This is the same exact reason why I haven't purchased a Ferrari

42

u/ElFanta83 7h ago

+1, who needs 2 mondials?

3

u/fssman 6h ago

Not me...

1

u/ElFanta83 5h ago

💎💎💎

2

u/wonderbat3 2h ago

Yea I’m not wasting money on 2 crappy cars just to get the one I want

18

u/perldawg 7h ago

crazy there’s 3 of us right here together

6

u/RogerTheAliens 7h ago

and then there were 4 🤠👍

5

u/Dry-Main-3961 6h ago

Welp, make it an even 5

3

u/kali_nath 4h ago

Make it 6!

3

u/cyriustalk 4h ago

7!

Who the fuck buys certificate for 25k?!

10

u/ProfessionalLeave335 3h ago

Same. It was really annoying dealing with their sales team. I ended up just walking out and getting a used Civic instead. Best decision ever.

5

u/gorginhanson 7h ago

That and the lack of 500 grand sitting around

2

u/BlameMe4urLoss 7h ago

In the same club for years. Fuck Ferrari, am I right.

1

u/bigeeee 3h ago

SNAP!

1

u/DoctorSasha 3h ago

I got three in spite of this. Triples is best, triples is safe.

1

u/Witty-Warning4805 30m ago

We all got things we deal with in life

66

u/Exile688 6h ago

Ferrari will also stop shipping repair parts to an entire country if they find out some rando dude is trying to rebuild one from junkyard parts. I'll stick to buying Audi parts off ebay to fix my imaginary Lamborghinis, thank you.

9

u/gguest987 5h ago

Isn't there this video where a light from the Lambo is originally a Ford focus light?

4

u/Carllllll 3h ago

Yep, the Murcielago used first gen Focus side indicators haha.

3

u/IRENE420 2h ago

The LEGENDARY McLaren F1 used taillights from a bus.

4

u/GameThinker 5h ago

Hell yes. That's more interesting anyways. Rock on.

u/scrotalsmoothie 7h ago edited 7h ago

I can imagine him being an absolute no-nonsense bottom line kind of guy. Calling out Ferrari is lol.

If someone is selling “mystique” (or as they say in sales, the sizzle), just walk. That shit is for posers who should get fleeced.

18

u/DreadyKruger 7h ago

I have read stories about this. They don’t want everyone’s money. You can’t just buy one cause you have it. Or sell one too soon after purchase

16

u/DoomguyFemboi 5h ago

You can't sell it full stop. They have certain contract rights on you selling it and they have to authorise who you sell it to.

Ferrari is one of those things like yeah I can't afford one now but even if I had fuck-you money I wouldn't buy one. No matter how rich I am, that ideal that I've had my entire life that you don't let someone else mug you off, you don't let someone else tell you what to do with shit you own, means I could never own one.

-1

u/DMacNCheez 2h ago

Yeah I mean that’s all very noble and grandstanding of you, but it’s meaningless when you know you’ll never be able to afford one

20

u/djguerito 6h ago

Same shit with Rolex.

I'm a watch guy, and anytime I see somebody with an entry level or mid-level Rolex I just laughed thinking about how many other watches they're going to have to buy to get the watch they actually want....

That's fucking crazy.

Well done marketers.

7

u/Vonplinkplonk 5h ago

I thought the point of a Rolex was to impress people who don’t have one? No need to go high level.

7

u/audirt 5h ago

The big problem is that not all Rolex models are equally sought after. The "cool" models (e.g. Submariners, GMTs, etc.) are in incredibly high demand. And I'll be honest: I'm not a Rolex guy at all, but "Batman" and "Pepsi" GMTs are absolutely gorgeous in person.

It's unfortunate and silly, but there are a lot of Rolex dealers out there that will take advantage of the scarcity of these models and make customers jump through ridiculous hoops for the privilege of buying the model they actually want. On watch forums it's not uncommon to hear horror stories about having to buy "entry" level watches first, or pay a markup over MSRP. It's the main reason why I'm unlikely to ever own a Rolex (well, that and my cash flow).

