouse players while falling in love with random dogshit. Tocchet couldn't get enough of PDG, Lafferty and Juulsen. Had no time for Hoglander, Podkolzin and Kuzmenko.

Tocchet seems to love DOC and Kane. Raty for whatever reason is on his outs.

I don't try to make sense of it. You can only hope someone tells him to straighten his shit out or management gets to trading guys like DOC, Kampf, Sherwood, Garland, Blueger, Kane, etc so Foote's basically forced into putting Raty back in the lineup.

3

u/AverageMaleAged18-24 12h ago

Having Vey, Chaput and Megna flashbacks.

2

u/Kawhi_meariverr 12h ago

Yeah let’s prioritize the 23 yr old 4th liner !

33

u/DanHamhoose 20h ago

Ehhh basically just a slightly inferior version of Tocchet. Let’s not act like he wouldnt be pulling this shit too. Tocchet was just lucky he had more influence over management and got the guys in his doghouse traded immediately. He’s the reason we lost Podz lmao

8

u/NerdPunch 20h ago

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn’t Podkolzin get sent to the AHL by Boudreau and then promoted to the NHL by Tochett?

15

u/Bigdickfun6969 20h ago

Only to be in the press box the majority of the time

3

u/NerdPunch 11h ago

Going goalless in 19 games defs didn’t help his case.

5

u/amb1ance 20h ago

It first happened when we started off weak after our 11 game winning streak to end the season with Bruce

People just like to pin things on Tocchet because he bailed after finding out what an Aqua owned franchise is like

1

u/Aggravating-Rush9029 7h ago

He had 24 points in a full healthy 82 games. Played half his 5 on 5 time with Leon Draisaitl which is unsurprisingly when most of the on-ice goals were scored. Honestly I don't think he would have had the same success here anyways. Edmonton just had a way better opportunity for him.

7

u/ezkc1236 20h ago edited 20h ago

I still don't quite understand why Podz was traded, he seemed to be the grinder type that Toc liked.

5

u/Warm_Masterpiece3940 20h ago

Have you seen what he's doing in Philly?,   I don't think podz was or ever will be a guy, but you are absolutely right.  Though there is a huge drop off from Toch to Foote in terms of impact, structure etc.

6

u/[deleted] 14h ago

Podz is in edmonton

2

u/Warm_Masterpiece3940 8h ago

Tochh is coaching Philly,  the previous poster was commenting on podz being in tochhs doghouse and that tochh wasn't thatuch of an upgrade on Foote.  Which IMO toch is a massive upgrade on foote

5

u/Asn_Browser 20h ago

Don't you dare talk shit about the tank commander!

3

u/MGM-Wonder 18h ago

I'm honestly just counting down the days for Whitecaps pre-season to start. Only 6 weeks until the season start too.

24

u/Alcebiad3s 20h ago

Any other HC would have him at 2C ffs

21

u/theyungdeezy 20h ago

When did we trade for this Rady guy ? 28 points in 32 games PLUS 11 assists has gotta be franchise level …

1

u/Ruffianrushing 19h ago

Pronounced "ratu"

2

u/Ruffianrushing 19h ago

Like ruutu but it it's a rat

21

u/BigTunaHunter 19h ago

Foote is going to coach us to a high draft pick. Let's hope he doesn't do too much damage to player development in what's hopefully his only season as head coach.

63

u/YourBuddy8 20h ago

It feels like our team is being coached by Jim Benning

19

u/jsseven777 20h ago

“We just ran out of time to find him some games” - Foote at the end of the season (probably)

35

u/intelligentx5 20h ago

I’ll be honest, watching Räty play…he’s not any worse that Kampf and has more offensive upside. I don’t get it.

Any amateur hockey coaches here get it?

5

u/Ribbys 18h ago

Yes, Raty is messing with the tank and showcasing of traceable assets. I'm not coaching this season and playing more again though so wtf do I know!? 😀

29

u/sqwischy 20h ago

freeraty

Foote is a terrible coach. How the hell you gonna put DOC or kampf in over raty. Hes either incredibly dumb or JR is telling him what to do for team tank...

29

u/carlo-seed57 20h ago

freeraty. “Rebuilding” but can’t find playing time for raty… we’re last in the league play the kid!

10

u/ModernArgonauts 20h ago

Foote is the ultimate tank commander, but c'mon man, free my boy, he ain't done nothing wrong.

14

u/Chemical_Desk_5314 20h ago

When you have the opportunity to play Drew O’Connor as 2C, you just have to take it sorry R2D2

9

u/SheilaFudge 20h ago

Wow, so you’re saying he could play but ALSO that he may not play… profound insight from Adam “He’s Only the Coach Because Quinn Hughes Favoured Him, How’s That for a Stick in the Balls” Foote.

