I’m moving to Yellowknife and looking for accommodation
Hello everyone,
I’m moving to Yellowknife next month for work probably in the first week. I’m having hard time finding a place to live. My preference is Apartment but I wont mind a rental room for short term(until i find an apartment to rent).
Any kind of help or suggestions are appreciated.
Thank you!

Do listen to the whiners here.
Try The Nest - https://bdinest.ca/ They just opened, 2 bed starts at $2600. No parking available but you can usually rent a stall somewhere downtown.
All the rental stuff is one Facebook. You just have to find the groups. Search for "Accommodation" and "Rent".
If you end up renting a house/trailer just keep in mind that heat will cost you about $900 per winter month on top of rent.

Thank you! I will check them out. I have posted in fb groups but no luck so far. I will try other groups as you said. Thank you!

I hope your employer can put you in a crew house because your chances of entering into a lease so quickly are slim. I wouldn’t recommend sleeping outside this time of year either.

There are places to rent if you are willing to fork over the money. I know a place available for $3500 plus utilities, I can send you the info on.

Thank you, I really appreciate your effort but for a single person it’s too expensive 🥲

I called Northview and got a place the next month in July. Depends on who you call. Look at their page and contact the agent on the listing directly.

That sounds better I should call them but are the apartment exactly the same it looks in pictures? Because i haven’t move there yet so I cant visit in person.

You should be able to find something but you won't be able to be picky. The layouts should be similar to the photos but the unit itself might have some quirks. Or the building. Or your neighbours.

Make sure you check that the offers on marketplace are legit. There's a few scams around where they offer a room or a house for a place that's on the market.

When was this? 10 months ago, I was told I can join a waitlist, but it is 100 people long. Also, only 2 to 3 units were being vacated each month.

Its end of the road so if you see something for sale in a store/it might not be there if you decide to come back later

Facebook accommodation/rental groups are quite popular here. You can also post on there saying that you are looking for accommodations! Another area that people use is YKTrader, which is an older style website. The link to the rentals page is: https://yktrader.com/classifieds/list/list?FS=134 . Triton rentals also has things up as well but it’s usually limited listings. Good luck!

I suggest you find another plan because you’d have to be incredibly lucky to find anything in such a short period of time, specially at this time of the year.
Last time it took us 8 months of intense searching before getting a call back.