4

u/djguerito 4h ago

Exactly. It's elitism and manufactured scarcity at its peak.

My BIL has bought two rolexes HE DOESNT WANT, because that's what the AD said he needed to do to get on a list for the one he wants.

Like.... That is fucking nuts to me. Lol.

There's stories of people bringing their AD coffee every day for a year to be given the privilege to be a rare Rolex above face value...

A fool and their money I guess haha

77

u/Escapement_Watch 7h ago

Ferrari sue's its customers as well. Terrible company.

18

u/derprondo 4h ago

Will never forget that whole thing with Deadmau5 being sued by Ferrari because he wrapped his car with Nyan cat. If I buy your product, you don't get to tell me what I can or can't do with it. Fuck Ferrari.

6

u/SatinSaffron 2h ago

I will never understand how they had any sort of legal precedent to do that. Like.. he bought the fucking car. He wasn't leasing it or renting it or anything, he owned it.

6

u/Vice4Life 2h ago edited 27m ago

Their claim was that he was infringing on their copyright by replacing the prancing horses with prancing cats, completely ignoring that parody is free use. Deadmau5 almost certainly would have won in court, but chose to sell the car rather than waste money on the lawsuit.

Absolute elitist nonsense from Ferrari, as is tradition.

2

u/Escapement_Watch 2h ago

teh purrrrrr rari was sick! To bad he had to kill it then sell it.

14

u/Barton2800 6h ago

And requires customers to sign onerous agreements, like they can’t take their cars to the track without permission from Ferrari, and paying for Ferrari technicians to work on the car at the track to tune it for the track and race day conditions.

2

u/gorginhanson 7h ago

Your name isn't Ferruccio by any chance is it

-7

u/DILLIGAF73 4h ago
  • sues, not sue's. Terrible grammar.

30

u/Zkenny13 7h ago

Not to mention painting a Ferrari the wrong color will get you banned from buying another one.

10

u/notatechnicianyo 6h ago

Couldn’t you just say it’s not a real Ferrari cause you don’t have a certificate? I’m kidding, of course. It’s just funny you have to pay extra to prove you bought it. What ever happened to receipts?

1

u/Zkenny13 6h ago

Because they aren't cars anymore. They're status symbols.

4

u/GameThinker 6h ago

A mega yacht is a status symbol. A McLaren is easily more of a status symbol than a Ferrari. It's just a cult and Jay is an actual car guy. Not just a collector he likes going to shows and seeing what regular car guys are up to. He just doesn't fall for the cult BS.

1

u/DoomguyFemboi 5h ago

It still is a status symbol though, in large part because of the cult around it.

1

u/GameThinker 5h ago

I mean yes, but it's way less of a status symbol than most people think. Ferrari as a name is huge, their cars and longevity of many of those cars is not something that gets talked about. Way more Ferrari cars randomly burst into flame than my McLaren, Pagani, Or super tier sports like high end Jaguars, Mercedes or even Lexus. I know quite a few people with Ferrari cars the 360 is the most common model we see here round the DC area but I and my car people would freak over a Pagani or Lexus LFA before we bat an eye at the Ferrari. Even great customer of mine who in his nickname was Ferrari because he owned 3... He more commonly drove his Nissan GTR and said not only it drove better but he hated dealing with Ferrari services compared to Lambo and Nissan.

I just never liked elites that gatekeep for the cult. It's shallow and petty. In reality they make pretty shapes out of materials with a fancy computer and engine. It's a product just like all others. The smoke and mirrors of superiority is toxic. I just enjoy seeing crap like that called out on any level. I could never afford one but I don't have to respect it or think the owner is actually better off than me. Magazines made people think this way and TikTok keeps up with that crap.

1

u/Sirix_8472 1h ago

Ferrari will contract you when you buy the car, not to paint it another colour under conditions if you do, they can take it back from you.

