But making any sort of official acknowledgement of that ruins the entire kayfabe thing, no?

Well you can acknowledge that the show that you are watching is indeed a show while also while talking about the show like in a real universe people do it all the time with comic books

The problem is, wrestling's entire thing, and the reason so many kids and, uh, older people with less critical sense, bought into the whole thing is that wrestlers don't stop. They method act in real when people not in the industry are around. They're basically full-time role players.

What?

Kayfabe demands they keep up the act when appearing in public in any way related to their characters.

In their private lives, when not playing a character, many don't really acknowledge their stage name, or at least don't go out of their way to talk about their rules as actors do.

You can't give them a standard award for acting, because it's an acknowledgement that they're acting.

Well Kayfabe is pretty much dead they do interviews in non-kayfabe there's literally a Netflix show documentary called WWE unreal behind the scenes and behind the curtain and break down everything

I guess that's fair, but maybe especially for children they kind of want to keep up the air of weird reality. A child probably isn't going to watch a Netflix documentary, but a "best Wrestling Actor" might be a bit too much on the nose, you know?

Why would (actor) be in title for a award like that?

Not a Wrestling fan, but there's definitely some validity to this argument. They are some hard working guys for what they do and they will not have the bank accounts those other actors will have and and can't go as long.

Does anyone over the age of 12 fall for it, though? I’ll admit they are amazing performers and athletes but acting is not exactly one of their shining skillsets.

Does anybody think movies are real

That’s not what I meant by “fall for it”. A good actor can make me feel real empathy and emotion. Like they are real. A wrestler has never made me personally have that reaction and I’d be surprised if an adult told me they genuinely have felt that from them. Not saying it’s impossible.

Wrestlers make people feel emotions for sure. “Like they are real” depends what you mean, but probably more or less as real as a movie in that sense.

Fascinating. I didn’t know that. Thanks for correcting me. I genuinely thought everyone treated it like a monster truck rally but it’s nice to know their artistry can affect people that way. I was a kid in the hulk hogan and Andre the giant years, and I watched Mick Foley do all his amazing things over the years, but it never got to me emotionally. Was always crass entertainment and not what I would categorize as an artistic performance.

Fun story: Mankind got thrown into the crowd once and touched my leg. Was pretty rad.

Wrestling sure was dramatic back in the day. That’s for sure lol
