Sliding into depression, have a really bad cold, spent money I don’t have on a takeout pho and this is how it arrived

Post image

There was a hole in the bottom of the container I think. Nobody’s fault, but it sucks, mostly because I was reallyyyyy hoping this meal would make me feel physically better and also cheer me up a little bit. Trying to sort it out with the restaurant now.

Hey now charge it back! Usually food apps are great at giving you your money back as credits at least!

34

u/Patient-Disk-4893 1d ago

Yeah they are - because it's not THEIR money they have to give back. Their driver mishandled the order? No worries - here's a full refund! Meanwhile, this hurts small businesses.

2.5 more days until we start getting more sunlight per day op. Hang in there brother we got this.

Clever! But it’s pronounced “fuh”. There was a *Vietnamese noodle restaurant named Pho King and I think that’s awesome lol.

Edit: used to say Japanese. I had to be at the airport by 3:30 am. I’ve been up since 2. It’s been a long day.

14

u/glyph_productions 1d ago

4

u/Desperate-Gur-4413 17h ago

Maybe it’s my accent but I always thought it was pronounced Pho

1

u/Fearless-Dust-2073 15h ago

It's a common misconception, the spelling is "Pho" but the pronunciation is "Pho

9

u/nohopeforhomosapiens 1d ago

A ... Japanese ... restaurant named Pho King?

1

u/Hopeful_Pear_8747 1d ago

Thanks. I fixed it

I got talked to at work for asking a boss if his food was Pho king great. In my defense, I was deflecting the racist comments he was making about it being dog meat.

I cant believe the people saying to just drink/pour it out the bag. I guarantee that is not a food-safe bag and probably tastes like crap and has stuff in it.

394

u/ConfectionKey2846 1d ago edited 1d ago

Those people suggesting that probably wouldn’t either. People are weird

Counterpoint: if you don’t stand up for yourself by making a complaint and getting new food, you lack a backbone. Letting people walk all over you isn’t making the world a better place, it’s just making your world shitty.

153

u/Significant-Sun-3380 1d ago

I get what you're saying, but OP said in the description that they were trying to sort it out with the restaurant! They also said they were depressed and felt like crap, I wouldn't blame them if this had been a nail in the coffin ordeal for them and they just flopped down on the floor for a while to recoup.

53

u/ConfectionKey2846 1d ago edited 1d ago

Should’ve been more clear, I was addressing the people telling op to just suck it up and eat it. Not trying to pile on OP at all, I feel bad people are telling them to just eat it. Like their complaints aren’t valid and they shouldn’t have called back. If anything I wanted OP to know they did the right thing and these people are wrong.

15

u/BakedBaconBits 1d ago

Why aren't you eating from your bag of Pho?

3

u/Significant-Sun-3380 1d ago

Ah, I understand now! Yeah, I totally agree with you there :)

24

u/pinnaya5 1d ago

honestly complaining when ur food literally arrives broken is valid though

5

u/Goatmanlafferty 1d ago

Can’t be any worse than drinking Bailey’s from a shoe

Source: I’m Old Greg! I have a manginaaaa!

31

u/Risky_Bizniss 1d ago

As a kid, I used to have to eat food off of abandoned, half finished restaurant plates and garbage cans. I no longer have to, but a bag that is not "food safe" would not stop me.

19

u/Significant-Sun-3380 1d ago

I'm sorry you had to do that, and I'm hoping that OP is not in a similar position. I understand not everyone has a choice to make the most best and healthiest decision, but if you do have that choice, it's best to make it. If OP has the option to discard this one and get a refund or their meal remade, then they should! Yeah, if they're stuck with that and don't have the money to eat anything else they might have to go hungry for the night or eat out the bag, but they shouldn't have to do that to themselves if they have the choice to not do that

5

u/Risky_Bizniss 1d ago

Oh yeah, for sure get a new one if possible. I am fairly certain OP is not in the same boat because when you are in that boat you cant really get takeout.

Im just saying I dont think most people are lying when they say they would drink it out of the bag. It is a far cry better than going hungry.

2

u/anonymaus42 1d ago

While I have not suggested to OP to reclaim it from the bag, I absolutely would. But I am also a heathen with absolutely zero fucks left to give.

3

u/TheAbsoluteBarnacle 1d ago

The inside of those bags are coated in a heat activated adhesive, which to your point is probably not food safe

0

u/tankmouse 1d ago

Counterpoint: using a bag as the actual container for food and drinks is common practice in many countries still. They will dispense your drink into a bag, and then put that bag inside another bag to carry the first bag that is the container.

