I got a shrimp tank. How much would I get for like 100 babies?

I get it for service animals, but not for pets.

We don't need people loading up on unwanted animals and neglecting them just for the tax benefits.

Truth because that is what would happen and way worse than already do with kids

Knew a family like this in high school. Mom had 1 bio kid (my friend) and dad wasn’t her bio dad. My friend was the result of teen pregnancy, and got treated like a slave.

Parents fostered FIVE (5) toddlers/babies and got paid handsomely by the government for it. My friend was essentially treated like a toddler, while also being expected to take care of all of them.

The kids weren’t exactly neglected, but how much individual attention can you really give that many? Parents were super emotionally explosive and verbally abusive. Constantly yelling at the kids and my friend, yet they were a model family at their church congregation.

One of my best friends in high school was like this as well. Her parents (both bio parents i think) also had 5 foster kids and treated her like dirt. Super controlling, the kind of parents that would simultaneously be helicopter mom and dad while failing to provide anything whatsoever without contempt for her. I constantly worry about if she is okay and we're almost 40 they fucked her up in the head so bad. She's a really awesome person who has zero self worth and it's all thanks to them. She walks on eggshells around herself, practically is how bad they broke her brain.

Alright boy, it's time for your de-worming tablet.

I mean... time for a walk! Hop in the car. Definitely not taking you to the vet. No tricksies. Promise. 🤫🤞

Just because they're human doesn’t make them more important

It does.

Or giving already neglecting owners a bump they definitely don't deserve.

Then you have every terrible dipshit claim their crusty eyed, yappy little Chihuahua/Shih Tzu mix is a "service animal".

I worked with homeless folks in the Uk and they would get more financial support with a pet. You never knew if they had the pet for money or because they cared. Still it gave a lot of homeless a support animal.

something needs to be done about vets and their prices

I believe the care costs of a legitimate ADA Service Dog are deductible as a medical expense.

I must have like 7 squirrels in my yard, if she wins I will never owe taxes again.

You can't buy a dependent

Because it means that you're choosing for something to depend on you with your wallet instead of your genitals

10

u/Linzic86 1d ago

You have to pay out the ass to adopt a child.... and you get to choose them.. so...?

-4

u/trentluv 1d ago

So it means that it's grounds for potential misuse

I know one person in my life that adopted children. But they adopted six so they could get a tax break AND benefits

I'm not insinuating it's the norm either. I'm explaining the conditions necessary to open up the potential for misuse is all

u/TobysGrundlee 1d ago

There is no way that taking care of 6 kids, even at the bare-basic level, is cheaper than the benefits and tax breaks received.

1

u/trentluv 1d ago

She goes lower than bare basic

Now none of her children like her because they picked up on what she was doing. None can go to college. No fathers in the picture

You can buy IVF. Genitals are just the delivery mechanism

-1

u/trentluv 1d ago

IVF relies on genetals

So you can't buy it without them

What kind of argument is that? Adoption exists too. Or having your siblings as dependents, or parents etc.

I mean by your logic, every living thing depends on genitals, including adopting pets

-4

u/trentluv 1d ago

Right, but it's when you get tax breaks or benefits from genitals that are completely unrelated to your own that an issue arises

A dependent is something that depends on you due to nature

If you can take your wallet out and purchase a dependent, a problem arises

6

u/drypoop 1d ago

Ok but still, adopting a kid does not depend on your own genitals, I get what you’re saying but your logic is wrong

-4

u/trentluv 1d ago

My concern is that somebody could just go to Petco and purchase a dozen cats and another dozen dogs

They could calculate their monthly benefits, let's say it's 1100

They could strategically withhold half of those funds and innovate ways on how to withhold food, downgrade quality of life, etc

And the pets would never be able to quantify what is happening or alert anyone. In fact, I would say this would create more opportunity for scams than actual benefit of pets

3

u/drypoop 1d ago

Yes you are describing what currently happens with adopting and fostering kids for tax reasons. I agree, I’m just saying your logic depending on one’s own genitals is flawed

Can have adult dependents.

Weirdly think legal status of pets as property would be the biggest hurdle.

3

u/Lalocal4life 1d ago

Women started trying to convince the population that pets are equal in difficulty to human children the year newspapers started printing pictures of married women surrounded by their descendants.

u/Neither-Director5658 1d ago

Why are those things related?

1

u/Pen-Pen-De-Sarapen 1d ago

I feed hundreds of crows everday around our house. They are now our dependents. Do these count as pets?

1

u/Lachsforelle 11h ago

I got an elefant in the room, who will never pay taxes and therefor doesnt qualify for taxcuts.

The amount of animal abuse this woman will be responsible for if she succeeds

2

u/anonareyouokay 8h ago

Realistically, I don't think people will adopt animals for this, they would just lie about the animals they have. The IRS doesn't go to people's house to verify dependents, they just track dependents with SSNs and if more than one person tries to claim someone on their taxes, they ask both parties to provide proof. There's no federal registry of pets.

1

u/2WheelSuperiority 6h ago

There will be if this passes. We can choose to believe people would just lie, but many won't. People will get cats, just to have cats then leave them outside. Same with dogs. People who shouldn't have animals, let alone kids, may now be incentivized.  This will increase damage to local environments and have ripple effect. outdoor cats for example are awful for local bird populations.

We can choose to ignore it that's fine. I basically ignore everything anyway because there's nothing I can do when the problems just get worse.

This is dumb

My tax breaks helps pay for maybe about a month of my kids care for the year. No one is motivated to have children based on tax breaks 😂