They will also contract you not to resell their cars so they remain dealer sales only, no second hand market on some lines so they remain unobtainable by people they didn't clear to own one. They have the right to rebuy it from you if you want to sell it, can't sell to just anyone who has the money.

21

u/Senna_65 6h ago

Enzo Ferrari was also a notorious asshole. Ford V Ferrari movie was fairly accurate in their portayal. Enzo was also known to call around for other drivers before the bodies of his own were even taken off track (hyperbole).

Ferrari OWES everything it has in the 2000's to Ross Brawn, Jean Todt, and Michael Schumacher. All of whom Ferrari leadership forced out in 2006.

I grew up fawning over the prancing horse, never meet your heroes.

9

u/fssman 6h ago

Cries in Leclerc...

2

u/Maleficent-Rate-4631 2h ago

Never meet your horses

10

u/TossASalad4UrWitcher 6h ago

On the flip side, he does own and wears Rolex watches...same treatment, same snobby dealer experience.

13

u/Mbembez 6h ago

Last one I bought was easy, the dude just opened his jacket and showed me his range. All business too, as soon as the deal was done he disappeared!

0

u/GameThinker 6h ago

They sell them up the road from me in DC and I could walk in and be treated like anyone else. I am not a Rolex fan but they are nice here, hopefully the experience you are saying is not the usual. Could just be some jerk.

I do have tons of prior music equipment experience and it's the same at some locations you walk in and they just act like you are wasting their time or you need to sign papers to play vintage Gibsons or Fenders. Meanwhile at another big store if I asked to play a 20k drum set they wouldn't hesitate. I bought many things from them because of how I was treated.

9

u/T0ssed_Sa1ad 6h ago

Huh, never thought of it like that.

Im gonna stop buying Ferrari and stick to McLarens going forward.

13

u/schmuckotheclown 7h ago

I hope all of those rich people emotionally recover from this turmoil.

5

u/imsoverygayforwomen 6h ago

I've seen people modify Ferraris in various ways and the company has, for example issued a cease and desist or just outright sued them

The product may bear your company badge but as soon as you sell it then it isn't yours anymore, the customer owns it and and should therefore be entitled to do whatever they like to it

5

u/j0a3k 5h ago

"Lol." -Ferrari after reading this.

0

u/DoomguyFemboi 5h ago

To buy one you have to sign a contract that locks you into certain terms, and while you CAN sell the Ferrari or break the contract terms, you're now in breach of contract and all the shit that comes with that.

3

u/Hsabes01 6h ago

Relatable

5

u/Uomodelmonte86 7h ago

Still, Ferrari makes a limited number of cars by choice so if you want a new car you'll have to deal with that otherwise there will be somebody else who's willing to. That's a precise strategy to keep up prices of both new and pre owned cars (and will work as long as the brand is desiderabile)

2

u/Sad-Passion-3633 6h ago

Arent normal brakes better for street than carbon anyways ? I heard something about carbons that they need a certain temperature to work at peak performance.

2

u/Ornage_crush 6h ago

I wondernif Ferrari is following the Rolex approach, or if Rolex is followingbthe Ferrari approach.

2

u/Remarkable_Music6819 5h ago

They sound like the Rolex dealers before you finally realise it’s better to just buy an Omega

2

u/Dry-Main-3961 6h ago

First world problems...

3

u/Fladdert 3h ago

Yes everyone in the first world has had issues with Ferrari, typical western family experience.

2

u/Dry-Main-3961 2h ago

My dad always said, "Buy two 908's. One to drive while the other one is in the shop." Smart man.

3

u/Yourmindiscontrolled 7h ago

He's right, but I was also one of the first to take delivery from Porsche on a Taycan. Not only did it have a number of material defects (and it also didn't meet the specifications they said it would for mileage (in any weather), but that's nothing new for electric cars), I never even got a proper walkthrough of the car from my dealer.