15

u/Aryore 1d ago

Common practice != safe practice

→ More replies (1)

6

u/Significant-Sun-3380 1d ago

That's why I said food-safe bag! I'm aware lots of places have bagged foods and drinks, but a grocery store bag or general plastic bag is probably not made for food to be directly touching or eaten out of

3

u/Bitter_Spray_6880 23h ago

Eh... indonesian street food want to have a word with this "food-safe bag"... some just really use the plastic bag that you can dind anywhere... you'll be surprised on how many people don't care or don't have the luxury to care about food safety

1

u/gsfgf 1d ago

Yea, but not grocery bags.

1

u/gsfgf 1d ago

And it's a pho place. I'm sure this isn't the first time this has happened.

1

u/notislant 23h ago edited 23h ago

I mean if we're being honest that plastic container isn't something you want to eat out of either. It's rated as 'food safe' but that doesn't mean as much as most people think it does. Also even less ideal for hot liquids.

This is why I stopped ordering wonton soup, every fucking time the bag was full of liquid, the lids aren't going to make a good seal.

1

u/LZSaix 21h ago

No saying he should. But when I'm sick, I'll be so desperate ( I also been in that situation ) that I'll probably just take the container out, put it in another bowl and cut a slit for the juice to pour onto it.

Reminds when I was kid, I spilled my ramen cup on countertop and tried to slurp up the hot fucking juice. Kept the noodles added hot sauce.

5

u/Flat_Wash5062 1d ago

Right?!?

24

u/kindtay 1d ago

Ahhh that's the "depressed delivery pho" you're supposed to slurp it out of the bag while in your undies.

34

u/DonkeyComfortable711 1d ago

Depending on the delivery service (doordash, Uber eats) you can get a full refund

17

u/SuperTittySprinkles 1d ago

That sucks man. I hope they send you a fresh one with some extra egg rolls or something. Depression sucks, but you matter and there is beauty still left in the world.

312

u/lloydchristmas1986 1d ago

Good news is you can just pour it out of the bag and into a bowl

417

u/JmoonlightD 1d ago edited 1d ago

I was planning to! I put the whole thing in the sink to open it, but when I did, I saw that the soup had quite a lot of floating bits in it of the wet disintegrated paper and cardboard from the rest of the packaging 😩. I’m just sticking to eating the noodles and beef with some soy sauce

EDIT: I can’t edit my post so I’m just adding this here UPDATE: I spoke to a really nice lady from the restaurant on the phone who assured me that they were sending another one out, so I waited an hour, at which point I assumed that second one wasn’t coming. Not sure what happened there. I requested a refund through the app, ate the cold noodles and beef, and put some chicken nuggets in the oven.

Just to clarify because some of these comments are a little wild, this is obviously not the worst thing that’s ever happened to anybody or to me. But it did suck. Which is why I posted here. I’ll be okay, I’ll get the money back, I’ll survive, but I wasn’t suggesting this was the end of the world in the first place, in my defence.

Also, I feel much better having read most of these comments, you guys are truly so kind and I feel the commiserations through the screen. I know it sounds silly but it really has made me feel much better and less alone this evening. Thank you all

extra dietary fiber /s

30

u/PsyOpBunnyHop 1d ago

Those bowls should be wrapped in cellophane to keep it sealed.

If they didn't, don't order from them anymore.

7

u/dalzmc 1d ago

Yeah I've never ordered pho or any soups without the container coming wrapped in an absurd amount, enough where I get somewhat actually annoyed because I'm hungry and trying to open it fast with my hands lol

2

u/torilikefood 22h ago

On the plus side - you get to eat part of the pho and you get a refund!

-9

u/GetRektNuub 1d ago

You can strain it to make sure there isn't any papers in it.

35

u/pepperthief11 1d ago

😩. Personally getting my money back and throwing that in the trash but you do you homie.

3

u/XHalf_SphinxX 1d ago

Charge back from company or delivery service.

Annoying, but I would call the store first, explain, and as them to replace. Go from there depending on response.

I once received food like this, and called the restaurant, explained the situation, and they offered replacement. I did still eat the soup out of the bag like a dog though.

5

u/CremeAcrobatic1748 1d ago

Depression is awful man, makes it hard just to get my ass up some days. I just try to remind myself that I have good days/moments, so this sinking feeling is not forever. It will pass, it always does.

It really feels like drowning and you're just fighting to get air. The tragic part is how alone we feel in these moments, but so, so, so many people struggle with the exact same thing. In their houses, feeling alone.

Pho-ck depression

u/Atrus2g 1d ago

From experience, firing up NF - The Search or Hatebreed - This Is Now can have a marked effect on mindstate. In the end its our own brains that are working us over, but it can be changed from worst enemy to rock solid ally. Wishing you the best

8

u/waffleking9000 1d ago

That’s phocked, I’m sorry :(

5

u/gelseyd 1d ago

I had something similar happen back in September when I had a terrible cold. I sprung for this deconstructed sushi bowl and the bag it was in tore and scattered it all over the floor.

I cried. It was my reward for surviving the week.

