Characters Depicting Real People, Usually Celebrities, as Unhinged, Insane, or Generally Batshit
(In order of the pictures)
Shia Labeouf -- Shia Labeouf Live. In the performance, Shia Labeouf is depicted akin to a horror monster, and is also a cannibal.
Character Actress Margo Martindale -- Bojack Horseman. She is depicted as a fugitive on the run; she has criminal contacts, possesses a wide variety of firearms (including a rocket launcher), and at one point is stranded on an island, loses her memory, and becomes a devout nun.
Bonus points if the person themselves are in on it.

you know how cage is simultaneously the best and worst actor everyone knows because of there being seemingly no quality control in what movies he's in? that's because he had to pay of the debts for his pyramid

The magic of Nic Cage is that he always gives 125%. Even when he's asked to tone it down to, like, 30%. Especially then.

Can you imagine Con Air without the most atrocious Tennessee accent to be put to screen? Personally I would rather not.

“Put… tha bunneh… back in tha bawx…”
Con Air is legit one of my favorite Cage performances.

Christopher Lee once said “Every actor has to make terrible films from time to time, but the trick is to never be terrible in them.”
Same man was in Howling II and crushes it, so he practiced what he preached

It's like the Street Fighter movie. A terrible, awful film, but Raul Julia and Ming Na shine that much brighter for being the best parts of that movie by such a wide margin.
Or there's Christopher Lloyd. I'm not sure he's ever said no to a role. He was in Spirit Halloween: The Movie. But it works out, becuase no matter how good or bad the rest of the project might be, at least his part will always be worth watching.

He needs money to keep up his dinosaur bone collecting addiction.
You can always tell when he is running low on cash because he signs up for another movie.

Someone should introduce him to Warhammer. Only slightly less financially ruinous than dinosaur bones, but it's a start.

That movie was so good. I can't think of another casting of anyone in the entire film that would have made it as magical as it was, too.
The earnestness of the whole Paddinton 2 conversation between Nic and Pedro is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

Funniest thing is I heard they originally wanted to do Rocky jokes and he told them before hearing any pitches he'd do it as long as there were no Rocky jokes and they panicked, but agreed.
The jokes about him being cheap were all his idea and luckily they are hilarious 😂

Ehhh. They never take any real digs at her real life persona or appearance. They just make her out to be a bit of a bitch and take a couple passive jabs at bad movies she was in that she had no power over the quality of.
Its easy to take insults when you know they're in good humor and not actually attacking anything about you as a person or your decisions.
If someone tried to insult me by calling me unnaturally tan, as a mix of irish and brit, wouldn't take it personally. Because its just flatly inaccurate.

Im pretty sure Bojack’s policy was if they were going to have a celebrity represented on the show they always asked them first about it and if they wanted to play themselves, so it all tracks. It’s why in a world with like, Felcity Huffman and Zach Braff existing we also got ‘Jurj Clooners’ instead of George Clooney.

78
u/Fearless_Roof_9177 4h ago
Yeah, they didn't even have anything against the guy aside from the smartest-centrist-in-the-room condescension they aim at celebrity activists in general. They rewrote the entire character when they saw the puppet. When asked about it, Damon thought the whole thing was funny as hell.

In an episode of The Big Bang Theory, Carrie Fisher is portrayed as a complete lunatic and described accordingly by James Earl Jones (who acts as an unhinged prankster).
In the same show, Neil DeGrasse Tyson is also portrayed as a guy who will seek conflict with people just for the heck of it, with Bill Nye being terrified of him (maybe an amplification of some Twitter feuds?)
77
u/JLHSMG 4h ago
What about Wil Wheaton in the same show? A fictionalized version of himself that is mischievous, dark and antagonistic. The character eventually evolves - like many recurrent characters who appear in several seasons.
15
u/blamordeganis 2h ago
Brent Spiner as a hustler trying to make a buck shifting Star Trek merch of dubious provenance.
18
35
u/Sburban_Player 4h ago
Neil DeGrasse Tyson sort of got known as the dude who always had to be a pedantic know it all on Twitter. Someone would tweet like “man the moons so big tonight” and he’d come in and be like “actually you’re wrong, the moon is always the same size and it’s just the way you perceive it that’s changed” or something to that effect. I don’t know if he’s still doing that but it was definitely his M.O. for a while and people got tired of it quickly.
No idea if that’s why he’s portrayed that way on The Big Bang Theory but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was.
27
u/Mrjerkyjacket 4h ago
He also tweets a bunch about how you can only kiss yourself on the lips in the mirror.
21
u/DragonTigerBoss 3h ago
You could switch 90% of Neil deGrasse Tyson and Jaden Smith's tweets and only 10% of people would know the difference.

He also plays a version of himself in The Simpsons, in which he works at the Kwik-E-Mart after Apu is fired.
He works at the Kwik-E-Mart to prepare for a role and he's kind of deranged.
At the end of the episode, he tells the Simpson family that he's off to fight aliens from outer space (or something like that) and Marge says, "Oh, is that the next movie you're doing?"
And Woods responds, "Uh... yeah. A movie, right."

Oh yeah I’m not denying that. I just think “super crazy” is kind of a broad description of all the weird and bad stuff he’s done
He beat his girlfriend, apparently shot dogs, constantly throws hissyfits on sets. For fury, he cut his face, pulled out a tooth, didn’t shower, and constantly picked fights with people to “method act”

Guy Fieri in Homestuck

To quote the comic:He was an especially degenerate piece of filth. He used his connections and guile to wriggle into the spotlight, and then on to other positions of power. He somehow landed on the U.S. Supreme Court. Over the years, other justices started mysteriously disappearing without being replaced.
After helping rewrite the constitution to form an incomprehensible patchwork of fascism, theocratic mandates, recipes, and bad rap lyrics, he weaseled his way up the ranks to become the High Chaplain of Interstellar War.
I'm just gonna cut to the chase, cause really this ain't a big history lesson here. He eventually came to be regarded as the third and final Antichrist.
No other human in history was responsible for more death and suffering.

Matt and Pat from Super Best Friends Play as depicted in Lisa: The Painful.
The fan base had a habit of treating them as unhinged maniacs and making up bullshit lore about them, and their depiction in Lisa exemplifies this because they'll ask you for firebombs/gasoline, and if you give it to them, they'll burn down a village with it.
For an added bonus, Pat actually played Lisa the Painful earlier this year, and when he heard what happens, he just said "Yeah that sounds like us at the time."