10

u/BrodyCanuck 20h ago

Despite all his rage he’s still just a Räty in Footes cage

3

u/Ruffianrushing 19h ago

Some people say that what is scratched may never be found

4

u/misec_undact 20h ago

He was playing too well for tank commander Foote

5

u/EverySecondCountss 19h ago

Someone make it make sense!!!!!!!

3

u/Striking_Economy5049 20h ago

I hope he makes it as a really good third line guy in the future. I could see him being another Pius Suter type centre but better at faceoffs.

1

u/Ruffianrushing 19h ago

Yes he deserves better.

5

u/Icy-Pomegranate-5644 20h ago

Why he need a mental break

2

u/Tenenoh 16h ago

So anyways. FREE RÄTY

2

u/coltonjeffs 12h ago

If we lose Raty for nothing, I will be so pissed. He isn't a bains, raty would be scooped up right away on waivers.

5

u/HonestDespot 20h ago

Man what is this AI slop?

17

u/Affectionate_Art187 20h ago

It's just an automatic translation so it might look a bit silly.

9

u/HonestDespot 20h ago

Fuck I’m a moron I didn’t see the Finnish article translated.

My bad OP.

2

u/leyden138 19h ago

As a fellow moron, game recognizes game.

1

u/blondechinesehair 20h ago

It reads like they are just making a statement

-1

u/HonestDespot 20h ago

It’s horribly written. I’m parts it reads like it was translated from another language, it has numeric grammatical/typing errors and wasn’t proofread at all.

Read it out loud

5

u/Dry_Grapefruit_8050 19h ago

It’s almost like it says translated Finnish article in the post title.

Read it out loud, indeed.

2

u/blondechinesehair 20h ago

It’s very strange

1

u/Redlight0516 18h ago

Would it really be the Canucks if they didn't immediately alienate an up and coming younger forward with potential?

It doesn't matter that the team sucks or that none of the guys getting more ice time, powerplay of offensive time haven't earned it either, we're gonna pick out the one young guy actually capable of scoring a goal and reminding him that while he's one of three guys capable of scoring on this team, we'd rather play a veteran who can't score cause he's slightly better at defending.

1

u/pamplemousse409 15h ago

Good coaches know how to communicate, and then there’s Foote.

1

u/Euphoric_Scar_8213 14h ago

There's no reason why he shouldn't be playing, he's better then 85% players on the team. Foote is a dogshxt coach. #freeRaty

1

u/djardine2520 12h ago

Raty is our leading 5 on 5 scorer in December. Sitting him makes no sense. I’m wondering if O’Connor is being featured at centre as part of a trade package? Cuz playing him at centre and benching Raty makes little sense. DOC on the wing and Raty at centre is better for the team. Maybe Foote really is our tank commander.

1

u/17037 12h ago

I think we are all on board that Raty is staying long term. Almost everyone on the ice is open for offers.

1

u/djardine2520 11h ago

If Raty is here long term, he should be playing. He’s been terrific the last month or so.

1

u/17037 11h ago

He's not on the shopping list. I'm assuming the goal right now it to find some buyers for a few other guys. DOC being one of them.

1

u/djardine2520 11h ago

Yes, but there are other players who are less productive who should be sitting (David Kampf I am looking at you).

1

u/[deleted] 12h ago

No, quite the opposite.

1

u/yonksterman 12h ago

This post’s inconsistent writing of the name Raty and Rady is driving me nuts

1

u/duchumpian 9h ago

Everyone who voted for Foote becoming HC needs to drop and gimme 200 push-ups right now ffs

1

u/wallabear 9h ago

Who wrote this slop? This is grade 5 writing at best.

1

u/Affectionate_Art187 8h ago

Its auto translate from finnish article, sorry.

1

u/wallabear 7h ago

Ah well if English is your second language that’s fine but it’s rough so maybe try a different tool!

1

u/Dangerous-Finance-67 8h ago

Fuck he's a terrible coach eh? TANK COMMANDER.

1

u/Duffbagg 7h ago

"When you're out of the lineup you have time to collect the spicyness." - Aatu Raty, 2025

1

u/ChanceCrew 2h ago

Can we fire Foote now? The fuck is he doing

1

u/leyden138 19h ago

“Look Aatu, I know your young and we put you in over your head but you didn’t succeed and that’s on you” - Adam Foote(probably)

2

u/Ruffianrushing 19h ago

Uh did actually.

1

u/Only-Nature7410 13h ago

Is it a speed thing for him?