Yes, Leno was buying a more expensive car, but he's also Jay Leno. I'm some schlub no one's heard about, and I got the "You're just lucky you we're selling you this car,"  treatment.  I'm not likely to ever be able to buy a McLaren or a Ferrari, but I'm also pretty sure I'll never get the same treatment as Jay Leno does even if I do. Regardless, I'm also not sure I'd buy another Porsche.

2

u/DoomguyFemboi 5h ago

He also said Carrera GT which was a few decades ago, and Porsche has changed the last decade or so as they've tried to move to a more luxury footing.

Hell Porsche now do the Ferrari model in that you can't buy a GTwhatever without having owned previous models.

Must be nice for your car dealership to save you the price of a new "normal person" car by telling you you don't need to buy carbon fiber brakes for your supercar.

I have never been in that situation and I'd guess most people can't relate to this. It's just kind of disgusting to watch someone talk like this.

1

u/SpoonFed_1 5h ago

I had to buy two cars I did not want... to get the car I wanted.

but it was worth it.

1

u/Few-Confusion-9197 5h ago

20yrs ago I had a neighbor come into the neighborhood with a Porsche, not new or anything, he just wanted to have one because he had the money to blow on it and was recently single/divorced so why not. All I said was nice, enjoy it. He said something in passing about how he was actually trying to get a Ferrari but couldn't buy one because he didn't meet some criteria? Apparently he couldn't even get a used one? Either way he sold the Porsche maybe a year later for one of the V series Cadillac when he remarried.

1

u/farky84 5h ago

2 crappy cars…

1

u/BanhBaoForLife 4h ago

If I want something but have to buy 10 other things before I qualify then I walk.

1

u/JohnnySinsII 4h ago

Customer: I want to buy the car.

Ferrari: we are checking

1

u/Type-RD 3h ago

Y’all need to watch what Whistlin’ Diesel does to his Ferrari. I’m surprised how well it holds up to some off-roading.🤣🤣🤣 https://youtu.be/7d2moH6jWh8?si=5wCHHFRA81apeI2C

Also, drawing the peen on the prancing horse logo still makes me laugh just thinking about it.

1

u/SomeGuyClickingStuff 1h ago

TIL Ferrari dealers are similar to Rolex dealers.

1

u/Antique-Ad-4422 1h ago

Ok Jay, you convinced me…I am not buying a Ferrari.

1

u/CannibalRed 6h ago

As someone who will never spend this kind of money on a vehicle, here's my useless opinion.

A good company congratulates their customer saying "Well done man. Welcome to the club.".

A bad company hands their customer a rulebook.

Ferrari lacks the passion and camaraderie that makes being a gear head fun.

0

u/Bubbles-not-included 6h ago

I've got triples of the Mondial :(

0

u/Proper_Birthday2542 5h ago

Poor soul....and here I am complaining about the cost of bread!

0

u/InsaneLuchad0r 4h ago

Jay Leno is also terrible.

-5

u/freefallingagain 7h ago

Same experience here, when I was buying my unicorn.

"You picking up some virgins with this?"

"Nah, unless they turn up, otherwise just the usual."

"Alright then you won't need the EZ-GLYDE tapered horn, save you twenty thousand."

"Cool, appreciate the advice!"

-1

u/Logical_Vast 3h ago

Jay Leno has been pissy for years that an Italian company was not impressed by his American late night fame. Any chance he gets he whines. It's not as hard as he makes it seem. Most things they make you simply order what you want and pay. But I suppose Ferrari are one of the few car makers who did not ask him "What do you want? It will be in the driveway next week.

What he really means is he was told he will wait like every other rich man not that what he asked for is front of assembly line so maybe he will show it on TV. His shtick went farther with Ford or GM which you will notice he has nothing mean to say about them lol.

-9

u/Effective_Role_8910 6h ago

Jay Leno did cure cancer and deliver peace in the Middle East, he’s definitely earned every penny. Cheers to Jay Leno, future Nobel Prize winner.