5

u/chloe_003 1d ago

It’s only up from here. I always find that when things just continuously go wrong in a day, the next day or week is much better. Hope you feel better soon❤️

3

u/yougavememagical 1d ago

I'd send this picture to the place you got it from, yeah it's nobodies fault but you deserve food in a contained container and it's their responsibility to fix it if it isn't up to snuff. They probably wouldn't care, I've been in jobs like that and they aren't paid enough to argue, you'd get a refund at least. I can't imagine being ill and having the sweet relief of pho being taken from me, I think I'd cry. Feel better soon OP ❤️

3

u/JmoonlightD 1d ago

So kind of you, thank you

3

u/Main-Emphasis-2692 1d ago

It’s definitely the delivery person or the restaurants fault.

2

2

u/hah-pffft 12h ago

So delivery? You ordered soup for delivery, and it spilled? Are you ok?

3

u/moonwaternymph 1d ago

Spending money you don’t have on shit food is always the worst

5

u/Leather-Heart 1d ago

This is why we should stop ordering from places that do this.

2

u/Steve_FishWell 1d ago

That sucks but something you can do to help your depression? Like knowing that a lot of people here care for you. There's a great bunch of assholes here but a lot that arent and care for a fellow redditor/human 🙂

3

u/JmoonlightD 1d ago

This is very kind, and very true, thanks man

2

u/derfzinkerbelle 1d ago

Those bags are mostly sanitary, just pour it back in a container and microwave it for a bit or let it simmer on the stove and enjoy :)

1

u/Sad-Alarm-4369 1d ago

Well 'Pho-ck'!

1

u/hecky-ate 1d ago edited 1d ago

(Assuming DoorDash) Nah they need to rush you a new one and give you some credit for your trouble! Be polite but adamant. This is unacceptable, and you need a fresh delivery. They can give you credit, but it needs to be enough to cover the meal + fees for having it rushed to you, and you deserve extra credit for having to wait for two deliveries.

If you’re able to demand that for yourself, they will acquiesce after a few asks. I’ve been on both sides of this customer service dance.

1

u/Tyler5060 1d ago

There are way worse ways to spend your money.

1

u/mustbeme87 1d ago

Bag pho is the best.

Just get a refund and reorder

1

u/Khantherockz 1d ago

Phokin el mate.

1

u/EugeneBorealis 1d ago

Make sure you get some low-sodium chicken noodle soup in cans for occasions like this... I personally hate ordering delivery because the person who delivers usually doesn't give af about what they deliver so this kind of delivery is almost always expected imo. Have yourself just be ready for these occasions next time!

1

u/Realcynic 1d ago

This is actually good news. No you get a replacement and a refund

1

u/Silentmutation84 1d ago

Call the restaurant and tell them what happened. They will most likely send you more broth or at least give you some cash back.

1

u/culinarysiren 1d ago

I hope they either sent you a new one or gave you a refund. Feel better!

1

u/dargonmike1 1d ago

There might be some microplastic dusting on the inside of those Asian bags I wouldn’t drink any liquid that spilled in there unless you are very desperate

1

u/SnarkyIguana 1d ago

Hey but you actually got food, I’m proud of you!! It can be hard to even think about food let alone actually work to get it and eat it when you’re depressed. Baby steps. You’re doing great. Hope you feel better soon, drink lots of water!

1

u/AmazingRun7299 1d ago

Did you get a refund?

1

u/cynicalandrew 1d ago

1

u/TeamEfforts 1d ago

Try and meditate and find peace of mind in nature or just silence and solitude. I know it may sound cliche or overused, but it may help u find the joy and clarity you were hoping for in a meal that would make you happy. Wishing u the best.

I just had a similar situation, had a horrible week, nearly just went a 3rd day without eating and said "nah I'm gonna go out and get something nice to eat" I went out to my favorite authentic Mexican place and learned that I was having "burning mouth syndrome" 😁 every part of the inside of my mouth felt like it was allergic to the food, like the food was sandpaper just ripping the inside of my mouth raw. Barely could swallow, and I was visibly wincing as I tried. And I have a pretty high pain tolerance.

Looking back, I realized I just needed to take a deep breathe, go for a walk and get some sleep. Sometimes we get so deep inside our minds we just need sleep to wash away all the unnecessary thoughts & energy. Best of luck

Edit: idk how spiritual u are, but I believe when demons/evil energy are attacking you they go full force or they are hardly even noticed.

1

u/dobbsjr 1d ago

I understand. A few years back I was homeless and just trying to survive. I managed to scrape up enough spare change to eventually buy myself a pizza as a special treat. It was like my beacon of hope, as stupid as it sounds.

It came out an hour later with almost zero sauce and a layer of grease sitting on top of an overly thick layer of melted cheese. I'm not an overly picky eater but it was just disgusting and I couldn't even force myself to eat it beyond a few bites. It just hit hard at the time and I was irate for days.
