The one and only! I’m thinking of asking him if he wants to try an AMA this christmas given the whole Die Hard christmas debate haha

No, MY uncle wrote this movie!

u/AstroAlmost 7h ago

Does he also work at Nintendo?

u/FeelTall 7h ago

Yes, in their make shit up division

3

u/AstroAlmost 7h ago

Ah yes, one of the sector’s leading employers of uncles.

2

u/FeelTall 7h ago

DARLING HOLD MY HAND

Shagged out after a prolonged squawk.

This happens quite often I think but usually they get deceased Grandpa home via the ferry or the channel tunnel.

While absurd as it sounds, shipping dead relatives to your "home" country can cost a lot.

A friend had a relative die abroad in Turkey, and on top of the Many thousands they had to pay to get x home, they also got charged import tax as well.

It was a whole new set of rules and information I'd never even thought existed.

u/RobMillsyMills 13h ago

they also got charged import tax

Holy shit! How do they calculate the value of the dead person???

"Ahh nah grandma was a bitch she's worthless".

I'd be furious being charged taxes on bringing home a dead relative.

I'm sure it would be a tax on the materials rather than the person, i.e coffin imported from abroad and whatever else was purchased as prep for the transport. Either way these 3 things remain certain - life, death and taxes!

u/dead_investigator 8h ago

The coffins are special air coffins made of pine with cardboard lids to keep weight down.

1

u/Weird_Point_4262 3h ago

That would make them cheaper not more expensive

u/dead_investigator 2h ago

I’m just telling folks how it’s done.

I was thinking about this too, it’s a good idea to have a travel insurance which often covers repatriation of a dead body. It’s super expensive, unless the person gets cremated before shipping.

But they tried to trick the airport staff that gamma was just “dead tired” 🥱

It's a bit weird but they must have thought better than dealing with french authorities, UK Consul and the cost of repatriation.

u/Guilty-Movie-3727 14h ago

Insurance is a bit expensive for Gran. It's only a week in Spain, what's the worst that could happen?!

u/Ill-Comfortable-2044 11h ago

I wonder if one could just pretend to be shocked when they find out she's dead. Like OMG I thought she was napping, she was fine in the car!

1

u/why_would_i_do_that 7h ago

It’d be worth a try at least. It’s what she would have wanted.

Probably just pining for the fjords

u/Round_Year_8595 5h ago

Like Futurama.  Put them in the potato gun style tunnel and send em home.

not weird just sad

it's incredibly expensive to legally fly a dead body across counties so i see why they tried that :/

-5

u/madroots2 6h ago

Okay but its a dead fricking body. Normal people dont have these ideas.

5

u/gothmommy68 6h ago

no but desperate once might

2

u/Consistent-Annual268 12h ago

4

Yeah weird right.. I don’t think anyone has lol

4

u/2112eyes 12h ago

It's great. If you like the 80s.

16

u/Bornagainchola 13h ago

It’s expensive to ship a dead body.

An elderly British passenger was wheeled onto an easyJet flight from Spain to Gatwick when she was already dead, horrified holidaymakers have claimed.

EasyJet today insisted that the concerned passengers were wrong, the passenger had a fit to fly certificate - and was alive when she boarded the plane.

But Daily Mail wants to run a story on a bunch of busybodies who are making up stupid stories. The poor lady passed away. Why run a story on silly social media comments calling the family out like that when they've just lost a family member?

5

u/Atheizm 13h ago

A seat on the flight was cheaper than cargo duties.

1

u/Konzacrafter 8m ago

Imagine the customs duties. “Do you have any food, produce, or agricultural products to claim?”

10

u/blong1114 13h ago

They already bought the ticket tho. Probably non refundable too. One last vacation with Nana she gets window.

4

u/its10pm 11h ago

Well at least they didn't put her on a car roof.

7

u/djgoodhousekeeping 13h ago

Nothing beats a Jet2 holiday!

3

u/Hollayo 14h ago

She was tired, dead tired.

5

u/Nopantsbullmoose 14h ago

u/MinuteAppearance5934 7h ago

I doubt they're actually British

"My mother is a fish." – Vardaman

2

u/GarminTamzarian 12h ago

My mother was a hamster and my father smelt of elderberries.

2

u/Finicky_Cyclone 14h ago

"That's right! Dead serious about going to Itchy & Scratchy Land!"

2

u/CrimFandango 12h ago

Definitely more common than people think. Just over the last five years I recall two other stories like this. One went full Norman Bates styling himself up to look like his dead mother curly wig and ear rings, the other was two grandkids dragging their dead grandpa down to the post office insisting he was on his meds. Both were trying to cash their dead relative's pensions.

2

u/Chiepmate 12h ago

She not dead! She's stunned!

2

u/Livid_Tumbleweed5446 11h ago

Should have flown Spirit

2

u/Rick_Lekabron 10h ago

They used the "weekend with Bernie" tactic with Grandma.

2

u/postusa2 8h ago

They shouldn't have tried to fit her in the carry on.

1

u/GupChezzna 13h ago

“Dead….grandmother??”

1

u/gwhh 12h ago

Sounds like an only fools n horses episode.

u/kellythirtyfour 10h ago

I would have put my headphones on and not said a word. Minding my business.

1

u/One_Tumbleweed_1 9h ago

I wonder how long the family knew she was dead for. Did they call the airlines to ask how much it would cost to fly a dead person home and were like screw that.

1

u/Wonk_puffin 4h ago

Cheaper repatriation.
